The Brownsville rapper and producer unveils his second album in two years.
While Ka has been making music for the best part of two decades, the past few years have been an especially fertile period, resulting in three solo full-lengths including last year’s Grief Pedigree, which featured the not-so-sunny single ‘Summer’.
On his new record The Night’s Gambit, Ka sounds like a man who knows exactly what he’s doing, hunched low over the mic to deliver a stream of rough whispers in an artfully lyrical manner that harks back to the best of ’90s New York. You want a catchy radio hook? No such luck – the GZA-approved rapper is all about the well-chosen and tightly looped sample, allowing the spoken word to take centre stage. A slow-burning winner, we’d say.

A los sabios de este hilo, ¿4/5 discos que deba escuchar de este año?. En breve me voy de vacaciones y hay que cargar el ipod. He escuchado el Run the jewels (me ha molado mucho), Kanye West y Tyler, the creator (prrrrrrfffff) y los Dopplegangaz (o algo así), que tb me ha gustado bastante.

los de run the jewels y the doppelgangaz son muy bien. el que acabo de colgar de ka es canela en rama y luego los de young black preachers, ugly heroes, joey bada$$ y knxwledge son muy buena mierda. y si ya quieres que te explote la cabeza, tírate directo al de clipping.

El compilado de Knx es la puta ostia en bicicleta. Empacho de beats cremeros uno detrás de otro, sin cuartel, rozando peligrosamente la saturación del oyente, al más puro estilo Madlib. Ideal para ir este veranito con las ventanillas del coche hasta abajo. No me extraña que los chicos de Stones Throw le hayan echado la zarpa.
Y hablando de Madlib. Larry Gus (DFA Records) se ha montado una sesioncilla de hora y media con 100% material de Madlib. Mu rica, y con opción de descarga.

Aún así el arte de planchar para apreciar la calidad musical está infravalorado.
Varias veces he leído a músicos que dicen que al terminar un tema se lo ponen en el coche para comprobar si funciona. Pues bien, yo les contesto que una polla como la manga de un abrigo ruso.
Planchar es la actividad.

de este año, el Twelve Reasons To Die de Ghostface Killah con Adrian Younge es de lo mejorcito que han hecho Wu-Tang y alrededores en bastante tiempo y hay una versión remezclada/producida por Apollo Brown que mola bastante también: http://soultemplemusic.bandcamp.com/alb ... brown-tape

el de ghostface killah no me llamaba mucho la atencion pero habra que darle un tiento a ver que tal.
el de ghostpoet no esta mal pero se me hace un poco monotono. lo veo menos imaginativo que en su primer disco y quiza le falte algun tema redondo como habia en aquel, un cash and carry me home, para encandilarme totalmente. si os mola el ultimo y no habeis catado el anterior, ya tardais.

Hola, os digo lo que hay pq lo que escribo aquí va a misa y os ahorro pensar, el bueno de Ghostaface es la versión de Apollo, el de Ghospoet normalito y el de Clipping no me ha parecido nada del otro mundo. Ahora que sabéis la valoración del prueba ya podéis descansar tranquilos. Intentaré hacer una lista de mitad de Agosto para que tengáis una guia de lo que tenéis que escuchar pq os veo un poco perdidos.

Backwoodz Studioz is excited to announce the July 2nd release of Dour Candy, a collaboration between Brooklyn-based rapper billy woods (formerly of the Super Chron Flight Brothers) and Manhattan producer Blockhead (Ninja Tune, Def Jux). The album is fully produced by Blockhead and sees woods joined on the mic by Aesop Rock, Open Mike Eagle, Elucid, Moka Only and L’Wren. This project comes at an interesting point for both artists; woods is fresh off the success of his critically-acclaimed opus History Will Absolve Me, an incendiary LP that left a heavy footprint on Best Of 2012 lists. For his part, despite a veritable canon of work with Aesop Rock and a series of successful instrumental records, 2013 represents a new direction for Blockhead. “I decided I wanted to do rap albums again and I just reached out to artists that I was a fan of,” he explains. It has already been a busy year for the producer, who just released an album with indie veteran Illogic in April.

A follow-up to their critically-acclaimed debut, Return of The Mac, the 16-track project includes reader-approved singles "Dough Pildin," "Give 'Em Hell," and "YNT." Throughout the set, Prodigy is joined on the mic by such collaborators as Action Bronson, Domo Genesis, Havoc, Raekwon and Roc Marciano. Alchemist handles all production on the album.

Ayer asistí a un bolo de la sesión angelina Low End Theory en Berlin y fue magnífico. Djs D-Styles, Nobody, Daddy Kev… con mc Nocando. Jugando entre el hip-hop, drum&bass/dub y electrónica variada. Hubo tiempo para 'Collard Greens' y 'Backseat Freestyle' para fardar un poco de ciudad. 8 pavos, 3 euros la cerveza fresquita en su botella y política de fume tantos porros dentro como pueda.
