The Stooges have announced that their new album, titled The Weirdness, will be released in Spring 2007. The reunited band, now featuring original Stooges Iggy Pop, Ron Asheton, Scott Asheton and Steve Mackay teaming up with ex-Minutemen bassist Mike Watt, recorded the album in Chicago’s Electrical Audio studio with legendary producer Steve Albini.

The Stooges reformed following a successful appearance at California’s Coachella festival in 2004. Buoyed on by the warm reaction from fans, the band set out on an extensive reunion tour, before deciding to start work on a new studio album.

Tracks confirmed to appear on the album include; "Trollin," "Greedy Awful People," "Claustrophobia," "Mexican Guy," "I'm Fried," "ATM," "O Solo Mio," "She Took My Money," and "End Of Christianity." One track "Free and Freaky," features vocals from the Raconteurs' Brendan Benson.

Velvet Underground rarity sells on eBay

    10/XII/2006 2:06 AM, AP
    Verena Dobnik

Forty years after it wasmade, The Velvet Underground's first recording has become a financialhit — in cyberspace. Bought for 75 cents four years ago at a Manhattanflea market, the rare recording of music that ended up on theinfluential New York band's first album, "The Velvet Underground &Nico," sold on eBay for a closing bid of $155,401.

The buyer is a mystery, only identified by the eBay screen name: "mechadaddy."

But a greater mystery endures: How did the 12-inch, acetate LP end up buried in a box of records at a flea market?

Warren Hill, a collector from Montreal, bought the record in September2002 at the flea market, according to an article written by his friend,Eric Isaacson of Mississippi Records in Portland, Ore. in the currentissue of Goldmine Magazine.

Isaacson helped Hill decipher the nature of the lucky find.

"We cued it up and were stunned — the first song was not 'SundayMorning' as on the 'Velvet Underground & Nico' Verve LP, but ratherit was 'European Son' — the song that is last on that LP, and it was aversion neither of us had ever heard before!" Isaacson wrote.

The recording turned out to be an in-studio acetate made during VelvetUnderground's first recording over four days in April 1966 at NewYork's Scepter Studios. The record reportedly is only one of two inexistence; the other is privately owned, with rumors circulating aboutthe owner's identity. Columbia Records rejected the album.

"I immediately took the needle off the record, and realized that we hadsomething special," Isaacson wrote. Hill and Isaacson photographed thealbum, made a digital backup copy of the music, and decided to put itup for auction. The first bids, which began Nov. 28, rose $20,000.

Velvet Underground left its musical stamp on hundreds of other bands.

The band, named after a book about edgy sex practices in the 1960s, was fueled by Moe Tucker's hard-driving drumming, John Cale's anxious viola, and lead singer Lou Reed, whose lyrics spoke of drug-induced beauty and gritty Lower East Side realities.

The first album featured Nico, the European model-actress-singer in a first and last recorded appearance with the band.

It's twin boys for `ecstatic' musical couple Elvis Costello and Diana Krall

NEW YORK (AP) - Elvis Costello and wife Diana Krall are the parents of twin boys.

The new arrivals - named Dexter Henry Lorcan and Frank Harlan James - were born on Wednesday 6th December, according to a statement from the couple. "We are ecstatic!'' the statement continued, going on to add that "mother and sons are doing splendidly.''

The births came on the couple's third wedding anniversary. The statement provided no other details on the twins.

Costello, 52, is a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer known for songs like "Veronica,'' "Pump It Up'' and "Alison.'' He most recently collaborated with Allen Toussaint on the album "The River in Reverse.'' The 42-year-old Krall, a jazz singer and pianist, released her latest album, "From This Moment On,'' in September.

The couple live in New York. This is Costello's third marriage, and Krall's first.-AP

Frank Black Preps "Winter" CD/DVD, Shares Videos

I'm dreaming of a Black Christmass, and it looks like my wish will come true just in time for the holidays. On December 18, Frank Black will release a limited edition CD/DVD by the, um, interesting title above.

Why the double-"s"? Black explained in a press release, "My father always encouraged me to one day put out a Christmas album, which I always found a bit strange, since he was a self-declared pagan. But, I guess by 'Christmas', he meant winter. And it always sort of bothered me that that extra 's' got dropped off of Christmas."

Yeah, we don't know what he's talking about either.

The UK release (no word on a U.S. version yet) will only be available by mail order through Cooking Vinyl, though it may be out in stores at some point in the future.

The album, produced Myles Mangino, features several live acoustic tracks recorded on Black's 2006 summer tour, as well as five studio cuts done in hotel rooms and Hartford, CT's Planet of Sound Studio.

A DVD including footage from one of the aforementioned summer shows will be packaged with the album, giving fans seven new songs altogether.

Videos for "Do What You Want Gyaneshwar" and "Don't Get Me Wrong" have popped up on YouTube and, according to the fansite FrankBlack.net, are reportedly slated for inclusion on the DVD.

Unfortunately, "Gyaneshwar" is extremely pixelated and blurry here, but we can tell you that it is fast-paced and family-oriented. "Don't Get Me Wrong" switches between high-contrast video of the Pixies frontman strumming his guitar (his head blends in with the white background, and it makes him look like an alien) and creepy clips of a shirtless, heavily eyeliner'd Black resting on what might be a silk teal pillow. Yikes.

New Frank Black Video - "Don't Get Me Wrong"
Someone get this man a light meter! Black Francis is a spectral vision with a guitar thanks to the white balance in this clip for ""Don't Get Me Wrong" from the forthcoming CD/DVD set Christmass, due out 12/18 on Cooking Vinyl in the UK only. Lucky Brits!

    Oklahoma approves 'Flaming Lips' alley
Updated Thu. Dec. 7 2006 12:58 PM ET

    Associated Press

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City Council has designated an alley in the city's Bricktown area in honour of The Flaming Lips.

The city council also voted Tuesday to name two streets in the burgeoning entertainment and restaurant district in honour of country singer Vince Gill and jazz great Charlie Christian, both Oklahoma City natives.

Lead singer Wayne Coyne said the honour means a lot to The Flaming Lips, who got their start in Oklahoma City in 1983.

"So many bands despise their hometowns," Coyne said. "I guess we're just lucky or it never felt that way to us. Oklahoma City never rejected us. It's always seemed to be a strange twist of fate that even though we want to play Los Angeles or London, we weren't doing it to say we don't like where we came from."

The psychedelic indie rock band's latest album, "At War With the Mystics," was released earlier this year.

Coyne said having an alley designated in their honour was somewhat appropriate, as The Flaming Lips have never been mainstream.

"It's not just a typical, 'Give them a street, give them a statue, give them a handshake.' It's like some little secret special thing," he said.

"I could see people sneaking in during the middle of the night doing graffiti art," he said of the alley. "I can see all kinds of strange things going on there."

Gladiator actress Connie Nielsen and Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich are expecting their first child together, PEOPLE has confirmed.

"They are ecstatic," Nielsen's rep, Joy Limanon, tells PEOPLE. The baby is due in the early summer.

This year, the Danish-born, New York-based Nielsen, 42, appeared as Detective Dani Beck on NBC's Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. She costarred with Russell Crowe in 2000's Gladiator and will next be seen playing a journalist in Iraq in the February drama The Situation.

She and Ulrich, also 42 and a Denmark native, have been dating for about two years.

Nielsen has a 16-year-old son, Sebastian, from a previous marriage; Ulrich is the father of sons Myles, 8, and Layne, 5, also from a previous marriage.

Last year, Nielsen told PEOPLE that dating Ulrich hadn't upped her rock credibility with her son. "He's not impressed whatsoever," she said. "It'd be better if (Lars) was a guy struggling to sell CDs out of a suitcase at Grand Central Station. But Metallica? Not impressed."

When Scarlett Johansson turned up on the set for Louis Vuitton's spring campaign last month, the crew discovered the actress had given her famous blonde locks a pink tint.

That suited Vuitton artistic director Marc Jacobs just fine, given the romantic mood of his collection, which featured dense ruffles, Liberty prints and monogram handbags overlaid with metallic lace.

"She looks like the French coquette," Jacobs said of Johansson's appearance in Vuitton's next campaign, slated to break in February magazines. "It's just fresh, very romantic and extremely pretty."

The luxury brand does not disclose figures, but analysts have estimated Vuitton spends more than $250 million annually on advertising.

The spring-summer spots, photographed by Vuitton regulars Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott at a London studio equipped with a swing as the central prop, represent an encore for Johansson, who posed for the French company in 2004 beside a crop of other young actors, including Chloë Sevigny, Christina Ricci, Diane Kruger and Hayden Christensen.

Jacobs said Johansson is a "terrific" model, whose voluptuous curves and flawless skin are displayed in the ads to full effect. She shares the spotlight with Vuitton's latest collection of covetable bags, including its emblematic LoVe totes. Ready-to-wear, footwear, fine jewelry and fantasy jewelry also are featured.

Past Vuitton campaigns have included the likes of Jennifer Lopez and Uma Thurman, and Jacobs said only celebrities or supermodels seem to suit the brand's stature. "It works for us," he said. "I think of Vuitton as a larger-than-life luxury brand."

But Johansson's isn't the only campaign for Vuitton next season. There is also a dedicated campaign for Vuitton's iconic "Nomade" leather featuring model Gemma Ward and photographed by Alas and Piggott. It will appear in select titles this month and next.
