        wild nothing / empty estate ep (captured tracks, 2013)

        ▼ download

        @npwrvsm5:

        “This is a record that happened very fast for me. We had just gotten back from a particularly long European tour last November, our first supporting Nocturne, and I was feeling a lot of things. I found myself struggling with what it meant to be a musician, with what music in general meant to me and what part I could possibly play in it. Playing the same songs every night for months left me bored with myself. But when I got home, for the first time in awhile it suddenly seemed that the pressure was off. We didn’t have any tours planned for several months and I started to remember again why I love music in the first place. I listened to Brian Eno and David Bowie for weeks on end and felt like I was hearing them for the first time. I took a trip to Miami with my girlfriend. I visited my family. I felt free to try things musically that I would have stifled before. The songs on this EP were recorded over a 10 day period and are a reflection of this time. Of all the frustrations and successes and moments of peace in between.” -Jack

          Thurston Moore & Loren Connors - The Only Way to Go Is Straight Through [Northern-Spy]

          @2mt2sjcj:

          Thurston and Loren fearlessly dive into a hot, dark pool and enter a world of surging sound and faint lights. The material on The Only Way To Go Is Straight Through was compiled from two live recordings. Side A was captured at The Stone in Manhattan, where Moore and Connors performed on July 14, 2012 for the second annual Spy Music Festival. The pair met up again on October 17, 2012 to headline Northern Spy’s CMJ showcase at Public Assembly in Brooklyn, and that mesmerizing set became Side B of this record.

          While this was not the first time that Thurston Moore and Loren Connors have performed together, a vinyl pressing of their improvised collaborations is unprecedented. A mere three thousand copies of this extraordinary LP will be available worldwide ONLY on Record Store Day (April 20, 2013)

                    Queens - End Times

                    _Debut Album from New York's Scott Mou.

                    Sounding more like an album Kranky would release than what you might expect to hear on Dial, will appeal to fans of Jandek, Durutti Column, Panda Bear…

                    Scott Mou, known as one half of the duo Jane – the folk techno drone duo he had with Panda Bear – as well as part of Manhattan's famous record store Other Music, debuts with his solo project Queens._

                    _Jacob is the new project by David Cordero (Úrsula) and Marco Serrato (Orthodox). The duo first collaborated on the arrangements that would become the Emma soundtrack. With a mutual love for sci fi and horror films, Jacob push their dark sonics further on The Ominous, a piece for el cine de la mente. Atonal, dissonant string scrapes meld together in discomforting walls of noise, while hidden forces project an ambiguous malignance lurking in the deep fog. Bleak atmospheres and an abyss of subsonic howls threaten to devour all. A sliver of melody occasionally arises as the only light that shines into this dark place._

                      @bruce_billis:1n7wtlia:

                      f0s1, no te ofusques, hombre. las cosas hay que tomarselas con humor y si aparece un pepinyo o un maricanico de vez en cuando es para bien. aqui lo unico que molesta no es que se cuelguen determinadas cosas sino que se pidan los mismos discos cuarenta veces cuando, una vez filtrados, es tan facil encontrarlos como ir a cualquiera de las paginas de descarga que frecuentamos habitualmente (exystence, newalbumreleases, nodata, musicisamazing, funkysouls…) o ir a google y hacer una simple busqueda. si se trata de una novedad de un grupo como los que hablamos aparecera entre los tres primeros resultados seguro. no seamos tan comodones, joder, que a nadie le sobra el tiempo. cuantos mas filtradores haya, mas disfrutaremos todos.

                      En absoluto me ofusco, Bruce, en serio.

                      Es más, leyéndote ahora, me doy cuenta que incluso es posible no me haya dado cuenta de la verdadera intención y tono de tu mensaje.

                      Siendo así te presento mis más sentidas disculpas.

                      No solo eso, además en la segunda parte de tu mensaje he de decirte que tienes más razón que un santo.

                      Bueno, y dejando el chupapollismo y el offtopiqueo de lado, sigamos con el verdadero propósito del hilo :D

                        The Focus Group – Elektrik Karousel (Ghost Box / 2013)

                        @37unq8d8:

                        Ghost Box co-convenor Julian House is back to haunt your waking dreams with a new album of imagined library cues, test-tones, telly themes and yellowed sound-postcards from a 70s childhood you may or may not have endured. This is his first solo album as The Focus Group since 2007′s We Are All Pan’s People, though of course in 2009 there was the magickal, expansive Broadcast collaboration Investigate Witch Cults of The Radio Age. In the best possible sense, it’s a return to business as usual: a deviant collector’s collage of ersatz soft-psych, pastoral jazz, public information announcements, mystic folk and oingy-boingy Open University electronics at once utopian, melancholy, twee, trippy and sinister. It says a lot about the fecundity of Ghost Box’s aesthetic universe that House is still able to wrench material as fresh as this out of its soil, and with Belbury Poly and The Advisory Circle now pursuing a more prog and folk-influenced live band sound, Elektrik Carousel is the most satisfying Ghost Box emission in a while – at least for admirers of the unheimlich, shoppe-soiled sampladelia sensibility it was founded on.

                          Colleen – The Weighing of the Heart (Second Language Music / 2013)

                          @ajaz9ck3:

                          Each of the French artist’s precious LP offerings have represented a further deepening and refining of her craft, getting closer to some kind of spiritual essence. On a so-so day, she makes music that you feel privileged to hear, and on a good day she makes music that cleaves your heart in two. It’s been a long wait for new material – her last album, Les Ondes Silencieuses, is now six years old – but ‘The Weighing Of The Heart’ doesn’t disappoint, despite a considerable burden of expectation. The oneiric shimmer of her music has its contemporary analogs in the likes of Grouper and Julianna Barwick, but on this record in particular Colleen (real name Cécile Schott) communicates with an elegance and clarity few could hope to match. Some of the more obvious electronic interventions of her past work have been pared back, but she still applies a meticulous attention to overdubs, reverbs and sonic placement, giving songs rooted in courtly folk and sacred music a subtle glaze of futurism. Highlights include ‘Going Forth By Day’, an instrumental pitched between medieval drum raga and pastoral jazz, and the puckish clarinet lament of ‘Moonlit Sky’; Schott’s cello and guitar-playing, the driving force behind nearly all the songs, has achieved new heights of creamy fluency, while her singing voice is by turns playful, ethereal and confessional, discharging cryptic lyrics derived in part from yellowed religious texts but speaking, seemingly, to the here and now; and the production has a delicacy and emotional eloquence to it that even Manfred Eicher in his pomp would envy.

                              oigan, muy bien las ultimas filtraciones, pero pongamos un poco de orden, no? yo entiendo que haya veces que uno no sepa donde poner un disco pero aqui hay dos casos que no dan lugar a equivocos. el de the focus group deberia ir al hilo de hauntology y el de los dillinger al de metal. demosle un poco de vida a esos hilos si os parece.

                                        Nonesuch Records releases Sam Amidon’s label debut, Bright Sunny South, on May 14. Produced by Amidon with his childhood friend and longtime collaborator Thomas Bartlett (a.k.a. Doveman) and legendary English engineer Jerry Boys (Buena Vista Social Club, Vashti Bunyan, R.E.M.) and recorded in London, the record features a band made up of Bartlett and multi-instrumentalists Shahzad Ismaily and Chris Vatalaro. Jazz trumpeter Kenny Wheeler also makes a cameo. Amidon himself not only sings but also plays banjo, fiddle, acoustic guitar, and piano on the album.

                                        Amidon describes Bright Sunny South as a “a lonesome record” and a return to the more spare sound of his 2007 self-recorded debut, But This Chicken Proved Falsehearted: “There was an atmospheric quality to my last two records; those albums are like a garden of sounds,” says Amidon, “but this one is more of a journey, a winding path. The band comes rushing in and then they disappear. It comes from more of a darker, internal space.”

                                        The second single from Neil Halstead’s ‘Palindrome Hunches’ is out next week (May 13). The lead track is a lovely new countrified version of album highlight ‘Spin The Bottle’, as premiered on The Line Of Best Fit recently.

                                        The Alt. Version of ‘Spin The Bottle’ features drums from Neil’s Mojave 3 and Slowdive bandmate Ian McCutcheon and pedal steel from Melvin Duffy. The new arrangement turns this introspective song, which Neil says is about “opening up to the person you love”, into soaring cosmic country, reminiscent of Beachwood Sparks at their best.
