disco del anyo:
mark kozelek & jimmy lavalle / perils from the sea (caldo verde, 2013)
@ldoptvma:
'Perils From The Sea' is the debut collaboration by The Album Leaf's multi-instrumentalist Jimmy LaValle and Sun Kil Moon singer Mark Kozelek. The project began on Sept 11, 2011, when Kozelek, a fan and acquaintance of LaValle, asked Jimmy to co-write a song. LaValle, a long time admirer of Kozelek's work, said yes, and the track 'What Happened To My Brother' came together quickly. Pleased with the results, the two agreed to record an entire album. Kozelek and LaValle continued to work together over the following year, until 'Perils From The Sea' was completed. For the album LaValle chose a more minimalist approach to the music than The Album Leaf's large sonic soundscapes. The lyrics to the song, 'You Missed My Heart', Kozelek says were inspired by a nightmare he had in an Ontario hotel room. Kozelek's story-telling narratives playing against LaValle's hypnotic synth sounds and drums beats should come as a pleasant surprise to fans, and should serve as a great introduction to those previously unacquainted with these prolific and acclaimed artists.

brooklyn punk hit wonders. temazos por doquier:
the so so glos / blowout (shea stadium, 2013)
@2end7g7n:
If you know one thing about Brooklyn punk band the So So Glos, it’s that they’re good friends and frequent tourmates of Titus Andronicus, and if you know two things about them, it’s that they’re OGs in the Brooklyn DIY scene, having helped found venues like the Market Hotel and Shea Stadium. The Brooklyn DIY scene isn’t really much help in understanding how the So So Glos sound, though; the borough is currently home to roughly one billion bands, and they don’t exactly share any connecting threads. But even if you didn’t know anything about the band’s Titus connection, you’d probably reach for the comparison after hearing about 15 seconds of Blowout, the So So Glos’ sophomore album. They’ve got that same ragged throat-ripped roars, those serrated beer-punk guitars, those big dynamics that practically demand drunken singalongs. But they don’t have the scope and ambition that Titus showed even on their first album, before the Civil War came into the discussion. Their songs are content to be big, fast, fun anthems with nothing much to say about the greater outside universe beyond, like, “fuck smartphones.” They’re an alternate-universe Titus, a Titus that’s content to kick ass in small and specific ways. And as Blowout proves, that’s a pretty great thing to be.

rollin hunt / the phoney (moniker, 2013)
@2end7g7n:
In the 27 years since arriving here from the fifth dimension, cosmic pop-singer Rollin Hunt has learned a great deal about human emotion. Incredibly, he's almost become one of us: walking the streets of our cities, admiring our women, dancing in our nightclubs–and finally understanding us, crying big, salty tears over our species' violent destiny. And now he's dropping one of the first Major Albums of the 2010s, bringing the message of celestial love that's already earned him a cult-following in England and Canada.

connections / private airplane (anyway, 2013)
@2end7g7n:
Connections' debut album bears an obvious debt to fellow Ohians Guided By Voices' Bee Thousand, but as Columbus lifers (their drummer was in Times New Viking) they get away with it, offering as good a pass at 90s-style guitar rock as you're likely to get outside of the decade.

@moldy:3awnygsw:
Olivier Libaux – Uncovered Queens of The Stone Age (2013)
@3awnygsw:
Olivier Libaux one of the two producer behind the famous Nouvelle Vague project is in with a new unconventional album : Uncovered QOTSA.
This album contains 12 cover songs from the Queens of the Stone Age by some of the best women singers from all over the world like Emiliana Torrini, Alela Diane, Skye (Morcheeba), Inara George, Ambrosia Parsley (Shivaree), Clare Manchon (Clare and The Reasons), Gaby Moreno, Rosemary Standley (Moriarty), Susan Dillane…
This music project started in 2011 by Libaux (a French producer, author, composer and guitarist) with a goal to make a concept album dedicated to covers from the band around a dozen of songs.
After he was granted permission from Josh Homme (singer and guitarist from the Queens of the Stone Age), Libaux started the production of “Uncovered Queens of the Stone Age” where we will find only female singers.http://uploaded.net/file/nz4i3u38
