For the new album, Liars and Prayers, Thalia has expanded upon her touring band of the last few years of Daniel Coughlin (drums) and David Curry (viola, trumpet) to fill out the sound with the bass and piano of Winston Braman (Consonant, Sherperdess, Fuzzy) and Mel Lederman (Victory at Sea). Liars and Prayers is the masterwork of her thus far impressive career. Her voice and songs have never been stronger and the full band and the recording by Andrew Schneider (Unsane, Cave In) allow her to combine the delicacy of the arrangements of her trio with the force that was her band Come. The very moving “Body Memory” is a poignant example of this perfect synthesis.

INDIAN JEWELRY, who recoiled back to the oil soaked mud of Houston, just finished up their second full length "FREE GOLD!" It is an astonishing album, completely filled with pop singles. Yes, Indian Jewelry are still pissed, but this album has some serious wall-bangers!

Como no me fío un pelo de esta peña, dicho por supuesto con simpatía, he indagado en lo que se cuenta de Indian Jewelry y en last.fm pone esto: "Indian Jewelry is a group from Houston, Texas that is known for its droning vision music…". the ocean collective - precambrian (metal blade, 2008)

pesados, monolíticos, con gargantas de garrote… mezclan esquemas tipiquísimos del género (eso me mola) de manera brutalísma con pasajes llenos de arreglos y poderío épico (a veces se pasan de horteras). el disco está chulo. fans de los neurosis más borricos pueden probar.

New on Release The Bats, this split 7" boasts one track each from Californian duo Amanda and Bethany, of Pocahaunted and Belgian solo noisemaker Orphan Fairytale, aka Eva Van Deuran. In the past 12 months or so Pocahaunted have risen to become one of the most talked about lo-fi/noise/psych acts around, releasing split LPs with Christina Carter and scoring themselves gigs opening for Sonic Youth. Their contribution to this release, 'Warpaint' features the kind of murky guitar and vocal haze that's characterised their most readily accessible work, leaving their music sounding like some weird pagan ceremony administrated by Grouper. Meanwhile, the Orphan Fairytale contribution 'Made By Mermaids' is a very different recording altogether, drawing on homemade and hotwired electronics to fire off primordial circuit-bent noise signals far into the ether. Two great sides, and given Pocahaunted's current cache, this isn't the sort of thing that's likely to be around for very long. Highly recommended.

LA metal head Bobb Bruno play electric drums on their tracks in the past, but the results of this album is something entirely different than anything they attempted before. It is less Bobb playing drums with Pocahaunted, than it is an entirely new entity operating in perfect unity. Dubbed out and drenched in the grime of the streets, Island Diamonds features the same vocal come downs and chord repetition/progression to infinity that P-haunt is know for, but with the addition of almost (dare I say) “danceable” beats. This is the record that Amanda and Bethany have always wanted to make, the crown jewel of an epic sistership. Rub soap in your eye make it red so you look raw. Recorded/mixed/mastered over a period of three months, and the effort/time shows; Pocahaunted’s most developed/realized work yet; features additional saxophone riffage by Andy Spore (of Raccoo-oo-oon, Youth of the Beast, Pukers) mastered by James Plotkin.
