Esta tarde me he comprado este disco en el fnac y lo estoy escuchando en estos momentos y que de momento eu estou gostando muito.

Pues no lo aseguro al 100%, pero juraría que sí en los dos casos.

Sé que la barra está bien surtida y hacen cócteles, o sea que lo más probable es que hagan mojitos.

Y lo del aire acondicionado imagino que sí, porque es un sótano y yo nunca he pasado calor. Por otro lado, no es que haya ido muchas veces, pero nunca he visto el local demasiado lleno. Quicir que suele estarse cómodo.

Si fallara alguno de estos factores intentaremos compensarlo con argumenos musicales.

No effort has been spared! To document these 15 irresistible tracks and the music scene from the'70s, Samy crisscrossed the lengths of Ghana and Togo in search of the producers and artists – or their relatives. In the process he recorded a dozen interviews, scanned 90 pictures and transferred 120 master tapes. All the evidence can be seen in the 44-page full colour booklet accompanying these 75 minutes of heavy West African sounds. Afro-Beat Airways showcases an amazing diversity of local rhythms spiced with Afro-American funk, soul and jazz.

Bonitos hits y discazales a porrillo y sin fin los que el Sr. Mayfield (un placer saludarlo, at last y, cómo no, también hacer lo mismo con Pulpo ) y el Dr. Soul Dust tuvieron a bien deleitar estos oídos. No paramos de mover el culo, lo que es todo un mérito teniendo en cuenta el calor reinante (no en la sala, buena temperatura…por cierto, al bueno de Terenci Moix le hubiera hecho ilusión poder vivir tanto jolgorio enfrente de su casa) sino en general. Me gustó mucho volver a oír “Lady Day & John Coltrane” de Scott Heron y algunas cosillas más que, diantres, no conocía. Esto del funk & soul es muy grande y todavía me queda terreno por conocer. El mojito bien, gracias.

Hay discos que con solo oírlos una vez, caes. Me pasó hace unos días con el de calypso y desde ayer mismo me ha vuelto a ocurrir con:

DARKER THAN BLUE: SOUL FROM JAMDOWN 1973-1980 es otro de estos bonitos discos que no pueden dejar de tener puesto en su reproductor digital durante este veranito. Editado ya hace años por el sello Blood And Fire (calidad, oigan), es una recopilación de temas de soul & funk americanos hechos por jamaicanos. Hay desde aires groovy, funk, early reggae, roscksteady y demás embrujos jamaicanos al uso. Con algunas piezas se van a deshacer del gustito, palabrita del niño Jesusito.

CALYPSO AT DIRTY JIM'S es un documental sobre los grandes del género que rodó Pascale Obolo en el 2005 para inmortalizar a los grandes trovadores de Trinidad Y Tobago que se cobijan bajo el techo del Dirty Jim’s Club de Port Of Spain. Aquí si encontramos a varios pesos pesados, a nombres que ya forman parte de la historia del calypso y, naturalmente, de la música antillana, y cantando canciones que también forman parte de esa tradición, algunas de ellas muy populares en países occidentales y que, quizás, algunos no conocían su origen antillano. Aquí encontramos, entre otras, una versión del “Jean And Dinah”, creación de Mighty Sparrow, a cargo de Lord Superior. El tema es un alegato anti americano y que celebraba el abandono de las tropas norteamericanas de Port Of Spain:

No more Yankees in Trinidad

In for a penny, and in for a pound

Algunos pueden llegar a pensar que se trata de un nuevo Buena Vista Social Club y no andan del todo errados, la diferencia es que, al menos a nivel hispano, no nos hemos enterado mucho de ello y, por ese motivo, la presencia en nuestro suelo de artistas de calypso o de otras islas antillanas es nula.

Bien, Maturity Records editó en el mismo año 2005 un disco recogiendo el documental en DVD y también las partes musicales de ese documental, que es lo que se puede descargar en el enlace del final. Canela fina, pero que muy fina.
