Instead of going down the conventional route of a mixtape, Hodgy Beats and Left Brain went on a tear earlier this month, releasing seven tracks in as many days as part of their "MellowHype Week." With the freebies out of the way, the Odd Future duo avert their attention to their upcoming sophomore LP, Numbers, by revealing an updated tracklist. The only difference to the previous list is that the guest features are included. To probable approval, fellow Wolf Gang goons Frank Ocean, Earl Sweatshirt and Mike G will all appear. The album hits stores Oct. 9.

Like Odd Future, North Oakland rap duo Main Attrakionz gained fame by self-releasing dozens of internet mixtapes between 2010 and 2011 (including Blackberry Ku$h, Two Man Horror Film, Chandelier, Rappers Aint S**t Without a Producer, 808s & Dark Grapes, and 808s & Dark Grapes II.) The two rappers involved, MondreM.A.N and Squadda B., started recording together in junior high. By the time they were 19 year olds, they joined up with a talented collective of left-field Bay Area rap acts and electronic producers called Green Ova. There, Main Attrakionz carved out their own niche, rapping over hypnotic beats with chillwave atmospherics. Blogs quickly picked up on the self-proclaimed “best duo ever” and some even went so far as to hype them as pioneers of a new underground movement called “Cloud Rap.”

A mi muy fuerte, me ha encantado el disco de los Main y la Mixtape de Farrar y Blaze igual o más, aunque me parece algo menos madura, dentro del "HipsterHop" para mi sin duda estan por encima del resto.

Pues yo todavía no le he encontrado el punto al de Main Attrakionz. Me ha pillado un poco desprevenido y todavía no sé cómo tomármelo. Tampoco he tenido mucho tiempo.

Si gusta más se le puede llamar Cloud Rap o yo que sé, es una forma de decirlo para que todos me entendaís y veo que ha sido así, supongo que da igual si existe o no, es solo una forma de hablar para que se entienda a que tipo y a que artistas me refiero dentro del género.

Yo cuando dije una vez lo de hipster hop me refería más al colectivo de nuevos artistas que han sido apadrinados por Pitchfork y la modernez bloguera (hace diez años los artistas underground del género raramente salían en esas publicaciones, claro que tampoco había internet como ahora y blablabla, supongo). Lo que sí que es verdad es que esta nueva hornada partió, en gran parte, de un sonido que podemos definir como cloudrap, con muchas instrus ambient y tal. Pero no tiene porque prolongarse durante muchos años o ser el sonido definitorio del futuro de algunos artistas y los media pueden seguir dándoles bombo. El fénomeno no es sólo un tema de etiquetaje puntual, hay que admitir que más allá del sonido o de la estética han aportado un cambio en el discurso.

hablando de hipster hop, no se si sabíais que el swag por fin ha llegado a las islas. la crew londinense piff gang emula a sus hermanos americanos dejando el grime de lado y apuntándose a la última moda yanki. cloud smoke lo llaman, y la verdad es que lo han clavado porque no hacen ni hablan de otra cosa. se ve que a$ap rocky es bastante fan y les invitó a subir al escenario en su última visita a camden town. action bronson y la peñita de world’s fair también muestran simpatía por la chavalería. lástima que viendo sus videos no den más que ganas de darles un par de collejas a cada uno para quitarles las tonterías pero si uno se ciñe a los temicas de su tercera mixtapa lo cierto es que lo petan bastante.

mientras tanto al otro lado del atlántico, sigue la lucha por hacerse con el control de new york city. si a$ap rocky se ha hecho con harlem y joey bada$$ se ha quedado con brooklyn, remy banks parece que va a acabar siendo el rey de queens. influenciado por el legendario nas, es 1/3 parte del grupo children of the night -cotn para los amigos- junto a nasty nigel y lansky jones (llamados a ser los nuevos a tribe called quest) y 1/6 del colectivo world's fair junto a cody b.ware, prince samo y jeff donna. pajillas.
