Before writing the bulk of his legendary canon of plays and sonnets, William Shakespeare penned the charmingly flawed revenge tragedy Titus Andronicus. Due to its laughable bombast and over-the-top violence, its influence on contemporary culture has emerged mainly in dark comedies like Sweeney Todd or "South Park", and many Shakespeare scholars still balk at seriously analyzing the work. Of course, all these factors make the play a perfect moniker for an indie band as violent, overblown, and irreverent as Glen Rock, New Jersey's Titus Andronicus.
Despite its title's implied politeness, The Airing of Grievances qualifies more as existentialism wrapped in an anti-suburban screed. Frontman Patrick Stickles howls with anguish way beyond his 22 years, often cramming lyrics into tight spaces just to make sure he gets the last word in. Plus, as anyone who's heard five seconds of this band already knows, he sounds like Conor Oberst screaming from the bowels of hell. However, to peg these guys as "emo" would be sadly inaccurate. Sure, torn diary page scribbles clutter Airing's heart-on-sleeve, fist-in-air anthems, but the drama's more Boss than Bright Eyes, fueled by blue collar frustration and, most notably, beer.

a mí el disco me gusta bastante. Y Greenhouse / Stretch estará entre mis canciones del año: el día futuro en que un genio de la programación codifique el "duende", las máquinas interpretarán el flamenco de esta forma

For this gorgeous release, Kranky's Jessica Bailiff joins Belgian songwriter Annelies Monsere for a collaboration over four tracks of adventurous songwriting. The odd, zoned-out vocals of 'Common Ground' are set against a background noise of buzzing synthesizer tones and sombre cello strokes plotting out unfinished melodies. You might compare it to the droning folk songs of Fursaxa, or Islaja's experimental, misshapen songs. After a silky a cappella beginning, 'Let Time Breathe' accumulates a distorted chord sequence played out on electric guitar, giving a greater shape to the song than the unearthly drones of that first piece. The duo have a closer run in with a more recognisable kind of folk with the sinister, stop-start dynamics of 'Like Yesterday', held together by sparse acoustic guitar plucks and tentative string swells. The EP comes to an all-too premature close on 'Shadow', a beautiful - if surprisingly conventional - ballad, with bright synth oscillations cutting through the moroseness of the vocals and those bedraggled acoustic guitar strums. Here's hoping these two get around to recording a full album soon. Absolutely gorgeous.

en primera escucha, este disco tumba. touch and go versión no-wave. muy psicopáticos, disonantes (recuerdan a nomeansno o a victim's family) y con un sonido correoso y rico en experimentación (table of elements es lo que tiene).

A Broken Consort - Crow Autumn

I think this should be a pretty apt example of why Richie Skelton raised so many eyebrows: he can play so many instruments, with the utmost sense of dedication/evocation (also present in his titles). Add, once more, the sense of perfect layering/sound placement (that nevertheless maintains a spontaneity and ‘mantric’ relevance); on top of all, protected (and “inextricably linked”) by some of the most exquisite packaging + artwork. 'Crow Autumn' is part of Skelton’s trilogy released about last Christmas; fittingly immersed in thick, visionary fogs. Maybe, just maybe - his best piece yet.
