a mí tampoco me va el disco. está asomando la patita por debajo de la puerta de lo comercial. lo veo de lo más inflado e inofensivo. la portada resultó ser una advertencia, ya ves… -'¿Confirma que desea quitar la carpeta 'M83' y todo su contenido?' -Sí.

bardo pond - batholith LP (Three Lobed, 2008)**@1obl6qdz:
released early march 2008. batholith is a collection of six tracks that are near and dear to bardo pond but, for some reason or another, have never previously been released. that one-sentence description might lead one to think that these tracks are "outtakes" or cutting-room floor type material - neither conclusion could be further from the truth. the tracks included on batholith range from previous live staples ("a tune," one made 'famous' by opening bardo's set at terrastock II in san francisco as joined by roy montgomery [and a recording of which was featured on the KFJC compilation live from the devil's triangle, volume 2]) to tracks the band recorded in john peel sessions ("slip away", also available here as a downloadable .mp3 preview). collected as a whole, these tracks form a fluid and cohesive album. batholith is not just an exciting moment for long time bardo pond fans, but a great jumping on point for folks who are relatively new to their craft.
as per the three lobed standard, batholith is pressed on 180g RTI vinyl. it is housed within heavy "old-style" one-pocket stoughton gatefold jackets bearing new artwork by john gibbons and isobel sollenberger. the record is from an edition of 1049 copies and, and as an added convenience for our vinyl friends, will come packaged with a glass-mastered CD (not CD-R) of the material present on the wax. pre-ordered copies were accompanied by a bonus CD (TLR-044) of previously unreleased bardo pond material.

In the nearly three-year gap between their debut album, Noumena, and this follow-up, The Drift have toured extensively throughout North America and Japan. All that tripping did wonders for their songwriting process, inspiring an efficiency with their structures while maintaining the intoxicating song lengths they are known for. Though the music on Memory Drawings is familiar, there is a depth to both the performance and production that feels new all over again. Recorded directly to analog tape with longtime producer Jay Pellicci at Tiny Telephone in San Francisco, the mix is used as another instrument to help shape each song, channeling the mythos of late 60s jazz and late 70s dub classics. As The Drift have narrowed their focus, they have expanded their influences. Nowhere is this more obvious than "Uncanny Valley," with its shades of Afro-beat and disco-soul; or the dramatic, deserted ballad "Lands End." With Memory Drawings, they have truly found their groove - and the deeper they dig, the more curious we become.

Akron, Detroit, Seattle, Boston, Washington DC, Chappell Hill, Memphis, Dallas, the country kept turning out wayward visionaries, grounded in rock 'n' roll but telling singular stories. In the 21st century, media-watchers keep telling us we're becoming more and more alike. They are completely wrong, of course, and here's the latest piece of evidence. Thomas Function love punk rock, but they love country, blues, new wave, garage rock, and the shit happening up the street, too. It comes out sounding like a bunch of earnest, severe songs from the foothills of Huntsville, Alabama, full of anger, clarity, and bourbon. Is America on the brink of a new rock 'n' roll renaissance? People who snapped up their instantly OOP singles, saw one of their chaotic shows, or participated in the fervid blogging about this bunch aren't betting against it.
