Crystal Stilts - Crystal Stilts [2008]

@312gpork:
The Crystal Stilts are moody-sounding fuckers who make fabulous stripped-down garage-pop. Their mix-and-match post-punk ditties manage to sound both affected and effective at the same time; they’re weirdly life-affirming and very fun. You want to dance when you hear them– dance with a furrowed brow, maybe, but move around nonetheless. Singer Brad Hargett is from Brooklyn by way of Florida but sounds like he’s from Manchester by way of Slough. The main thing I wonder when I listen to Crystal Stilts is why is it so hard to make exceptional garage-pop like this? I mean, how hard can it be to plonk out a little la-la-loo-lee number on your $80 Sears guitar or your beat-up Casio and then record the thing in the bathroom in one take? It’s been stated in ways both eloquent (David Fair’s brilliant and oft-quoted manifesto “How to Play Guitar”) and cheesy as heck (Bono’s “three chords and the truth” which he lifted from Harland Howard re: Hank Williams), but should it not by definition be simple to do this?
Of course it is not…http://sharebee.com/37169b5f -

Robedoor - Shrine To The Possessor (Music Fellowship, 2008)

@27ed8qcj:
New batch of brutal minimalism from Robedoor on their first vinyl full length, Shrine to the Possessor. This one is pure darkness - no light, no air, just tortured souls and echoed cries. Three epic droning processionals built from the heaviest, thickest low-end tones. The sound of indentured servants from a scorched dustbowl wasteland. Caveman aesthetic pushed to its limits by recording to eight analog channels. Recorded by Bobb Bruno at Bored Fortress HQ in Eagle Rock, CA. Artwork by Andy Spore. Includes silkscreened 11x17 poster. Limited and numbered to 500.

The Folk Spectre - The Blackest Medicine [Woodsist 2008]
@1gb6f95n:
Solo tunes by Pete Nolan of the Magik Markers, GHQ, Vanishing Voice, Virgin Eye Blood Brothers, etc. This is music from the American underground. The feeling is dark and fucked up and somehow sublime. A solid statement of loner home-made goodness. A pop statement from behind a veil of dirt.

@Zackchill:1xxpria0:
Echenle la culpa a Island In The Sun. -

Yo no estaría tan seguro, en el nuevo disco iba a haber algún tema cantado por Pat Wilson, batería de Weezer y guitarra y voz de The Special Godness

http://www.vimeo.com/446045@12e7w9xe:
The mysterious Tucson local, Nobunny, is certainly hitting a chord that's turning ears all over into fuzzy, pink, and protruding embarrassments. Although, he's been kicking around the sud bucket for longer that most realize, it's seems like only recently has he poked his rabbit head up for the rest to take notice. Like a pop machine spewing out a small rivulet of hits, he is not necessarily onto something completely new. Both GG Allin, and The Ramones were touching on the same fizzy button years ago, and the formula of bubblegum fuzz is one oldest socks in the sack, but either way it's good to see it's back. Nobunny's ability to deliver blithesome songs with a maddened and frothy smile is simply brilliant. His bouncy and rollicking style conjures images of dirty bubbles rising over a landscape of unkempt, and insanely catchy hooks that will have the stuffiest of the arm folding camp dancing and acting like idiots within the first couple of chords

Esto creo que no estaba posteado, se lo he visto a Toxinho hoy y me he acordado. La verdad es que recuerdo haberlo escuchado en su momento y no debió de hacerme mucha gracia porque desapareció de mi lista de reproducción. Voy a darle otra oportunidad.

High Places - 03/07 - 09/07
@38xmxs2v:
The Brooklyn-based duo High Places are most often compared to Beat Happening, a band cherished for their regression– into musical primitivism, adolescent sexuality, and any other condition that twenty- and thirtysomethings bemoan the loss of in therapy. High Places' indulgence in nursery rhymes aside, the kinship is mostly an ideological one: Like Beat Happening, they exult in the simple.
03/07 - 09/07, a collection of the band's first 7" and stray compilation tracks (released through the mp3 subscription service eMusic), shows a group whose comfort zone isn't the folky imperative, but heady, hippyish imprecision. The songs here are almost all identical: polyrhythmic miniatures built by small drums and shakers, clouded by blankets of echo and reverb; deliberately basic structures; short, and in their own way, catchy and pretty. Rhythms suggest provinces a step removed from where other white, arty urbanites tend to dwell: There are flashes of soca, reclined bounces that remind me of Indian music, and though "Sandy Feat"'s swing could be Tom Petty's "American Girl" or David Bowie's "Modern Love", they inflect it they way Brazilian bands like Os Mutantes did (or Paul Simon on Rhythm of the Saints).
High Places' trunk-rattling impulses are juxtaposed with a spacious, almost tranquil atmosphere, with Rob Barber's percussion chiming and floating rather than physically hitting, and Mary Pearson's sweetly flat vocals layered to the point that her lyrics often become indistinguishable. That blur makes High Places' music hypnotic: Pearson chatters away like a light-headed kid on the playground on one song and intones a mantra on the next, and it's only then that you notice how both forms operate on the same principle: repetition induces calm. (Full disclosure: Pearson's sister is a former Pitchfork employee.)
Pearson's vocals and the duo's lyrics are charmingly coquettish: She reduces falling in love to "Oh, you're a pretty boy, a pretty boy" and writes letters to Martians. "Jump In", penned for Pearson's Michigan elementary school, is so full of encouragement that it scans like the transcription of a guidance counselor or junior minister. "Canary" apologizes to animals displaced by ecological warfare-- "we really messed up." The sentiments are frank, but I out them for three reasons: There's nothing wrong with being positive, the band's confident enough to handle it, and they make me happy.
"Universe"'s lyric makes this clear: "It takes a lot of guts to be a little baby in this place." The idea of returning to infancy might resonate as a dippy bohemian nightmare, but in a society where moderate cynicism is considered a higher road to intelligence than acceptance and curiosity, and where sarcasm is considered a social reflex, you'd be hard pressed to argue with them-- it does take guts.

Dert "The West Side Of The Moon"

Jackson Conti (Madlib + "Mamao" Conti) "Sujinho"
