Bubble Dub was mixed live to tape in one take by Chasteen. The dubs were made the classic way, improvising in the moment, twisting knobs, pushing faders, reshaping a song with echo, reverb, space and time. Chasteen says, “Dub is not just a contest to create the heaviest ever bassline, but a subtle carving away at a piece of music. The dubs on this record also keep one foot in the dancehall, where dub where was born and raised."

Stones Throw has teamed with Los Angeles's Dub Club for this collection. Foundation Come Again is 20 new recordings by Jamaican sound system legends Josey Wales, Lone Ranger, Dillinger, Tippa Lee, Prince Jazzbo, Big Youth, Trinity and several others. These new tracks are recorded and produced by Tippa Lee and Tom Chasteen in Jamaica and Los Angeles.

Higher brings together the master of modern boogie, Dam-Funk (aka Damon Riddick), with a veteran of the soul-funk-disco hey-day, former Slave singer Steve Arrington. The album, released on August 6 via Stones Throw Records, finds Riddick on the tracks and Arrington on the vocals and lyrics. If Arrington’s name doesn’t sound familiar, you’ve likely heard his work, as he’s been sampled on tracks from hip-hop’s elite, including Jay-Z, A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Snoop Dogg, N.W.A. and many others. His music has had a massive influence on music from G-funk era hip-hop to house, so it makes sense that vocoder madman Dam Funk would approach Arrington to collaborate on an album. Though he left the music industry in 1990, the singer is dedicated to this new project, hard at work on practising with a full band for an upcoming tour.

De todas formas, yo venía a decirles que la gente del sello Analog Afrika ya tienen una preciosa web en bandcamp en donde se pueden escuchar sus discos y comprarlos fácilmente. Yo estoy haciendo lo propio ahora mismo con su último recopilatorio de música angoleña.

Desde luego. La verdad es que me flipa el sello, el cariño que ponen en los diseños, los textos y la música, pero creo que el bueno de Sammy está un poco en la parra. No sé, a lo mejor tiene su explicación, pero para ser una descarga el precio es muy elevado. Por cierto, el nuevo de Afrobeat Airwaves está muy bien.
