Jimmy Smith ha influenciado a una constelación de organistas de Jazz como Jimmy McGriff, Brother Jack McDuff, Richard Groove Holmes, Joey De Francesco o Larry Goldings, tanto como a teclistas de Rock como Jon Lord, Brian Auger o Keith Emerson, o, más recientemente bandas como the Beastie Boys y Medeski, Martin & Wood.
Para este tributo, el icono Fred Welsey al Trombone, uno de los padrinos de la historia del soul, el jazz y el funk, y durante mucho tiempo director musical de la banda de James Brown, se une al proyecto.
En el órgano la nueva estrella Leonardo Corradi , 20 años, elegido mejor teclista de Hammond en el 2010 por la revista JAZZIT y que ha compartido scenario con Antonio Sanchez, Dave Liebman o Rick Margitza por nombrar algunos.
Estos increibles músicos son acompañados por el sorprendente Tony Match en la batería. Parisino que ha liderado algunas bandas incluida la que acompaña al legendario saxo tenor Ernie Watts! Este tributo es una perfecta inmersión en el sonido de Jimmy Smith!!! -

Sometimes it can be a challenge to rise above the flood of interesting music available in the new-release (let alone reissue) coffers and bring a vibe to the table that’s robust enough to grab one by the throat, offering seamless introspection within past and present. Black Host, a New York quintet nominally led by in-demand drummer Gerald Cleaver, is an improvising ensemble prepared to do just that. Cleaver is joined here by pianist Cooper-Moore, alto saxophonist Darius Jones, bassist Pascal Niggenkemper and guitarist Brandon Seabrook on a program of eight original compositions that blend modern jazz, free music, psych, post-punk and electrified noise with painstaking detail and heady abandon. The historically obsessed might name-check Albert Ayler (especially the groups with pianist Bobby Few and guitarist Henry Vestine), the early ‘70s music of Norwegians Jan Garbarek and Terje Rypdal, or Gary Windo with Carla Bley, but Black Host present dynamic, incisive and utterly contemporary music. Life in the Sugar Candle Mines is the group’s first record – hopefully one among several – a reverb-drenched and incisive stew of rhapsodic piano, searing alto and fractured guitar over rhythms that are alternately chunky and airy, rendered with a “live” energy that cuts through the cones on your speakers.

Sí, sí, es uno de los grandes nombres del free. Si puedes dale una escucha a "Touchin' on Trane", con William Parker y Rashied Ali. Un clásico.

Es el último de Wadada no? No lo he escuchado, pero cierto que leí buenas crótocas- A este sí que lo controlo, y hasta lo vi una vez en el Jazzaldia de hará 3 o 4 años en un conciertazo bastante brutal… me lo apunto.

A ver qué tal, me gustaron muchísimo cuando me los descubristeis por el foro. Muchas ganas de verlos en directo, no ha coincidido nunca que haya podido ir a verlos en una visita por Madrid.

Recorded during the Sonic Protest Festival at the Centre Barbara Fleury Goutte d’Or in Paris. On April 14th, 2012 Terrie of The Ex has collaborated with numerous people over the years, getting inspiration from, and absorbing all elements of, all styles of music, but continuing to be raw and unpolished. The Norwegian hard-hitting avant-garde drummer, Paal Nilssen-Love, although from very different background, is a soul with a similar attitude.
This CD is hard free-style with a punk attitude, but with the complexity of the most experimental sides of avant-garde jazz. It’s powerful, speedy, chaotic, but with a high degree of interplay and charm. Improvised, yes, but never out of focus.
