Dear Reader,
We are UUVVWWZ, an avant-blues quartet from Lincoln Nebraska, comprised of Teal Gardner, Jim Schroeder, Dustin Wilbourn, and David Ozinga. We have been playing as UU for five years and have put out one album previously, a self-titled record that was screech-cronky, clubbier, and babier than our current work, the trusted language.
We took two years to write this album and are pleased to present these eight songs to you. In the trusted language we aspire to braid music theory with experimental poetry, which functions as a conduit toward a schizo-cultural critique and embodied project. From our previous record to the trusted language listeners will note a development, a shift resulting in an exceedingly unified perspective that is more acutely political and cohesive sounding.

New music from Boston based alt-folk duo Fat History Month.

These guys have earned a pretty dedicated group of followers after their first release and with good reason, they make deliciously tense and compelling music. It pines back to, on this track specifically, to old The Lonesome Crowded West-style Modest Mouse. In that they use untuned guitars and lots of noise to create what are some of the most satisfying build ups I can think of. This song feels very dense because of it, and it’s really hard to believe just two people are making such switch sweet, moody sounds.

’Oh No It’s…The Wonder Stuff’ is the band’s 7th studio album and comes with the highly anticipated 'From The Midlands With Love' disc, a series of covers of other Midlands bands performed by The Wonder Stuff. Their seventh studio album is rated 8/10 by Uncut magazine, and “one of the most impressive comeback records of our time” by Sabotage Times. Special mention to the fiddle playing of Erica Nokalls, who drives the faster songs along at a belting pace. The album also marks the recording debut of former Pop Will Eat Itself drummer Fuzz Townsend and he gives a steady beat to drive the good ship Wonderstuff along nicely.
Band leader Miles Hunt said this album would be a return to what the band do best and what the fans wanted, namely lots of uptempo songs with sing- a-long choruses.

Fire Records delve further in to the Australian underground with the signing of Melbourne-based four-piece Lower Plenty. Their transfixing LP 'Hard Rubbish' was voted Album of the Year 2012 on Aussie indie bible Mess + Noise and is due for a worldwide release on 1 April. "While the rest of the world were busy embracing Tame Impala, back on their home soil they were being gently eclipsed by one of those rarities in the age of instant blogging and fanfare - a true word of mouth success. With very little in the way of promotion and no presence on the social networks, the whispers soon started and the news of Lower Plenty's enchanting no budget lofi pop gem spread from turntable to turntable." This lead to a label feeding frenzy but the band found the perfect new home in Fire Records, who have quietly been supporting the overseas awareness of new Antipodean music for the past few years, releasing records by the likes of HTRK, Opossom, Blank Realm, Scott & Charlene's Wedding, Ned Collette, Surf City and Orchestra of Spheres. Lower Plenty will also be releasing a split 7" on Matador as part of the label's singles club.

We’re very proud to announce a new release by the UK duo known as The KVB via our sublabel Cititrax. Combining shoegaze guitars, minimal synth melodies, hypnotic drum machine rhythms and reverb drenched vocals, The KVB was first formed in 2010 as the solo project of Klaus Von Barrel. He was later joined by his girlfriend Kat Day, who added synthesizers and abstract visual elements. Their sound can be described as dark, layered, complex and moody – an icy atmosphere juxtaposed by the warmth of distorted guitars.

In the weird, hyper-speed blog-world of the 21st century musical underground Fiction’s ‘80‘s inflected, thoughtful, outsider indie has served to set them apart from a revolving door of faddish trends and fly by night ‘scenes’.
Taking a template determined by debut single Curiosity, the London based quintet of James Howard, Mike Barrett, Nick Barrett, Dave Miller and Jacob Smedegaard saw their rich mash of poly-rhythms and spidery guitar lines pay dividends when second single Big Things was picked up and playlisted by 6music and chosen for an advert by Ford.
With recording for their album underway, Fiction’s multi-instrumentalists honed their live performance with a number of high profile support slots - Warpaint, Metronomy and Everything Everything - and dropped a new track Careful in the summer - regarded to be “Unquestionably one of the singles of the year so far” by The Sunday Times.
Now, the distillation of eighteen months work, The Big Other produced by Ash Workman and James Ford, is released by Moshi Moshi.
