I'm planning a trip to Kazakhstan next month. I'll be staying in Almaty for about a week and want to explore the nearby mountains and maybe do a day trip to the lakes. I've heard that renting a car is the best way to get around outside the city. Any recommendations on rental companies that are reliable and won't rip off tourists? Also, do I need an international driving permit?
