Edmonton, Canada is is better known for its oil exports than its songwriters. However, 23 year old Alex Calder is taking a strong step in towards this changing. Shifting to Vancouver saw Alex pairing with fellow Edmontonion Mac Demarco (that’s Alex as the female lead in the “Only You” video) playing in Makeout Videotape, scraping by, sleeping on couches and washing dishes. A move back to his mom’s in Edmonton was when Calder began to write and record his own material honing his craft only ever showing close friends his work.

A strong love for classic 60’s/70’s guitar pop (Beach Boys, Beatles) as well as soft spots for Prince and Hall and Oates display his self proclaimed ‘fascination with pop music’. While his influences certainly shape his work it is his natural ear for melody and movement, which make Calder’s work both fluid and engaging. His knack and ambition both in his song writing and production provide a solid foundation for Calder’s music to drift in an out of psychy realms.

Yo lo he escuchado a volumen alto y se escucha muy bien. Nada que ver con el de Flaming Lips por ejemplo.

In 2011 with the release of his debut, self titled album, The Haxan Cloak, solo project of multi instrumentalist, Bobby Krlic, appeared seemingly out of nowhere with an impressively fully formed sound that blew away most anyone who heard it. La versión del 'The Terror' de los Flaming Lips que se ha filtrado suena tan bien/mal como todo lo que han editado los Lips en los últimos 20 años. Es la marca de la casa. No tiene nada que ver con la compresión de los mp3, suena así porque quieren ellos.
El streaming de iTunes del álbum de Bowie sí que suena un poco pobre, pero sirve como primeras escuchas.

es imposible seguir vuestro ritmo. Alguien me puede resumir las cuatro últimas paginas y decirme qué demonios de todos esos grupos que se inventan pelukas y billis debo bajarme? Las dos últimas cosas que he disfrutado como un enano han sido el de los flaming lips y el de yolatengo al que llevo dandole cera desde que se filtró y cada dia me parece más grande. Y sí me siento un viejuno fuera de onda. Gracias por adelantado
