Acabo de ver Cannibal Girls (Canada) 1973. Peli relacionada con Cronenberg por el director que produjo las primeras de Cronenberg.
Le tenía muchas ganas y me ha gustado.
La frase "no nos gustan los estraños y aun menos los hippies y freaks" lo dice todo.
De las mejores y más míticas serie Zs.

Para amantes de los documentales, la física y el grupo Eels. Difícil que coincidan las tres cosas, pero si lo hacen es vuestro día de suerte.
Resulta que el padre del lider de Eels inventó una teoría revolucionaria en el mundo de la física con solo 24 años, se rieron de él y abandono la ciencia. Unas décadas después se considera un descubrimiento importantísimo. Al morir, su hijo hizo este documental para la BBC.

_Shortly after my father died the phone started ringing. My father was Hugh Everett III. When he was 24 he wrote a ground-breaking thesis about physics most commonly known as "the many worlds theory". It challenged the accepted notion of how the world works in such a huge way, stating that there were actually countless versions of ourselves splitting off and going through as many different scenarios as you could imagine, and the physics powers that be (Albert Einstein, Niels Bohr) were having none of this. They weren't about to let a 24-year-old knock their faces off the Mount Rushmore of physics. Getting no encouragement, my father gave up on quantum physics.
It's now considered to be one of the greatest tragedies in physics that my father wasn't taken seriously. He was so ahead of his time that there weren't even ways to prove his theory mathematically, but now, 50 years later, there are. And it checks out quite well.
I knew this day was coming ever since the phone started ringing in 1982. It was always some "physics groupie" asking for my mother so they could grill her for information about my father. And, as time went on and technology caught up with him, the interest kept mounting.
I'm a singer and songwriter in a rock band called Eels. I never knew much about physics and my father was a complete mystery to me, even though I lived in the same house with him for 18 or 19 years. He rarely spoke. He was an ever-present lump of flesh sitting at the dining room table every night writing out crazy calculations on a pad of paper. That's about all I saw of him.
When the BBC asked if I was interested in making a film, I jumped at the chance. I have tended to deal with my family by making them into little art projects. I made an album in 1998 called Electro-shock Blues that dealt extensively with my sister's and mother's deaths. While my sister's suicide note did indeed contain a passage about going off to meet our father in a parallel universe, I hadn't made anything that dealt with my father the way I had dealt with the rest of my family, and this was the way I liked to do it: make something that is therapeutic for me personally that, hopefully, can offer something for the rest of the world.
The idea made me both excited and uncomfortable. And the uncomfortable part was what made me know it was something I'd have to do. I didn't like the idea of opening up that world of pain and going back to Virginia and Washington DC, places where I can smell the dread in the air because of all the painful memories. But to get the chance to hang out with my father's college roommates, who are all still alive, friends and coworkers, was too interesting for me not to go through with. I knew I was going to learn a lot about both physics and my father. And I did.
The first few days of shooting were awkward and I felt pretty uptight. Then one day while I was being interviewed on camera about some painful experience, I heard Louise [Lockwood], the director, softly click her mouth and whisper, "Aw, E…" Suddenly I thought: "These people actually care about me." I then relaxed and probably started saying all sorts of things I would have been too guarded about before.
I was struck by what a tragedy my father's life was. He has contributed something huge to the world, but for him it was painful. How would you like to come up with something so mind-blowing about how the world works, confident that you knew it was true, but have no one support your view? It must have been the loneliest life, being the smartest guy in the room, just having to shut up and keep your thoughts to yourself while the regular chimps all chat away. I was determined to help to give him the day in the sun he never got when he was alive.
I spent a week at Princeton learning about physics and hanging out with my father's old friends. I did not inherit my father's gift for mathematics, and can barely calculate the tip after dinner, so it was a real challenge for me to be standing in front of blackboards learning about quantum physics. But I came to have a pretty good understanding of my father's theory. In Virginia I met some of my father's coworkers and even went inside the Pentagon (who knew security was so lax?).
It was a very difficult process for me, but when it was over I felt really glad that I had done it. It's not easy going back to a place you really don't want to go back to and opening boxes of memories. Particularly with a film crew following you, trying to make you cry ("How does that make you feel, E?"). I'd be really glad if I had a son do something like this for me some day, so I'd like to think that my dad is smiling down from some parallel universe and saying, "thanks"._

Up Beat Discos nos informa que el próximo Viernes 4 de Enero tendrá lugar el estreno en las pantallas españolas del filme dirigido por Shane Meadows: "This Is England", un largometraje que trata la vida de un jovencito de doce años que conoce a un conjunto de skinheads con los que traba amistad allá por la década de los ochenta en Nottinghamshire y que le conducirán por una espiral peligrosa y trufada de adversidades.
La banda sonora es singularmente importante para los fanáticos del reggae, puesto que incluye piezas de The Upsetters, Al Barry & The Cimarons, Toots & The Maytals o The Specials, entre otros.

La estrenaron hace diez días en el festival de cine de Gijón y anda rulando por la mula hace unos 6 meses aproximadamente. Ya que hablas de fanáticos del reggae, tb. en el festival de cine de Gijón he visto un documental titulado " Made in Jamaica" que hace un amplio repaso al panorama actual de la isla. Desde clásicos como third World o Bunny Wailer hasta el dance-hall más zapatillero. Muy interesante.
Tb estrenaron la película de Julian Temple sobre Joe Strummer y es sólo para fans(entre los que me cuento), porque narra linealmente desde su nacimiento hasta su muerte. Puede llegar a aburrir. Desde luego no tiene el análisis del contexto que sí poseía " The Filth & the Fury", la anterior de Temple. Sobre los Sex Pistols.
Por lo demás, este año la calidad de las películas a concurso flojeó un poco, comparado con años anteriores.Y aprovechando el viaje a barcelona para el PC, fui a ver "Persépolis" en VOSE ( En Asturias no tenemos de eso) y me gustó mucho. Se hace más dura que el cómic, pero merece mucho la pena ( pido disculpas si ya lo habíais comentado).

Bonito, instructivo y muy recomendado documental para todo estudiante de económicas, empresariales o todo el que quiera dar un pelotazo de mil pares de narices…aunque a lo peor tiene que pasarse una temporada en la jaula. Pero seguro que cuando salga tendrá a su disposición unos cuantos kilos que le estarán esperando en cualquier paraiso fical perdido en esas islas de dios y se pasará el resto de sus días loando el sistema liberal que tan buenos resultados nos da, gracias al santísimo.
Como no podría ser de otra forma, la trama es tan compleja que a los ignorantes en todo este mundillo se nos hace una auténtica madeja el seguir los distintos caminos de la estafa planeada por estos tipos, pero no por ello el documental tiene una brillantez tan evidente que hace que uno no tenga 23 masters en economía para darse cuenta del asunto...aunque creo que tener 15 ayuda bastante.
Y lo bueno es que, aunque trata de algo muy directamente relacionado con el gobierno Bush, no es para nada un alegato tipo Moore.
¿Los de Sinnamon los tendrán en un pedestal?
Recomendado verla en castellano, porque si no...

Imaginen un desierto. El de los Tártaros, allá en medio, una fortaleza, una frontera. Una compañía del ejercito austro-húngaro en servicio, esperando, viendo al enemigo de vez en cuando, difuso y por las noches. Una micro-sociedad de soldados defendiendo no se sabe muy bien que. Una película mansa, de una calma paisajística que me remite al Aguirre de Herzog. Belleza y drama. Desierto y soledad. il deserto di Tartari de Valerio Zulini

Falso documental protagonizado por Herzog (haciendo de él mismo) acerca del rodaje de un documental sobre el monstruo del lago Ness. Muy divertido.

Sí, la vi este verano… muy divertida, en efecto. Está dirigido por otro tipo, pero vamos, que al fin y al cabo es un proyecto Herzog 100% (producido por él) para resarcir su afán de protagonismo y divertimento. Otra más incluible en su línea reciente a la que me refería, de obsesiones, antihéroes, aventuras imposibles, obstáculos naturales e imágenes impagables.

Tomo nota, aunque no sé si me gusta el último Herzog, porque de sus pelis recientes sólo he visto el fragmento de Ten Minutes Older, creo. Pero hace poco volví a ver Aguirre, y sigue siendo igual de impresionante 35 años después, que se dice pronto…

Bueno, su fragmento en Ten Minutes Older también es representativo, al menos en cuanto al carácter antropológico de sus últimas obras. Aunque hay mejores que la de The White Diamond… no has visto Grizzly Man?
De todas formas si te tira más la época Aguirre, mis favoritas son El enigma de Gaspar Hauser y Stroszek, probablemente... aunque de Werner, como del cerdo, me gustan hasta los andares

Las primeras sí las vi casi todas, pero la que recuerdo mejor es Aguirre, supongo que por lo espectacular y porque me interesa mucho la conquista de América.

Venga, regalo anticipado de Navidad:
Se trata de un dvdrip de los buenos, nada de dvdscreener cutre con letreros cada 2m o mala calidad. Un dvdrip genuino y comprimido a alta calidad. Aun no he tenido tiempo de verla pero pinta cojonuda. Supongo que aquí no la estrenarán hasta marzo para aprovecharse de los Oscars.

Ya lo vi ayer, pero no quise decir nada porque hago mala sangre hablando de los putos goya, y porque aún vais a creer que Rosales me paga comisión o algo.
Pues sí, sólo ver que Las 13 rosas tiene unas 14 candidaturas ya es para ponerles una bomba. Ves ahi La Soledad, en medio de Garci, Orfanato, Mataharis y demás mediocridades, y sabes perfectamente que la van a ignorar. Encima está a mejor película y director, que merece ambos de calle. Eso sí, los actorazos de la peli, probablemente las mejores interpretaciones que he visto en años en cine español, totalmente ignorados, supongo que no pertenecen al "club". Ganarán la jodida Blanca Portillo y el mamón de Tristan Ulloa… En fin, si total, nunca ha merecido la pena hablar de los Goya aquí. Encima sacan de "la gala" la entrega del premio a mejor corto, para cerrarles aún más el ghetto, y el de mejor peli europea lo suprimen ("para aligerar la gala"; en realidad, porque nadie ha ido jamás a recogerlo). Todo triste y patético.Por otro lado, buenas nuevas de mi querido Festival Punto de Vista: retrospectiva a Ermanno Olmi con publicación; ciclo sobre el "silencio cinematográfico" con Sharunas Bartas, Bela Tarr, Loznitsa, Navasaitis, y otros que desconozco; retrospectiva y masterclass de Nicolas Philibert, nuevas secciones...
