Nonesuch Records releases Sam Amidon’s label debut, Bright Sunny South, on May 14. Produced by Amidon with his childhood friend and longtime collaborator Thomas Bartlett (a.k.a. Doveman) and legendary English engineer Jerry Boys (Buena Vista Social Club, Vashti Bunyan, R.E.M.) and recorded in London, the record features a band made up of Bartlett and multi-instrumentalists Shahzad Ismaily and Chris Vatalaro. Jazz trumpeter Kenny Wheeler also makes a cameo. Amidon himself not only sings but also plays banjo, fiddle, acoustic guitar, and piano on the album.
Amidon describes Bright Sunny South as a “a lonesome record” and a return to the more spare sound of his 2007 self-recorded debut, But This Chicken Proved Falsehearted: “There was an atmospheric quality to my last two records; those albums are like a garden of sounds,” says Amidon, “but this one is more of a journey, a winding path. The band comes rushing in and then they disappear. It comes from more of a darker, internal space.”

The second single from Neil Halstead’s ‘Palindrome Hunches’ is out next week (May 13). The lead track is a lovely new countrified version of album highlight ‘Spin The Bottle’, as premiered on The Line Of Best Fit recently.
The Alt. Version of ‘Spin The Bottle’ features drums from Neil’s Mojave 3 and Slowdive bandmate Ian McCutcheon and pedal steel from Melvin Duffy. The new arrangement turns this introspective song, which Neil says is about “opening up to the person you love”, into soaring cosmic country, reminiscent of Beachwood Sparks at their best.

Koan, por favor, opina. A mí se me han mezclado demasiado los momentos "sí" con los momentos "madre de Dios qué cojones se han fumado". Le veía la gracia al segundo de Justice, le veía la gracia al segundo de Digitalism, pero a estos… dos canciones y trozos del resto.

A natural progression from "Ersatz GB”, "Re-Mit” is awash in bass and drum lead grooves, off kilter modern psyk and tense guitar pop, and features some of Mark E Smith's most arresting deliveries to date. The line-up remains the same as "Ersatz GB”, which performed very well worldwide and the band will be heading out on a full UK tour to promote the album throughout the month.

Pues a mi hay 4 canciones que me gustan mucho.
Instant Crush me pone los pelos de punta cada vez que la escucho. La mejor canción del disco de largo.
Giorgio by Moroder además de un homenaje a uno de los padres de la electrónica es un temazo (de acuerdo, Lindstrom tiene 5 de estos en cada disco)
Aunque acabaremos hasta los huevos de Get lucky por temas de la sobreexposición , de entrada es una canción que da en la diana sin chirriar demasiado.
Y Contact es un buen final. Bailongo, emocionante. Mezclado será la caña. Y en directo ni te digo…No será mi disco del año pero desde luego es el disco que más me ha interesado de Daft Punk desde homework

A mi es que la voz del Casablancas…. Get Lucky desde el primer dia me parecia una cara b mala de Chic y me lo sigue pareciendo, y si, las otras dos que dices, Contact y Giorgio By Moroder para mi lo único salvable del disco, ahí coincido.

Creo que ya has leido todo lo que puse en el facebook. Es la primera vez que decido escuchar un disco "mainstream" con la solemnidad con la que suelo hacerlo con propuestas tipo ELEH o Ben Frost, etc… El tema de que estuviera Moroder y el tipo de Chic y tal me había hecho pensar que la cosa iba en serio y que Get Lucky era el single para todos los públicos. Nada más lejos. Juro que lo escuché del tirón, que no pasé un segundo y que me había intentado liberar de prejuicios. Pero joder, es que hay momentos ruborizantes. Es como Andy y lucas con vocoder, como emular los gorgoritos de bisbal sobre una versión del eye of the tiger realizada por camela, hay un momento flauta travesera sobre arpegio de moog que es para cortarse las venas con la minipimer. En serio, es lo peor que he escuchado en mi vida. Y lo del testimonio de la hora chanante by moroder es un golpe muy bajo. Para mí estaban muertos, pero con esa canción creo que han conseguido hasta que vaya a ser complicado poder escuchar algo del homework never more. Ascopena
