LOS ÁNGELES (AFP) - Una marca de bebidas gaseosas estadounidense desafió al grupo de rock duro Guns n' Roses a sacar su nuevo álbum, anunciado hace años, antes de finales de 2008, prometiendo regalar una bebida a "todo el mundo en Estados Unidos", anunció el jueves la empresa.
(Publicidad)"Dr Pepper anima (de acuerdo, suplica) a Axl Rose a sacar (al mercado) por fin su obra maestra (…) 'Chinese Democracy', en 2008", dice la marca con sede en Texas (sur) en una carta abierta dirigida al cantante del grupo.
"En un impulso de solidaridad sin precedentes con Axl, todo el mundo en Estados Unidos, excepto los antiguos guitarristas (del grupo) Slash y Buckethead, recibirá una lata Dr Pepper gratis si el álbum sale en 2008", añade la empresa detallando a continuación su producto.
Por su parte, Axl Rose afirmó en el sitio oficial del grupo estar "muy sorprendido y feliz por tener el apoyo de Dr Pepper", aclarando que no existe, que él sepa, ningún acuerdo comercial entre su grupo y la marca de bebidas.
El cantante no precisó sin embargo si 'Chinese Democracy' saldría en 2008. La publicación de este disco lleva 10 años posponiéndose, por lo que en 2005 el New York Times lo calificó con ironía como "el álbum más caro nunca grabado".

Sé que no viene a cuento y, de hecho, ya me estaría justificando demasiado pero…hace tiempo que veo a la Roisin con cara de Trinxo o, quizá, lo que veo es a Trinxo vestido de Roisin, no sé. Claro que yo sé que cara tiene el jodido, tiene un puesto de castañas en Via Augusta y me dijo la útlima vez que le compré un boniato que esta temporada había ido floja. Además esto ya cuenta como "news" ¿no? Las castañas estan a la baja. Lo mismo pasa con el mimbre y el esparto. Y podría seguir pero...pa qué!

El concepto tradicional de gran cita musical sufre una profunda metamorfosisMás de dos millones de personas pasarán por alguno de los casi 90 festivales de música que se celebran este verano. Este tipo de conciertos están viviendo una profunda transformación. Poco queda de los primeros festivales que se empezaron a celebrar en España a mediados de los noventa, donde los gustos musicales de los organizadores y la coherencia en el cartel primaban sobre patrocinadores e intereses económicos.
Rock in Río cuenta con un mareante presupuesto de 30 millones de euros
El nuevo modelo de festival se erige como un parque de atracciones para toda la familia. Se convierte en un escaparate perfecto para las marcas (telefonía, videojuegos, moda…) en el que la música juega un discreto papel. "El nuestro no es un festival tradicional", explica Roberta Medina, de 30 años y directora ejecutiva de Rock in Río, uno de los últimos festivales en llegar. "Pensamos un 50% en la música y un 50% en el entretenimiento", continúa. Con 30 millones de euros de presupuesto -una cifra mareante e inédita en España- esta multitudinaria cita nacida hace 27 años en Brasil propone una extraña oferta, donde grupos como los adolescentes Tokio Hotel comparten cartel con Bob Dylan. Neil Young, con Manolo García. Loquillo, con Amy Winehouse. Estopa, con Franz Ferdinand.
Este festival contará con cuatro centros comerciales, ocho áreas de alimentación, zona para niños y de ocio (snowboard, tirolinas...). Los organizadores estiman una asistencia de unas 100.000 personas a cada uno de los cinco días de festival.
¿Es ése, entonces, el futuro de los festivales en España? "Es muy difícil que sea así", explica Alberto Guijarro, director del Primavera Sound, que con tres millones de euros de presupuesto se ha convertido es uno de los más conocidos festivales independientes. "Pero si el Rock in Río consigue cumplir con sus expectativas los dos modelos de festivales pueden coexistir perfectamente", continúa.
Lo mismo piensa Ernesto González, responsable de prensa del Festival Internacional de Benicàssim (FIB), que cuenta con nueve millones de euros de presupuesto: "Con los nuevos festivales se diluye un poco el concepto de festival que se creó en los noventa, pero creo que los veteranos seguirán manteniendo una personalidad".
Por un lado están los festivales que acomodan y varían sus carteles dependiendo de los grupos disponibles en ese momento y por el otro, los festivales empeñados en una línea editorial concreta. De los primeros, un ejemplo podría ser el Bilbao Live Festival, donde si el año pasado actuaron grupos básicamente guitarreros (Iron Maiden, Red Hot Chili Peppers o My Chemical Romance) este año cuentan con Police o Lenny Kravitz como cabezas de cartel. En la otra orilla se situarían festivales veteranos y que conservan su personalidad, como Viña Rock (de rock duro y con 50.000 personas de asistencia), Primavera Sound y FIB (de música independiente) y Sónar (electrónica).
Para estos últimos, la inversión de patrocinadores privados no imprescindible. En el festival Viña Rock, que tras un año de litigio judicial entre la promotora y el Ayuntamiento de Villarrobledo volverá a celebrarse en el pueblo manchego, dicen que su fuente de ingresos es la venta de entradas. "La importancia de patrocinadores y marcas es insignificante para nosotros", explica Gabriel Nieves, su director.
Las dos promotoras que han irrumpido últimamente en este territorio, Sinnamon (con seis festivales este verano) y Last Tour Internacional (con cuatro) no quisieron hacer ninguna declaración para este reportaje. Son precisamente las dos empresas a las que los demás festivales acusan de competencia desleal: la primera movió las fechas de su Summercase para que coincidiesen con el veterano FIB y la segunda ha dejado fuera de juego al Festimad con el Getafe Electric Weekend. Esta batalla abierta entre los festivales no sólo tiene que ver con el baile de fechas sino también con comprobar quién sobrevivirá el año que viene. Y en esa guerra sólo manda el público...

SYR 7 AVAILABLE APRIL 22
The seventh installment of Sonic Youth's series of experimental + sometimes instrumental releases will be available on April 22, 2008 in a vinyl-only edition self-released on the band's own SYR label.
The A-side, 'J'accuse Ted Hughes' is a previously unreleased 22 minute drone-piece recorded by Sonic Youth at the All Tomorrows Parties Festival in the UK April 2001. At ATP the band previewed instrumental and early versions of songs from the then soon-to-be recorded 'NYC Ghosts and Flowers' and performed this premiere + exclusive performance of 'J'accuse Ted Hughes'.
The B-side, 'Agnes B Musique' is a soundtrack-style piece recorded at the band's own Murray Street Studio in 2001 for a never-to-be realized collaboration with French clothing designer Agnes B. This 18 minute long musical piece was recorded with a 5-piece version of SY, the 4 members of SY being joined by Jim O'Rourke who also mixed 'Agnes B Musique'.

SONIC YOUTH ETC.: SENSATIONAL FIX
The museum exhibition SONIC YOUTH ETC. : SENSATIONAL FIX focuses on the multidisciplinary activities of Sonic Youth since the band's formation in 1981. It features the band's collaborations with visual artists, filmmakers, designers and musicians, as well as a choice of other works selected by the band. Through the multidisciplinary output of Sonic Youth and related works by other artists in the exhibition, an alternative history of contemporary culture is being uncovered in which the division between 'high art' and 'low art' is being called into question, while issues are explored such as teenage rebellion, adolescent wanderlust, gender, fame, fashion, sexuality, and religion. The exhibition is initiated and curated by freelance curator Roland Groenenboom in collaboration with the band and will be presented at LIFE, St. Nazaire, France (from 17 June to 7 September 2008), MUSEION , Bolzano, Italy (from 10 October 2008 to 4 January 2009), and Kunsthalle Dusseldorf, Germany (31 January to 26 April 2009). Clickair deja en tierra a centenares de viajeros al no cambiar la hora
Según informa esta mañana Catalunya Ràdio centenares de usuarios de de la compañía aérea Clickair han denunciado que se han quedado sin vuelo en el aeropuerto de El Prat por cambios de horarios en los vuelos que la compañía no les ha comunicado.

Al parecer, la aerolínea no habría aplicado el cambio horario de verano y, como consecuencia, centenares de viajeros se han quedado en tierra.Los usuarios confiorman que ha habido un alud de reclamaciones y que hay casos de viajeros que aún son en destino, en capitales europeas, y a los que no les ofrecen un vuelo alternativo de vuelta a casa hasta el martes.

Sobretodo Bowie, si a Bowie le gusta una banda, ya pasó con Arcade Fire, sale por todas partes, es lo mejor que te puede pasar en cuestiones de mercado.
Me alegra que te guste el bueno de Travis (se me había escapado durante demasiado tiempo esta película, la vi hace unos días y quedé absolutamente prendado). Además, tenía a Burroughs y su pistolita demasiado quemado ya.

Jay-Z Deal Offers New Model for Music Sales

LOS ANGELES — In a move that reflects the anarchy sweeping the music business, the superstar rapper Jay-Z, who released his latest album to lukewarm sales five months ago, is on the verge of closing a deal with a concert promoter that rivals the biggest music contracts ever awarded.Jay-Z plans to depart his longtime record label, Def Jam, for a roughly $150 million package with the concert giant Live Nation that includes financing for his own entertainment venture, in addition to recordings and tours for the next decade. The pact, expected to be finalized this week, is the most expansive deal yet from Live Nation, which has angled to compete directly with the industry’s established music labels in a scrum over the rights to distribute recordings, sell concert tickets, market merchandise and control other aspects of artists’ careers.
As CD sales plunge, an array of players — including record labels, promoters and advertisers — are racing to secure deals that cut them in on a larger share of an artist’s overall revenue. Live Nation has already struck less comprehensive pacts with Madonna and U2.
In Jay-Z, Live Nation has lined up with a longtime star who, after toiling as a self-described hustler on the streets of Brooklyn, earned acclaim as a rapper and cachet as a mogul.
Live Nation’s core business has revolved around major rock and country tours, and with Jay-Z it is making an unexpected foray into hip-hop. The company is also placing an enormous wager on a performer who, like many others, has experienced declining record sales. (Last year’s “American Gangster” sold one million copies in the United States; “The Black Album,” from 2003, sold well over three million.)
But the arrangement would also position Live Nation to participate in a range of new deals with Jay-Z, one of music’s most entrepreneurial stars, whose past ventures have included the Rocawear clothing line, which he sold last year for $204 million, and the chain of 40/40 nightclubs.
Jay-Z, 38, whose real name is Shawn Carter, owes one more studio album to Def Jam, where he was president for three years before stepping down in December after he and the label’s corporate parent, Universal Music Group, could not agree on a more lucrative contract.
His first undertaking with Live Nation is his current 28-date tour with Mary J. Blige, his biggest live outing in more than three years. After that, Live Nation envisions integrating the marketing of all Jay-Z’s entertainment endeavors, including recordings, tours and endorsements.
“I’ve turned into the Rolling Stones of hip-hop,” Jay-Z said in a recent telephone interview.
The deal answers a question that had been circling through the rap world for months: Where would Jay-Z take his next corporate role? As part of the arrangement, Live Nation would finance the start-up of a venture that would be an umbrella for his outside projects, which are expected to include his own label, music publishing, and talent consulting and managing. Live Nation is expected to contribute $5 million a year in overhead for five years, with another $25 million available to finance Jay-Z’s acquisitions or investments, according to people in the music industry briefed on the agreement. The venture, to be called Roc Nation, will split profits with Live Nation.
The overall package for Jay-Z also includes an upfront payment of $25 million, a general advance of $25 million that includes fees for his current tour, and advance payment of $10 million an album for a minimum of three albums during the deal’s 10-year term, these people said. A series of other payments adding up to about $20 million is included in exchange for certain publishing, licensing and other rights. Jay-Z said Live Nation’s consolidated approach was in sync with the emerging potential “to reach the consumer in so many different ways right now.” He added: “Everyone’s trying to figure it out. I want to be on the front lines in that fight.”
The popularity of music downloads has revolutionized how music is consumed, and widespread piracy has contributed to an industry meltdown in which traditional album sales — composed mostly of the two-decades-old CD format — have slumped by more than a third since 2000. (The best seller in 2007, Josh Groban’s “Noël,” sold 3.7 million copies, compared with 9.9 million for the top album in 2000, according to Nielsen SoundScan.)
That has further pressured record-label executives to rewrite the economics of their business and step beyond the sale of albums in an attempt to wring revenue out of everything from ring tones to artist fan clubs.
Jay-Z said that his future as an artist could involve elevating the role of live performances, long a mixed bag even for popular rap acts.
“In a way I want to operate like an indie band,” he said. “Play the music on tour instead of relying on radio. Hopefully we’ll get some hits out of there and radio will pick it up, but we won’t make it with that in mind.”
Though sales for Jay-Z’s tour with Ms. Blige have been strong since it began on March 22, with almost all the early dates resulting in sold-out arenas, it is unclear when Live Nation could carry out other aspects of the deal. (Jay-Z said that he hoped to deliver his final album for Def Jam later this year.)
Critics of Live Nation, which lost nearly $12 million last year, predict that it would be difficult to turn a profit on the arrangement, given the continuing decline in record sales and the mixed track record of artist-run ventures. Shares in the company have suffered since October when Live Nation negotiated a reported $120 million deal with Madonna.
Michael Cohl, Live Nation’s chairman, said he was not worried. Though he declined to discuss terms of the Jay-Z arrangement, he said it did not require an increase in record sales to be profitable. “He could be doing more tours and doing great,” Mr. Cohl said. “There could be endorsements and sponsorships.” He added, “The whole is what’s important.”
He cited Jay-Z’s forays into a host of other businesses as a model for Live Nation. “What he’s done has kind of mirrored what we want to do and where we think we’re going.”
Some executives at major record labels have privately portrayed Live Nation’s artist deals as overly expensive retirement packages for stars past their prime.
Others disagree. “I’d much rather be in the business of marketing a superstar who cost me a lot of money than taking the 1-in-10, demonstrably failing crapshoot” of signing unknown talents, said Jeffrey Light, a Los Angeles entertainment attorney, referring to the traditional record company model.
But the dimensions of the competition could change if Live Nation begins vying for the same emerging artists that the labels hope to sign. Live Nation is negotiating with a Georgia rock act, the Zac Brown Band, after apparently wooing it away from an offer by Atlantic Records, according to music executives briefed on the talks.
Jay-Z, for his part, suggested that the string of stars to exit the major-label system would also signal to younger acts how to plot their careers. He said that rising artists will be thinking: “ ‘Something must be happening. Madonna did it, she’s not slow. Jay-Z, he’s not slow either.’ ”
