ghostpoet / some say i so i say light (play it again sam, 2013)

@2vbdnhlz:
Coventry rapper Obaro Ejimiwe won a nomination for the Mercury Prize with his 2011 album Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam; he has also remixed tracks for Metronomy and Birdy and appeared as a guest on The Streets album Cyberspace and Reds.
Despite the presence of Richard Formby (Wild Beasts, Egyptian Hip-Hop) on production this time, Some Say I So I Say Light doesn’t stray too far from the down-tempo, trip-hop inspired template of his debut record.
Songs such as Cold Win and Dial Tones linger in a shadowy world similar to Massive Attack and Tricky’s. Plastic Bag Brain, however, has an interesting Afro-jazz feel thanks to drummer Tony Allen and guitarist Dave Okumu and Sloth Trot has a pleasingly loose rhythm supplied by Charles Hayward of This Heat. The surprise is perhaps Dorsal Morsel, featuring the vocals of Gwilym Gold, which develops into a hypnotic “synth utopia”.Ghostpoet - Meltdown (Official Video) | ► play
