El pianista y compositor sueco Esbjorn Svensson, líder del prestigioso trío de jazz EST, ha muerto a los 44 años por un accidente de buceo en un lago de Ingaro, a las afueras de Estocolmo, informa hoy el periódico 'Dagens Nyheter'.
Svensson, que buceaba con un grupo de amigos el sábado por la tarde, fue encontrado en el fondo del lago y trasladado muy grave en helicóptero al hospital universitario Karolinska de Estocolmo, donde falleció poco después.
La policía sueca ha abierto una investigación para averiguar las causas de la muerte.
Svensson fundó EST (Esbjorn Svensson Trio), compuesto además por Dan Berglund (bajo) y Magnus Ostrom (batería), en 1990.
La banda fue labrándose un nombre, primero en Escandinavia y luego en Europa y el resto del mundo, por un estilo innovador y ecléctico, mezcla de jazz, funk, rock, pop y música clásica, que le reportó elogios de la crítica y éxitos de ventas.
El punto de inflexión lo marcó 'Seven Days of Falling', editado en el 2003, un 'hit' en Alemania, Francia y Suecia que les permitió acompañar a K.D. Lang en su gira americana y ganar al año siguiente el premio Hans Koller como 'Artistas europeos del año', que conceden los críticos de jazz europeos.
Con su siguiente disco, 'Viaticum', viajaron por los principales festivales de jazz del mundo y se convirtieron en la primera banda europea de jazz que apareció en portada de la revista estadounidense 'Downbeat jazz magacine'.
Bengt Save-Soderbergh, presidente de la Asociación de Jazz de Suecia, lamentó la muerte de Svensson que calificó de 'pérdida enorme' para el mundo del jazz, y el ex ministro de Cultura y actual diputado socialdemócrata Leif Pagrotsky lo definió como 'uno de los grandes músicos de nuestro tiempo'.

Singer Issac Hayes seen performing in the U.K. last year. Hayes was found dead Sunday at age 65.
Relatives found Hayes, 65, unconscious in his home next to a still-running treadmill, said Steve Schular, a spokesman for the Shelby County Sheriff's Department.
Paramedics attempted to revive him and took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 2 p.m., the sheriff's department said.
No foul play is suspected, the agency said in a written statement.
Hayes was a longtime songwriter and arranger for Stax Records in Memphis, playing in the studio's backup band and crafting tunes for artists such as Otis Redding and Sam and Dave in the 1960s.
He released his first solo album in 1967.
In 1971, the theme from "Shaft" became a pop hit and won an Academy Award for best original theme song. The song and the movie score also won Grammy awards for best original score and movie theme.

Hace un par de anos lei un reportaje sobre el en Rolling Stone, seguramente sea -fuera-el personaje mas respetado en toda la industria musical.Una pena su muerte.

Su carrera en solitario tuvo varios exitos pero es algo ma smelodica y menos interesante.Me he autocitado para corregir que no formo parte de The Twilights, hoy un chico que he conocido de Australia me lo ha explicado. Fue el productor de sus discos que habia formado parte del grupo. De todas formas trabajo editando temas para gente como Tina Turner entre otros. Sus primeros singles personalmente es lo que mas me gusta. Pensaba y bien convencido de qu habia tocado en algun momento con los Twilights.

Skatalites trumpeter Dizzy Johnny blows his final breath
Internationally recognised trumpeter 'Dizzy' Johnny Moore, a founding member of the Skatalites and ska innovator died yesterday afternoon at his home in Kingston. For the past seven months the 70-year-old Moore had been bravely battling colon cancer, but finally gave up the fight.
John Arlington Moore was born in Kingston on October 5, 1938 to a family that did not consider music a favourable or viable career. But when young Johnny noticed a neighborhood lad playing the drums, he asked, "Bwoy, where did you learn to do that?"

"Whoa, I got to go to that place," was Moore's response.
The problem with Johnny's desire was: only wayward youths were admitted to Alpha. To qualify, he purposely caused enough mischief for his mother to take him and enroll him there. As he put it, "I had to pull a couple of pranks so that they figured I was going haywire."
At Alpha, Johnny Moore studied alongside other future luminaries such as Don Drummond, Lester Sterling and Rico Rodriguez. Under the tutelage of the nuns, he exhibited a sound academic aptitude, and with bandmaster Ruben Delgado's guidance, young Moore discovered his musical voice in the trumpet. He also displayed a keen interest in the harmonic refinement of musical composition, studied printing and excelled at electronics, for which he won a prize as the school's outstanding technician. On graduation, Moore went on to join the Jamaica Military Band where he earned the nickname "Johnny Blow Blow" because of his insistent practice of Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker's music, instead of Beethoven and Bach's, which was favoured by the military band. He was discharged after three years for "not [being] amenable to military discipline, though a good musician".
Moore next worked with the Mapletoft Poulle Orchestra, but was soon forced to quit because of his Rastafari beliefs. According to Dizzy, Poulle "was a lawyer and leader of one of society's top bands. I stayed with his band until my hair grew too long and he figured it was time for me to get a haircut". Away from the social scene, Dizzy grew his locks, adorned himself in burlap cloth and spent his time between the Dungle in West Kingston and Count Ossie's Camp on Wareika Hill in Rockfort.
Jazz sensibilities, Rastafari concepts and the drums of Count Ossie shaped Johnny Moore's mature musical personality and inspired bandleader and camp companion Tommy McCook to reason with him, encouraging him to cut his locks and join the Skatalites.
It was his dazzling solos that earned Johnny his moniker "Dizzy," and it was the Skatalites through which he established himself as the leading trumpeter of the idiom. Arguably the most recorded soloist of the era, among the hundreds of recordings on which "Dizzy" Johnny is featured are Something Special, Ringo, Man in the Street, Schooling the Duke, the Wailers' Love and Affection, Lonesome Feeling, and Nice Time.
Funeral arrangements will be announced.
He is survived by his mother, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
