MARCH 2009 - A few words regarding our friends at Touch and Go / Quarterstick Records.
We're profoundly thankful for having a relationship with a label that treats musicians like human beings, that does business fairly and honestly, and has true punk spirit.
Unfortunately, the music industry and general economic climate has become really toxic for any label that does everything with a handshake, has no contracts, and doesn't make commercial albums. Touch and Go announced a few days ago that it will dramatically reduce the size of the label… while keeping all the catalog in print (around 400 releases) it will not be working on new albums for the foreseeable future.
Our biggest concern is the welfare of our friends and family in Chicago... the people at the label that have given us such support over multiple decades. We seriously fuckin' love them. As for Shipping News... we don't have a clear idea of what we will do with the album we've been writing. We are still rehearsing over the next few months and will be recording in the Fall. It's possible we'll make it here in Louisville and self-release it - or work with friends that have other small labels. Our goal is to remain committed and available to Touch and Go/Quarterstick for the duration of our band's life... and whatever way we move forward will be with their best interest in mind at all times. As for new material, Waits and his long time collaborator and wife, Kathleen Brennan, have begun writing new songs, which they plan to record this summer for an upcoming CD. (No release date at this time.)

_Steve Jones, de los Sex Pistols, se incorpora a los Stooges
El guitarrista de los Sex Pistols, Steve Jones, se incorpora a los Stooges en sustitución de Ron Asheton, quien falleció el 6 de enero. Iggy Pop ha declarado que habló con Jones, y si “había que buscar a otro guitarrista, él era el tipo al que había que llamar. El grupo sigue existiendo. Y no voy a decir nada más sobre esto”. Los Stooges se reunieron en 2007 para publicar el álbum The Weirdness y ofrecer diversos conciertos._

Jack White ya tiene tres bandas en activo. A White Stripes y Raconteurs, ahora se les une Dead Weather. White, que toca la batería y canta, está acompañado por Alison Mosshart (The Kills), Jack Lawrence (Raconteurs) y Dean Fertita (Queens of the Stone Age/Raconteurs). El primer álbum de este supergrupo, Horehound, lo publicará Third Man en junio. Como anticipo, ya se ha publicado un single, que en la cara A contiene la canción “Hang You Up From The Heavens” y en la B una versión del “Are Friends Electrics?” de Gary Numan._

Spiritualized will perform their classic album Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space live in its entirety at the Royal Festival Hall, London on Monday 12th October 2009.

This very special show will feature a choir, string and horn sections and special guests. It is 12 years since the release of this album set the summer of 1997 on fire. To tie in with the live performance, Sony Music will be releasing an expanded Legacy Edition of “Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space” in October with added content and new packaging.

This show is part of the Don’t Look Back season from British festival and concert promoters All Tomorrow’s Parties. ATP has been running Don't Look Back since 2005, curating yearly seasons of artists performing famous and/or acclaimed albums in a live setting in original album order. Past years have included stunning performances from The Stooges ('Funhouse'), Belle & Sebastian ('If You're Feeling Sinister'), Gang Of Four ('Entertainment'), Ennio Morricone (classic film soundtracks), Slint ('Spiderland') and Sonic Youth; their series of performances of their classic 'Daydream Nation' earning the title of Time Out magazine's Gig Of The Year 2007. Don't Look Back has expanded in recent years to include concerts in mainland Europe, Australia and the USA. This year’s UK season also includes shows from Devo, Young Marble Giants and Sleep.

Regina Spektor se ha soltado la melena y ha dejado de ser una chica tímida. Próximamente publicará su mmm quinto?? álbum Far que cuenta con la friolera de cuatro productores, y que cuatro (para bien y para mal): Mike Elizondo (Fiona Apple, Maroon 5 ), Dave Khane (el que produjo Begin To Hope), Garret "Jacknife" Lee (U2, REM ) y... al loro... Jeff Lynne ( No creo que necesite presentación ). Siendo mega fan de esta tia desde el 11:11 (me lo pillé por Cdbaby) estoy ciertamente acojonao con este próximo álbum. A ver a qué suena…
Por su parte, la rusa residente en NY, se paseará por Europa en julio. El día 9 exactamente estará en el sueco Hultsfred Festival y según su myspace estará haciendo más festivales y conciertos de sala en Europa. Esta también será carne de FIB????

Bono se ha mostrado muy descontento con las descargas ilegales de música. Aunque ha reconocido que a él no le afectan negativamente, se ha lamentado de que destruyen la industria musical. Asegura que la gente piensa que gana excesivo dinero, y no están equivocados: “No ha lugar a que las ricas estrellas del rock pidan más dinero, pero alguien debe luchar por los compañeros artistas, porque esto es una locura. La música se ha convertido en algo como el agua del grifo, algo utilitario, cuando para mí es sagrada, estoy ofendido”. Finalmente, pronostica que habrá una radical revisión de la ley, todo cambiará cuando las descargas de programas de televisión y películas sean tan sencillas de realizar como las de las canciones, entonces “alguien llamará a la policía”._

Hoy en el diari Avui viene una noticia con el titulo siguiente:
"Cohen Vol Venir" - Cohen quiere venir
Es una noticia en referencia su guitarrista, Javier Mas (de Aragon), el cual dice las ganas que tiene Cohen de tocar en territorio Español y que se está estudiando la posibilidad de dar 7 conciertos por aquí, pero tal y como está la crisis, de momento sólo es un idea… Bueno, esto son buenas noticias porque quizas no sean siete pero bueno yo creo que alguno sí que caerá...
