Festival - Come, Arrow, Come! (Language of Stone, 2008)
@39qmburu:
To say the word “Festival” is to summon myriad imagery: revelers hoarsely singing songs over jugs of wine, dancing, sharing, smiling, laughing, and enjoying that rare sense of community that has, as we move further and further into the 21st century, been replaced by insularity. But is the imagery of the festival lost? Antiquated? Romanticized? Yes, of course. There are, however, threads of that quilt left behind - captured periodically on record as a dusty reminder of the human animal’s potential for interconnectivity. In the realm of family, in the voices of siblings, you can not only sense the connection between performers in the studio, but you can hear the sympathetic vibration of vocal cords united by the glue of genetics.
Such is the case on Language of Stone’s recent release by Festival, Come Arrow Come! The songs are stitched together lovingly and admirably by the band’s core duo, sisters Lindsay and Alexis. Despite a lack of overt musical complexity, the sisters’ charming blend of chamber pop, folk, and psychadelia finds its strength in blood.

Lights - Lights (Language Of Stone, 2008)
@39qmburu:
"Brooklyn's Lights enchant on their self-titled Language of Stone debut. Produced by Espers' Greg Weeks, the three-girl harmonizing (by Sophia Knapp, Linnea, and…Wizard Smoke) combined with forest spirit mythology and gothic undertones make for deliciously psychedelic, and sometimes dark, treat. Like being stuck inside the Wicker Man and actually enjoying it." othermusic
"Lights are Sophia Knapp (guitar, vox), Linnea Vedder (drums, vox), Wizard Smoke (light show, vox, jew’s harp) and Andy MacLeod (bass) (formerly of White Magic). Lights toured in 2005 with Jana Hunter and in 2007 with Bright Black Morning Light and Mariee Sioux as part of the Crystal Totem Tour.
The album ‘Lights’ was recorded and mixed at Hexham Head by Espers's Greg Weeks." inertia
“Here, for every virginal vocal harmony a vampiric riff lies in wait, each dulcet tone risks transformation into snarling beast, and ghost-like apparitions infest the rafters, unseen but duly felt. Lights embody the mixture of pop beauty and psychedelic horror that has compelled millions to shiver in fright and ecstasy. Join us.” lightshttp://www.mediafire.com/?jycd2mnikvnEssie Jain - The Inbetween (Ba Da Bing, 2008)

@39qmburu:
The sophomore release from London/New York folk chanteuse Essie Jain is a dark and churning affair, not light year's away from her arresting debut, but with a bit more confidence and spring in its step, as well as more lovely piano. Jain manages to be sad and serious and playful too on the record's ten timeless tracks, and her growing comfort in the studio allows for her haunting alto to really shine, relying less on the multi-tracked vocals that were a staple of the debut. A great album throughout.

goliath bird eater - black pentagon (ruralfaune 2008)
@39qmburu:
"New directions in spectral doom from Mr Bobb Bruno with help from Pocahaunted. Goliath Bird Eater are endlessly reverbed vox smeared into washes of tone while single chord doom/fuzz jams move from wasted refusals of any notion of forward momentum through to psychoactive repeat-minimalism. Edition of 77 copies with a whole bunch of alternative covers included." volcanic tongue
"Goliath Bird Eater…In simple terms, “Pentagon Black” is a trio of dense, metal-inspired drone pieces. But there’s more to it than that: The assistance from Rafe Mandel (The For Carnation) and the Pocahaunted girls on “Loop of Pine”, the mid-song silence breaks in “Shiranui”, and the title track, which could be an alternate soundtrack for the intro of Holy Mountain. All of these elements make “Pentagon Black” transcend all things drone and metal. As a matter of fact, I take the first sentence of this paragraph back. This record comprises a trio of complex sonic rituals bearing subtle hints of doom, drone, metal, Slint, Jodorowsky and you fuckin’ name it! It’s a damn great record, and it’s got some of the slickest cover art ever to grace a cd-r! Highly recommended!!! 9/10" foxy digitalishttp://sharebee.com/4cff013dGracias a la gente de: http://calmintrees.blogspot.com/

15 - The Joy of Repetition@17dfyaru:
Heretical new music for solo guitar composed and performed by the radical maverick Marc Ribot, who has worked with everyone from Elvis Costello, Maryanne Faithful and Tom Waits to Bill Frisell and Sun Ra. Conceived as impossible etudes and exercises on a variety of finger busting guitar techniques, this astonishing suite will forever change your concept of what the guitar is capable (or not capable) of. Also included are a variety of compositions for solo guitar, making this the definitive collection of Ribot’s expressive and virtuosic solo music. Twisted, mangled and tortured, this instrumental tour-de-force is musical sacrilege at its best.

Emanuele Errante - Humus (Somnia, 2008)

Alexander Tucker - Portal (ATP Recordings, 2008)
@lx4mtsce:
On 9th June 2008 ATP Recordings will release the third album from Alexander Tucker, Portal. The album will be issued on CD and LP, featuring artwork from Tucker (see above).
"Texts of this nature usually require the author to make fashionable or wilfully oblique references to artists past and present. Portal, the third Alexander Tucker long player for ATP Recordings is a work of such bewitching splendour that any such comparisons would read like hyperbole, thus doing it a great disservice. Even Tucker's Previous albums (Old Fog and Furrowed Brow) seem like stepping stones in the wake of Portal. But if we must draw comparisons then lets say Chicago musician/composer Jim O' Rourke both are unparalleled in their pairing of the 20th Century avant-garde techniques of composers like Stockhausen and Steve Reich with the archaic sounding free-folk of John Fahey, Robbie Basho and Loren Connors.
The late Karlheinz Stockhausen envisaged music where "instead of very precisely formed single notes there are little complexes little crystalline blooms that pass through a register form". During Portal, Tucker's finger-picked guitar lines become indistinguishable from the more traditional string arrangements and voice. These melodic clusters interweave like the paths incurved by a figure skater. This is still to say nothing of Tucker's voice, which sounds as if it is emanating from a ghost channel on an ancient mixing desk rather than appear sung on top of the epochal arrangements. It's a voice comparable perhaps to Meddle era David Gilmour or John Martyn on Solid Air. These are big claims of course but then Portal is a work of such extraordinary majesty that even trying to surmise it in words seems like a heresy. If you disagree after listening, then I'm sorry to inform you that you are spiritually dead."

Yo nunca los he oido mucho, así que no puedo opinar. Aunque es cierto que siempre reciben buenas críticas, no solo de PF.
