  • Del que creo que no hemos hablado es de Will Burnett aka INTERNET CLUB, otro de los impulsores de las ecojams, a rebufo de los Ferraro y Lopatin, pero siendo también (al igual que Ramona Vektroid o Chaz Allen) ese perfil de productor anónimo escurridizo que opera desde la habitación de su casa y que inhunda la red de material sonoro y visual de dudosa procedencia, siempre dentro de ese contexto desquiciado de imagineria internetera que mezcla consumismo, nostalgia, resorts, exotismo, páramos ancestrales, estética bedroom, centros comerciales, etc, etc.. Entregado en cuerpo y alma a la causa (autodefine su estilo en su perfil de facebook como vaporterrorism), venerado por las masas de groupies que siguen religiosamente el movimiento y miembro habitual de las ciber-fiestas SPF 420 (http://www.spf420.com/). Entre los akas que se le han podido registrar, aparte de INTERNET CLUB (el que más trascendencia le ha dado): Datavis, DJ Internet Visions, ECCO UNLIMITED, Memorex Dawn, Monument XIII, SunCoast Web Series, ░▒▓新しいデラックスライフ▓▒░ y el que me parece el más interesante de todos (junto a INTERNET CLUB): Wakesleep, que es con el que está despuntando este año, dejando un poco de lado el vaporwave pero sin salirse de las lindes hauntológicas, en la brecha drone, glitch, ambient, etc

    One of the foremost vaporwave artists is the prolific Will Burnett a.k.a INTERNET CLUB, who has now evolved into Wakesleep. A few weeks ago, Wakesleep released his first album, and boy does it ever make this question of taste and timbre interesting. Like many vaporwave records, not 2 far away relies heavily on repetition, but in this case, the sound sources and timbres are not always readily apparent. It seems that Burnett often takes the smallest sample possible and lets it repeat/warp into oblivion. As a result, the audio becomes completely removed from its original context and these once saccharine sounds become rather austere, sometimes even abrasive. Couple that with some truly startling uses of space and the results sound more like Jim O’Rourke or Toshimaru Nakamura than Macintosh Plus, proving that even the most “outdated” sounds have the potential to jar a listener when slightly altered.

  • Perdonad el autobombo, pero os paso un enlace de una entrevista que les hice por mail hace unos seis meses. Se ha reeditado otro disco y alguno más va a seguir el mismo camino.
    Me parecen un grupo flipante. Todo el material de ellos que he podido escuchar es muy interesante.

    Ya lo había leído! Buscando info del grupo, y no sabía que eras tú el entrevistador. Enhorabuena porque no hay mucho sobre ellos. Joder, llevo unos meses que me da de vez en cuando por buscar su primer disco en descarga y me vuelvo con las manos vacías.

    Me pongo con Penguin Cafe Orchestra que les tenía en wishtlist, les he echado una oreja en youtube y me he animado. La primera impresión es que son muy placenteros, un sonido de orquesta muy inglés.

You may previously have encountered it four of five years ago on Mutant Sounds, who proclaimed it “absolute unsung genius…uncanny and weirdly affecting”, and certainly weren’t wrong. Both the original private pressing on the band’s own Sunshine Series and the subsequent re-release on Savage Republic’s Independent Projects label are much sought after, but collector’s cache of this album is secondary to its musical value - it really is a classic. Working with acoustic guitars, clarinet, rhythm box, keyboards, singing bowls, pixiephone and subtle processing, this is gloriously DIY, melancholic, avant-garde pastoralism that connects the dots between Pentangle, Gareth Williams, Penguin Cafe Orchestra, Dif Juz and Robert Wyatt. From the cool summer breeze of opener, which sounds like a library-rock jam between Basil Kirchin and Vini Reilly, to the trippy, proto-techno drum ‘n Moog mantras of ‘Pokhara’ and ‘The Cleaner’, and mystic folk ruminations like ‘C.H. Revisited’ and ‘A Wave’, there isn’t a dull moment.     Muy bien traído Robert Wyatt en la entrada de manel. No ya por Eno al que también se nombra, si no por la melancolía que esconde. A mi me recuerdan a Stereolab, Arto Lindsay, al Camino del Sol de Antena, y ya tirándome a la piscina, a la música de Minas Gerais (Milton, Lô, Toninho Horta, Beto Guedes), en cuanto a melancolía, quede claro. Una melancolía placentera y a la vez cargada de misterio.
