Me uno a la petición del recopilatorio de los Impressions. En el 2º disco hay cosas que ni idea. Esta mañana he intentado subir otro recopilatorio suyo que más o menos incluye lo del 1er disco, pero mi router debe tener demasiado calor, porque no hay manera.
También me uno a la adoración de Shuggie Otis. La primera vez que lo escuché pensé que el tío era la mezcla imposible entre Sly Stone y Terry Callier. Veo que la reedición ésta del Inspiration information incluye Strawnerry Letter 23. Poco más se puede pedir.

Ethio Stars & Tukul Band - Amharic Hits and Experimental Traditions from Ethiopia (1994)
Ethiopian popular music is in its very nature multi-national. In addition to strong Ethiopian traditional songs, other elements derive from various currents of popular music - from soul and jazz to Italian hits and Islamic vocal styles. The result is a completely original kind of contemporary Ethiopian popular music. It could be described as "Arabic soul singer plays Amharic-Italian funky jazz."
The origin of popular music in Ethiopia can be traced back to the 1920's when Haile Selassie brought over a group of Armenian orphans from Jerusalem and so formed The Bodyguard Orchestra. They brought new instruments with them, like trumpet and saxophone, and from this and other military bands a night-club scene began to emerge. In 1935, Ethiopia was invaded and though this lasted only a few years Italians stayed and formed some dance bands.
Regardless of the effect outside influences, such as American rock have had on musicians, Ethiopian popular music is still very strongly based on both sacred and secular traditions from different parts of the country. Perhaps more relevant than the question of how western music has affected Ethiopian, is how Ethiopian music might one day influence western popular music…

JACKIE MITTOO - THE KEYBOARD KING AT STUDIO ONE
Después de la desbandada de los Skatalites en 1965, su teclista toma posesión de los Studio One de Coxxone Dodd y se convierte en su teclista, arreglista y compositor fijo. Graba y compone tanto para el como para otros grupos que se han apuntado ala nueva corriente que lidera el panorama desde 1966: el rocksteady. Y Mittoo más contento que unas castañuelas porque, de esta forma, pueda dar rienda suelta a sus más recientes influencias: el soul y el incipiente funk que viene de USA y, sobre todo, New Orleans. Está empapado de Brooker T, la Stax, Motown y toda la legión de jazzman que asolan USA. Así que, libre de las ataduras rítmicas del ska, Mittoo se lanza a crear música tremendamente groove pero, eso si, sin olvidar el ritmo propio jamaicano. Y logra perlas, totales perlas y joyas, muchas de ellas presentes en este disco. Solo con "Oboe" (casi 10 minutos de maravilloso Hammond B3 suave e incansablemente rítmico, ideal para atardeceres…amaneceres...hora de comer...siestas...la vida en general, vamos) ya vale la pena la escucha, la descarga o la compra del disco. Lástima que muriese tan pronto.

Bien, bien, este hilo mola un huevo. Os dejo uno de los mejores discos Dub para un servidor de la historia. El gran Scientist, discipulo de King Tubby, que sabe mezclar la esencia del Dub jamaicano con tintes Piscodelicos. Acompañado o sin acompañar de humo porreta. El espacio que invade su musica se convierte en lugar lleno de detalles y vaciladas.

Como mola encontrar joyas a esos precios, se te pone cara de tonto.
Bueno pues dejo otra joya Dub, de este genio que conoci por 30". Aqui el Dub jamaicano no pierde su esencia pero progresa a la electronica pero muyyyy sutilmente. Con estos calores hay que relajarse.

Mi primera idea era poner un disco de reggae, pero viendo que se han puesto más, creo que cambio de tercio. Ya habrá tiempo para ir poniendo más cosas de este estilo por mi parte.
EDDIE PALMIERI - VAMONOS PA'L MONTE
Que Eddie Palmieri es un nombre capital en la devenir y desarrollo de la música latina es algo innegable. Para ello solo hay que escuchar sus obras realizadas entre 1969 y 1971 para comprobarlo. Después de desmantelar la orquesta que le dio renombre (La Perfecta), el compositor, arreglista, líder y pianista se obstino en tratar de romper esquemas, incluso los que el mismo creó con La Perfecta, dando pioridad a su labor como arreglista y director. Si en ella la primera línea la formaba la flauta y el trombón, para sus nuevas obras mantuvo el último instrumento, pero le añadió otros que no eran para nada corrientes en la música latina. la cosa empezó con Justicia (1969), luego con Superimposición (1970) y, finalmente, la cumbre llegó con este disco. En el tema que lo bautiza, Palmieri acompaña al agresivo sonido habitual del trombón con una línea principal de saxo barítono, órgano, batería completa y piano eléctrico. sin abandonar la raíz africana, Palmieri abría la puerta a un componente progresivo e, incluso, a jugar con la mesa de sonido ( sobe todo en Comparsa De Los Locos). sabe reunirse de lo mejor de la tradición (Alfredo Chocolate Armenteros a la trompeta) y lanzarse a investigar en uno de los raros momentos en que el y su hermano Charlie se enzarzan en un duelo de teclados (Charlie al órgano, Eddie al piano eléctrico). Todo esto para crear no solo música teórica, sino también para reflejar la situación política de la época (Eddie siempre ha sido un artísta comprometido), como se comprueba en Revolt / La Libertad Lógico (¡incluso mete un tambor militar…!). En fin, una grabación revolucionaria y de altísimo nivel musical.

Los Sound Stylistics son un super grupo con lo mejor de la escena Acid Jazz haciendo funk instrumental pasado de vueltas. Hay gente de James Taylor Quartet, Incognito, Galliano, Brand new heavies y también anda Snowboy por ahí.
Y hay buenas noticias, porque acaban de sacar nuevo disco. Habiéndolo escuchado una vez, tengo la sensación de que no está a la altura de su primer disco (The sound stylistics play deep funk) porque eso es difícil de igualar, pero vamos, hay varios temazos de funk instrumental a toda castaña.
