Stunning looking new album from Jackie-O, the debut release from new Canadian label Uzu Audio. Comes in a colour hand-screened gatefold sleeve with die-cut inner, printed clear inner sleeve and insert and pressed on very heavy vinyl: "What started out as an effort to issue some live recordings from the Fig. 5/Liberation era slowly turned into what is the most recent live recordings made available. The free jazz tinged freak-outs you were going to hear have been shelved so we could bring you these three swirling moments in time. Almost an entirely different line up on this Jackie-O than previous releases, Tom Greenwood brings along Nick Bindeman, Danny Sasaki, Corey Fogel (Gowns) and Eva Salens (Inca Ore), joined by fellow sonic adventurers, Jessica Rylan on one track, while on the last track they are joined in Italy by The Moglass and My Cat Is An Alien. The entire first side features a sÇance sure to bring out all the ghosts in your home as the percussion builds and the guitars, synths, and saxophone create a shimmering, sparse back drop for the spirits to frolic to. While the second hints at the JOMF of yester year with a moaning trombone, a noodling blues tinged guitar and the cries of a lone saxophone on the first track. And to close it all off a dense dreamy endless mess of drones, moans, bells and such recorded in Italy. Though Enge flashes past in a mere twelve minutes, that's all the time needed for the listener to be wholly seduced by its four captivating songs. [Pioulard] creates crystalline folk-pop teeming with fragile vocals, acoustic guitars, electronics, and percussion in a hazy shoegaze style that's somewhat reminiscent of Khonnor and more than a little easy to fall in love with.

William Basinski - El Camino Real [2062, 2007]**
@11el969y:Background information is typically scant with this latest release from William Basinski's 2062 label, but what we do know is that it features re-discovered tape loops that have been delicately re-crafted for a recent performance at the Montalvo Arts Center. Clocking in at just under 50 minutes, "El Camino Real" is another one of those breathtaking aural tapestries that Basinski seems to have such an intuitive feel for - effortlessly piecing together elements that bring to mind everything from Arvo Part through to the Cocteau Twins without ever letting go of his own signature sound. Because the source material for these loops has been de-graded and layered so heavily, it's hard to imagine where they could have come from or how they could have been made - all that we're left with are mesmerising remnants of a ghostly female voice dominating the undulating mix to almost harrowing effect. There's also something about this recording that brings to mind more recent contemporary musical experimentations, and in particular the work of Liz Harris under the Grouper moniker - its the same archetypal shoegaze aesthetic that dominates this extended piece and it has a similarly overwhelming effect on the senses : lulling you into a deep state of drift before reminding you that behind the velvety wall of sound lies an uncertain, complex world. "El Camino Real" is certainly one of Basinski's most absorbing pieces and, for us at least, offers the most contemporary re-interpretation of his own archive recordings to date.

Dejo por aquí la que será la cara B del primer single de Strawberry Jam; Peacebone, que saldrá en agosto. La cara B es otro temazo que podría estar perfectamente en el disco. Por cierto, esta la tocaron el año pasado en su concierto del PS.

A mi Strawberry Jam me ha acabado gustando bastante. No es, ni de lejos, el mejor disco de Animal Collective, pero no deja de ser un muy buen disco.
Lo primero que sorprende es que es un disco de pop, normal y corriente (bueno, todo lo normal y corriente que puede sonar un disco de este grupo). En lugar de innovar con respecto a sus anteriores trabajos, como venian haciendo hasta ahora con cada disco, se han quedado con la parte mas accesible de Feels.
Al principio esto me mosqueó un poco, pero escuchandolo ya en frio vi que es un discazo de pop, el mas pop y accesible de su carrera, con singles a monton. Peacebone, Fireworks, Reverend Green, Chores, Winter Wonderland (la cancion mas comercial que han hecho en su vida?),….
De mis favoritos de lo que llevamos de año, aunque la verdad es que con este grupo no puedo ser muy objetivo...

lo escuche el otro día y la verdad que al final me cansó bastante, no lo termine, tiene su gracia pero sobretodo lo veo para pillar samples, bases sobre las que trabajar encima o para la gente que una hace turntablism…
