  • Lucky Dragons - Open Power [2009/Teenage Teardrops]

    @1his8zg5:

    Lucky Dragons have existed in one form or another for a fare while now and though their records are not easy to track down, these LA based loop enthusiasts have a lot to offer so you should seek them out. Or, you could invest in 'Open Power', probably their most consistent and widely available release so far. Listening to a Lucky Dragons record is kinda like sifting through a sketch book. Lots of ideas! Almost too many to appreciate in one sitting. Here are some of the basic things you need to know about Lucky Dragons; they commonly process their ideas on computers yet they sound like a free form, organic improvised duo. They love percussive loops and use them whenever possible. They have an innate ability to weave impossibly satisfying melodies. They are playful and amusing in everything they do. They share certain traits with Baltimore's Animal Collective but they are tons better YO! Side A contains two amazingly consistent tunes. 'Traveling song' and 'Open Melody' take in elements of Steve Reich and twist them into fun shapes and patterns. Both tracks are really tranquil and sound good at both 45 and 33RPM, can't say that about many records. The B-side has three slightly more out there experiments. 'Power melody' is awesome with it's unabashed use of pan pipes and flutes to create a north african style party groove. I'll stop now because I'll be at it all day but rest assured, this is an awesome record. If you got their last 7" collection and liked it a lot, then you'll more than likely be fully amazed by this. If you like Black Dice, glockenspiel Pit Er Pat, Animal Collective, Mahjongg and those new tropical drone concept records from James Ferrero then you should check this out for sure.

  • Jimi Tenor and Tony Allen-Inspiration Information 4

    Strut's Inspiration Information series moves on from the critically
    acclaimed Mulatu Astatke / The Heliocentrics collaboration with the
    fourth album in the series, a mouth-watering head to head between
    Finnish maverick Jimi Tenor and Afrobeat drumming legend, Tony
    Allen. Jimi Tenor remains a fascinating enigma in modern day music.
    Consistently one of the best and most unpredictable live artists
    around, his work since his breakthrough album "Intervision" (Warp,
    1997) to a series of Afro-based albums with his band Kabu Kabu.
    Tony Allen continues to attract new fans as one of the greatest
    drummers alive today. Celebrated as the creator of the Afrobeat
    rhythm and a lynchpin of Fela Kuti's Africa 70 band, his recent
    work has included The Good, The Bad & The Queen collaboration with
    Damon Albarn and his first album for World Circuit Records released
    earlier this year, "Secret Agent". Recorded at Lovelite Studios in
    Berlin with further sessions this year in Finland and Paris, the
    Tenor / Allen collaboration whips up a raw, heavy analogue sound
    mixing the full range of Allen's Afrobeat repertoire with TenorТs
    off-kilter brew of dark humour, tongue-in-cheek lyrics and tight,
    firing musicianship. The sessions involved key members of TenorТs
    Kabu Kabu band.

    Highly recommended. It will be issued on CD around november 2nd
    2oo9…buy it!!

  • me ha gustado bastante este disco…

    orphan - aborted by birth.

    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=G73Q2ZL4

    dúo chico-chica, bajo-batería, haciendo trash metal ruidoso y encabronado. hacen pensar en los primeros nirvana con camisetas de venom o en kurt cobain haciendo el cafre con los melvins, que viene a ser lo mismo.

    @3n8q0m4i:

    "Armed with drums and (ultra distorted) bass only, this heavy, hellbound girl-boy two-piece from Brooklyn crashes and bashes though ten trashed tracks of roughhewn rumble, making quite a crazed art-metal-noise racket. The drummer (girl, Speck Brown) pounds the skins with brutal abandon. Meanwhile the bassist (boy, Brendan Majewski) sings, in the most vicious nasty shriek he can muster, which is indeed brutal too, all the while ripping out the distorted riffage - which can get kinda catchy, on such negative creep cuts as "Love Is For The Birds". Elsewhere they lay waste to such troubling topics as "Penis Farm", "Swan Blood", and "Jane Fonda".
    Titling their album Aborted By Birth may be intended to draw comparisons to death metallers Cannibal Corpse, if only to stress their metallic bona fides, since otherwise they probably get a lot of Lightning Bolt references, due to the bass-drums duo setup. Naturally, godheadSilo, Jucifer, and Israel's Barbara would be other good comparisons.
    By the way, if you go on YouTube and look 'em up, you'll find some pretty cool, arty homemade videos for each of this album's songs!
    Released on evil white vinyl only, limited to 666 numbered copies."

  • Leonard Cohen - Live At The Isle of Wight 1970 [Columbia, 2009]

    @1w9fl5lf:

    On August 31, 1970, 35-year-old Leonard Cohen was awakened at 2 a.m. from a nap in his trailer and brought onstage to perform with his band at the third annual Isle Of Wight music festival. The audience of 600,000 was in a fiery and frenzied mood, after turning the festival into a political arena, trampling the fences, setting fire to structures and equipment – and stoked by the most incendiary performance of Jimi Hendrix’s career, less than three weeks before his death.

    As Cohen followed Hendrix’s set, onlookers (and fellow festival headliners) Joan Baez, Kris Kristofferson, Judy Collins and others stood sidestage in awe as the Canadian folksinger-songwriter-poet-novelist quietly tamed the crowd. Academy Award-winning documentary filmmaker Murray Lerner, whose footage of the 1970 festival did not begin to see release until 1995, was able to capture Cohen’s performance. Likewise, Columbia Records staff A&R producer Teo Macero, who was ostensibly there to record Miles Davis’ set, did a brilliant job of supervising Cohen’s live recording as well.

    Adding further historic provenance to this release is a newly commissioned 2,000-word liner notes essay written by veteran British rock journalist and BBC commentator Sylvie Simmons. “It was a brilliant performance,” Simmons writes, “and Lerner’s cameras captured Cohen’s commanding presence, hypnotist’s charm, and an intimacy that would seem unfeasible in such a vast, inhospitable space.” As producer Bob Johnston sums up, “It was magical, from the first moment to the last. I’ve never seen anything like it. He was just remarkable.”

    The releases represent the 77-minute concert set as performed by Cohen and his backup band: Bob Johnston (Cohen’s Nashville-based Columbia A&R staff producer), and Nashville musicians Charlie Daniels (electric bass, fiddle), Ron Cornelius (lead guitar), and Elkin ‘Bubba’ Fowler (bass, banjo). They were joined by backup singers Corlynn Hanney, Susan Musmanno, and Donna Washburn. During the course of their European tour – which Cohen only agreed to undertake if Johnston (producer of Cohen’s most recent LP, Songs From A Room) would manage him and organize the band – the group began to call themselves The Army, owing to the battles they were subjected to by audiences on the road.
