Made Possible marks a palpable departure for The Bad Plus on a few fronts. Layers of synth and electronic drum sounds can be heard prowling amid the trio's signature acoustic palette. Also, whereas the group's new material typically gets a thorough road test before being recorded, these songs were brought in with looser expectations and even more potent possibilities. And for the first time since 2005's Suspicious Activity?, the band chose to record far away from its Minnesota motherland, holing up instead at a remote studio in upstate New York.
The resulting nine tracks — eight originals plus a loving nod to the late Paul Motian ("Victoria") — showcase everything this groundbreaking trio is capable of: pulse-pounding anthems, bright-eyed melancholia, bold juxtapositions, tunefully mathy contortions and a masterful sense of song. "Seven Minute Mind" and "Wolf Out" are streaked with heady minimalism. "For My Eyes Only" and the epic "In Stitches" highlight the group's vulnerable, ambitiously emotive core. "Re-Elect That" honors and extends the rich bloodline of American avant jazz, while "I Want to Feel Good Part Two" offers an irresistible two-beat that's equally suitable for a postmodernist time capsule or a church picnic. As ever, the sum effect is a welcome demolition of what listeners might expect from an instrumental trio.

No sé si conoceis a esta formación de Madrid, 24 Frames. Un amigo los recomendó por FB y me han dejado con el culo torcío. Algunos momentos pueden recordar al Sun Ra más accesible y otros incluso a los Heliocentrics. Una auténtica maravilla.

Tenía ganas de llegar a casa y hacerme eco de esta gran pérdida. Sín duda, ha muerto uno de los grandes colosos del saxo de estos últimos años. Sus trabajos con su cuarteto son de lo más intenso en el campo de free jazz afroamericano. Siempre que me ponía suis discos, era como dejar una puerta mental abierta hacia sitios insospechados.

Pues sí, este verano en Madrid tocó un huevo de veces, y con distintas formaciones (en trío con Javier Colina y Nirankhar Khalsa, por ejemplo). Me jodió bastante porque siempre me pillaba fuera y me las perdí todas, por eso a esta fui sin pensarlo. Y la verdad es que estuvo genial. No hacía ni un año que lo vi por primera vez en el mismo sitio, y joder, impresionó verle tan hecho polvo, andando con un bastón. Esta vez estaba bastante más fino, aunque es cierto que está muy mayor, pero ahí sigue tocando la trompeta y marcando con 5 tumbadoras. Y la banda tremenda: Caramelo al piano, Alain Pérez al bajo y cantando, y Kiki Ferrer a la batería. Mucho nivel y a todos se les vio pasarlo de puta madre.

The music of Lean Left is extrovert, energetic, powerful and inclusive but also confrontational and provocative: where rhythm, noise, melody and harmony melt together in perfect union. In two tracks “Live at Café Oto” captures one moment of high powered, highly varied improvisation. Pretty much the dream ticket for those who like their live music raw, hard and violently soulful.

Voy a ver si tengo suerte por aquí con la re-petición. Hace un mes comenté en el hilo de peticiones que si te metes en el bandcamp de "24 frames" (que me los descubristeis en este hilo y me parecen la leche) te puedes descargar su primer trabajo, "Mise en abyme"

Esta noche, en el Jamboree, he visto y disfrutado a Dexter Gordon. Lo que pasa es que iba disfrazado de blanco y con otro nombre (Bob Sands) pero era para despistar al pardillo, pero a mi no me la pegan….era el gran Dexter.
