The Crane Wife, el tema que da título al disco, está basada en una historia tradicional japonesa y sigue la línea de canción narrativa de The Tain.
Afirman los Decemberists que han estado escuchando folk británico de los 60s-70s (Shirley Collins, Fairport Convention, Ann Briggs) en busca de inspiración.

Grandaddy frontman Jason Lytle has announced details of a solo acoustic tour.The star will play material from Grandaddy's 'farewell' album 'Just Like The Fambly Cat' as well as a string of the band's favourites. They announced their split exclusively on NME.COM earlier this year.
Lytle will be joined by multi-instrumentalist Rusty Miller at the shows.

También tienes el Melkweg, sala "multidisciplinar" con expos , conciertos, etc...y algún grande toca en el Heineken, sala patrocinada por ellos mnismos, claro.
Aprovecho la ocasión para recomendarte el De Kuil. Que buen coffee con cerveza y Grateful Dead. Y el buen material del Blue Bird. Y alguno más si lo necesitas.

Charles Smith de Kool & the Gang se ha muerto. El pasado martes tras una larga enfermedad.
No era un grupo que em flipase excesivamente pero tenía algunos temas bailables y chulos.Claydes Charles Smith, a co-founder and lead guitarist of the group Kool & the Gang, has died. He was 57. Smith died in Maplewood, N.J., on Tuesday after a long illness, publicist David Brokaw said Thursday. Brokaw did not know the cause of death. "We've lost a member of our family, as well as an infinitely creative and gifted artist who was with the band from the very beginning," band manager Tia Sinclair said in a statement. Kool & the Gang grew from jazz roots in the 1960s to become one of the major groups of the 1970s, blending jazz, funk, R&B and pop. After a downturn, the group enjoyed a return to stardom in the '80s. Smith, who was known as Charles Smith, wrote the hits "Joanna" and "Take My Heart," and was a co-writer of others, including "Celebration," "Hollywood Swinging" and "Jungle Boogie."

Los Kool & The Gang, desde los 80 hasta ahora, son simplemente una mierda. Pero sus grabaciones de los 70 son la polla en vinagre. Un funk alucinante y de muchísimos quilates. Hay dos ejemplos de ello: su Open Sesame (1976) incluido en la BSO de Saturday Night Fever y la brutal Jungle Boogie (1973) que Tarantino incluyo en la BSO de Pulp Fiction. Solo por esas dos canciones, ya vale la pena escucharlos. A finales de los 70 y en lo 80 se volvieron muy comerciales, pero su Celebration o Ladies Night fue hasta incluso bailado por una servidora de ustedes en alguna ocasión.

Stars set Ian Curtis biopic soundtrack
David Bowie, Roxy Music and Iggy Pop are among the acts confirmed to join New Order on the soundtrack to the new film about Joy Division singer Ian Curtis, 'Control'.As already reported on NME.COM, New Order, who formed from the ashes of Joy Division after Curtis committed suicide in 1980, are to perform the score for the movie, which begins filming in July.
But the soundtrack will also feature original Joy Division and Warsaw (as they were initially known) songs.
Other acts set to appear on the soundtrack include Buzzcocks, Lou Reed and the Sex Pistols, reports New Order fansite worldinmotion.net.
The movie will be directed by Anton Corbijn, and features Sam Riley - the frontman of indie band 10,000 Things - in the role of Curtis.

Pulp get reissued
Classic Britpop trilogy re-released with bonus CD
Three classic Pulp albums are set to be reissued, each with a host of extra tracks.1994's 'His 'n' Hers' , 1995's massive commercial breakthrough 'Different Class' and 1998's 'This Is Hardcore' will all be reissued, each with a bonus disc of B-sides, demos and rarities.
The albums will be available in expanded from from August 21, with full details of the bonus disc material to be confirmed shortly.

Únicamente han grabado dos temas para la continuación de Give Up (03), y el dúo esperará a que terminen los proyectos prioritarios de ambos para centrarse en su nuevo disco. Parece además que Jenny Lewis se implicará aún más en esta segunda entrega.

Arcade Fire ready new album
15 songs recorded
Arcade Fire have recorded 15 songs for their new album.Singer Win Butler also revealed that the band hoped to record a few songs with a full orchestra in Budapest.
As previously reported by NME.COM, the as-yet-untitled follow-up to 2005's 'Funeral' is being recorded in a church in the band's home city of Montreal, which they converted into a studio.
On the bands official site Butler posted:
"Just letting you know that things are going very well here in the studio. We have maybe 15 songs with little bits left to record and a few more we want to get to tape. We are going to try and record a couple of songs in me and Regine's living room, because the drums sound so great in there…Feeling excited and inspired, learning to play all these new instruments...Well mostly Regine to be honest! It's gonna be really interesting how we're going to fit all of these new sounds in a tour bus."Butler also revealed that the band was working a new sound into their music:
"This week we are recording a huge fucking pipe organ on 2 songs...what an incredible sound!"He also revealed that violinist Final Fantasy, who played on 'Funeral', would be featuring on the new tracks.
"Owen (Pallet - from Final Fantasy) is coming here to record with us in early July. There is talk of recording a few songs with a full orchestra in Budapest...The next couple of weeks we will be pulling our hair out."
