Interesante entrevista con Alpheus, que es un mendalerenda que hace rocksteady, reggae, ska y que por lo visto ha grabado su último disco con el productor Roberto Sánchez en Santander y lo van publicar con Liquidator (sello del que deberíamos estar orgullosos todos los madrileños).

La verdad es que me parece muy bien el "boom" mediático que está teniendo Luaka Bop, William Onyeabor y por extensión la música africana así en general. Todo lo que sirva para abrir un poco las mentes de la gente, bienvenido sea.

Here in the Catalan region of Spain, Gypsies primarily known as the creators of Flamenco, came up with a fascinating hybrid style – Gipsy Rhumba – which blended together Latin and Rhumba music of Cuba and the Caribbean together with their own Flamenco as well as the emerging Rock and Roll from America.

BAND and SPECIAL GUESTS (US) is an explosive celebration of the cult figure William Onyeabor where members of Hot Chip, LCD Soundsystem and The Rapture are part of the bash. The Africanøs hot sound was originallt recorded and released between 1977 and 1985. The artist himself lives far away from the spotlight, but is currently being hailed as a sort of African relative of Giorgio Moroder.
THE MASTER MUSICIANS OF JAJOUKA led by BACHIR ATTAR (MA) play the same day as The Rolling Stones. This is no coincidence. Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones did recordings of the healer orchestra back in 1968, and they were released after his death in 1971. This made him one of the first to introduce The Master Musicians of Jajouka – and world music in general – to the Western world. Sir Mick Jagger is also a proclaimed fan of the Moroccans. For more than 40 years the master musicians have stood out as one of the pinnacles of Islamic music with their trance-inducing mixture of Arabian oboe, chanting, lute, pan flute and percussion.
HUGO MENDEZ (SOFRITO) (UK) is one of the Sofrito DJ collective's most used members. He vigourously tours international festivals and clubs with his mixture of African booty shake, disco, mambo, funk and cumbia.

Hugo Mendez es muy crack, puedes encontrar sesiones en la página de Sofrito. Tira mucho para el latin, Colombia y demás, muchas veces pasando por artistas del oeste africano.
Lo del Atomic Bomb (supongo que sabes de qué va) se estrenó el otro día en el RBMA de NYC. Hace muy buena pinta y dependerá de los músicos que lleven.

FUMAÇA PRETA’s hard hitting, free-wheeling debut LP brings together elements of tropicalia, psychedelic rock, fuzz funk, musique concrete, acid house, radiophonic electronics, hair metal, voodoo and African, Brazilian and Latin rhythms. Beaming down from another planet and sonically stretching across decades, ‘FUMAÇA PRETA’ will be released on Soundway Records on 15th September.
FUMAÇA PRETA (pronounced Foomassa Pretta – meaning Black Smoke) started as a studio experiment when Alex Figueira, a Portuguese-Venezuelan producer and percussionist, invited some old friends to join him in the tiny analogue studio he built on the back of his house in Amsterdam.
After producing 2 critically acclaimed 45s, Fumaça Preta continued to work in the Barracão Sound Laboratory, swiftly producing their debut album. All musical boundaries collapsed during recording as the band drew upon their vast array of varied influences.
Live, FUMAÇA PRETA becomes a quintet that swerves in and out of endless musical avenues but never loses the rock solid heavy psychedelic groove that drives them.
