A.K.A.C.O.D. - Happiness
@27zvzfsi:
Former Morphine saxophonist Dana Colley collaborates with Bourbon Princess’ front woman / bassist Monique Ortiz and Larry Dersch of Binary System on A.K.A.C.O.D’s debut record, Happiness. Creating a darkly psychedelic sound that is sensual, cinematic and otherworldly, Colley & Co pay homage to the “low rock” sound created by his former band while pushing musical boundaries and forging new ground.
Fusing Colley’s unique electric guitar influenced baritone saxophone playing with experimental percussion and an unforgiving voice that compares to such greats as Jim Morrison, Nico and Patti Smith, A.K.A.C.O.D, have been packing rooms and garnering rave reviews in their native Boston for their mesmerizing live shows.

AFCGT (A-Frames + Climax Golden Twins) - Self Titled CD-R [Fire Breathing Turtle 2008]
http://www.mediafire.com/?wxnhxglmyjy@t0jey4cn:
Holy shit, this is fucking great! And who would have ever thought that the A Frames and the Climax Golden Twins would make a record together? And who would have imagined that it would be this fucking awesome? It's all superlatives and all expletives in describing the first collaborative production from AFCGT. The A Frames had managed to raise some eyebrows here through their post-punk appropriations of early Wire and early Fall, but the vocals had always been something of a miss for them especially on the last Sub Pop album. But in working with the AQ-endorsed Climax Golden Twins who are a band accustomed to delivering exemplary instrumentals from literally every corner of the avant-rock landscape, the A Frames have the permission to shut the hell up and let the Climax Golden Twins dump the fucking kitchen sink all over A Frames rhythmic swagger. The album opens with a tumultuous blast of glue-huffing noise-rock, sort of like a fistfight between the Butthole Surfers and the Sun City Girls. Soon after, a series of bad-ass Birthday Party / Oxbow swamp rock riffs explode with spindly space-age gamelan leads; elsewhere, the No Wave ghosts of R.L. Crutchfield-era DNA emerge with of jagged chops across the guitar pick-ups, bloodied fingers and all. Fuck, it all sounds fucking great!

Fursaxa - Kobold Moon [Sylph 2008]
@2cclkc60:
Limited factory-pressed ‘real’ CD album from Tara Burke aka Fursaxa, packaged in marbled, psychedelic card slipcases and wraparound inner sleeves and released on her own label. Recorded in Pennsylvania and Florida and mastered by Norm Fetter and Michael Gibbons of Bardo Pond. The whole disc has a heavy Judee Sill feel that hasn’t really been so apparent in her back catalogue until now but the combination of bells, hypnagogic choral settings and distant, sunbleached fidelity immediately conjures a similar dark, devotional air to Sill’s masterful “The Donor”. As usual with Fursaxa there is a heavy, ritualistic feel to much of the material, but some of it is so dilated and weirdly-arranged - with hypnotic, F/X mutated spoken word and huge sighs of almost Penderecki/Crumb-esque vocal smears - that it touches on the outer-space hysteria of Euro-heads like Zweistein or Catherine Ribeiro and Alpes more than any contemporary US ‘drone’, albeit refracted through early music and madrigal stylings. It all ends with one of the most spell-binding movements in her entire catalogue, with a chaos of vocal hiss functioning as a long, slow pan through the kind of fog-bound territory previously mapped by Andrew Chalk and Christoph Heemann as Mirror. One of her darkest and most otherworldly set of space-whispers to date. Highly recommended.

Pan Sonic - Kuvaputki DVD [2008]
@s0mcken1:
American digital artist Edward Quist hooked up with the mighty Pan Sonic for this, their first ever DVD release, developing accompanying imagery for the duo's monumental experiments in synthesis. The main feature is the forty-minute audiovisual album dating back to 1999, combining Quist's cathode ray visions with Pan Sonic's uncompromising electronic sound world. The first thing you'll notice is just how well the two elements fit together: the black and white abstraction of the film ties into the extremes of the music - it's at once grounded in principals of self-restriction and minimalism but always encroaches on overwhelming the viewer/listener. In fact, sufferers of photo sensitive epilepsy will need to steer clear: in its more frantic moments the strobing can be fairly terrorising, even hypnotic. Amongst the flashes of raw electricity and grainy waveforms you might find yourself surprised by the emergence of actual live performance footage from Vainio and Vaisanen, whose furtive knob turning looks positively surgical, in a setting that's somewhere between CCTV and a phantom broadcast from some distant, Hebridean outpost with a faulty transmitter. The music is predictably wonderful, revisiting the advanced sound designs of a time around Pansonic's album, A. The combined effect of the viewing and listening experience might be compared to an analogue approximation of Ryoji Ikeda's Formula DVD, albeit with wraith-like human shapes occasionally rising from the tangled circuitry, reminding you that this is in fact a tour documentary at heart. Highly recommended.
