On their debut full-length, Western Massachusetts’ Speedy Ortiz manages a bit of magic by conjuring the spirits of classic American indie rock, while twisting those ghosts into new shapes. It’s easy to hear the influences of Helium, Jawbox, and Chavez on this album, as well as nods to their contemporaries including Grass is Green, Pile, and Roomrunner. Sweet vocal harmonies run up against gnarly
distortion, aided by basic, chunky bass parts and heavy, fill-laden drums.The album was recorded in a few days in November at Justin Pizzoferrato’s (Dinosaur Jr., Chelsea Light Moving) studio, Sonelab, a huge space in an old factory in Easthampton, Mass. The sessions went from very early in the day until very late at night, with the band taking its time to experiment. Pizzoferrato’s collection of old distortion pedals were utilized on both the record’s guitars and vocals.
The theme of the occult and the supernatural runs deep through Major Arcana, inspired by singer-guitarist Sadie Dupuis’ reading on black magic. Dupuis’ sometimes knotty and abstract lyrics bring to mind fellow wordsmith Stephen Malkmus, while referencing horror film tropes, chemistry, and neuroscience. Major Arcana’s literal translation is “major mysteries,” a phrase from tarot cards. “I don’t write in a narrative way and am more concerned with use of language than meaning,” Dupuis says, “so I like the open-endedness of the title and the way it invites interpretation.”

Scott and Rivers is the collaboration between Scott Murphy, of Chicago pop-punkers Alister, and Rivers Cuomo, of the iconic Weezer. For no better reason than they can, the duo recorded a full-length LP sung almost entirely in Japanese. Over the course of their debut self-titled’s 12 tracks, the duo prove that truly boss power-pop transcends any language barrier.
While some folks might be turned off by the whole “I don’t speak Japanese” aspect, the pair transcend such frivolous notions with their varied musical chops. Amid an album of bombast, the proggy piano drone and massive harmonies make “Break Free” an arena-rock anthem. “Even Far Away” busts out a cheesy synth line, which helps make their rocking a little more delicate and introspective.
And the handclap drums and muted guitar of “Burst” are like a Hall and Oates ballad, which suits Scott and Rivers just splendidly.
It’s their expressive vocals throughout that keep this from being more of a gimmick. On “Two People and You”, Cuomo’s voice reaches brand-new levels of nerdy romanticism, sounding as fresh and endearing as he has in years. And speaking of nostalgia, “Homely Girl” is ripe with youthful exuberance, and could have been a Blue Album outtake. But the real joy is the pair’s overall interplay, so perfectly matched yet individually nuanced.
The whole language issue is a blessing, as it leaves space for listeners to come to their own emotional conclusions. Whether it’s finding reasoning for why Cuomo is extra lonesome on “Close The Morning”, or ignoring the words of “Freakin’ Love My Life’” and just getting down to that chirpy synth. Cheese aside, this record is best heard with your heart and not with your head. -

Es que el rollo ese de "eh, es que yo soy de UK" da un poco de penica, de verdad.
Tío, nada que ver, no es mi estilo. Lo que pasa es que vivir aquí significa exponerte a muchas cosas
que son distintas a las de allí, no entro en si mejores o peores sino solo distintas.
Más si cabe si haces casi dos horas diarias de coche y escuchas la radio a menudo para
practicar el inglés. Entendiendo eso podrás convenir que los inputs a AlunaGeorge, Jessie Wares, los jodidos MAMford & Sons,
Biffy Clyros y compañía son constantes, tan constantes como los inputs que puedes recibir tú de Bisbales, Bustamantes, o la madre
que los parió a todos. A esta gente le encanta hacer Hypes, y no puedes ni imaginarte lo pesados que pueden llegar a ser.
Si no he escuchado el single de esta gente 8000 veces en televisión y radio no lo he visto ninguna.

Creo que es interesante y que siempre hay cosas en el catálogo que no encontramos o no conocemos. -

En el sello BCore (Barcelona Indie Label) han abierto su bandcamp y ahora podemos pagar lo que queramos por las descargas de sus discos.
Creo que es interesante y que siempre hay cosas en el catálogo que no encontramos o no conocemos.Además eliminaron los gastos de envío si compras alguna referencia editada por ellos.

Kyuss originally disbanded in October 1995. In November 2010, three of the original Kyuss members (John Garcia, Brant Bjork and Nick Oliveri) announced that they would reform for a tour under the name Kyuss Lives!, playing the songs of Kyuss with Bruno Fevery replacing the absent Josh Homme. Despite initially approving of the reunion, Josh Homme along with other former member Scott Reeder filed a lawsuit against Kyuss Lives! for trademark infringement. Kyuss Lives! died when the courts ruled in Homme's favour and the band elected to change their name to Vista Chino.
