    Benjamin Wetherill - Laura

    http://rapidshare.com/files/127526743/Bendzi.rar

    @2p41q3o9:

    Recorded in a disused 19th-century palace on the outskirts of Budapest, Benjamin Wetherill’s first album captures the intimacy of a delicate Folk idiom along with the innovation of original technique and approach. Wetherill, a Leeds native who has been making his own music for almost a decade, plays intricate fingerpicked guitar passages, and sings with a lilting style unlike anybody recording today. A startling listen for anyone looking for truly talented musicians wholly focused on their own vision.

    But, why Budapest? Enter Jeremy Barnes, A Hawk and a Hacksaw's genius songwriter, who heard Wetherill while touring and offered to produce his debut album. Barnes enlisted his Hun Hangar Ensemble of Hungarian musicians to assist in the recording, and they have delecately expanded Wetherill's songs to include a feather orchestra of light touches and small accents.

    The result is Laura, an album as emotional as it is detailed and fragile. He doesn't sound like Nick Drake. He doesn't sound like John Fahey. He's not, God forbid, "freak folk." Rather, Benjamin Wetherill is making true, original music in a manner never quite done before, and the effect is startling.

  • Jasper TX - Black Sleep [Miasmah, 2008]

    @se8c0cd3:

    This is the fifth full-length release by Swedish musician, Dag Rosenqvist aka Jasper TX. Black Sleep, in a way, feels like the album he has been building up to for some time now, as if all his previous experiences in creating haunting, oft-beautiful soundscapes have been harvested and fine-tuned. Originally conceived as one continuous track, Black Sleep is no random collection of songs – it is one work, one statement. Ambitious as it may be, it's impossible to deny its resounding success. As is often the case with Jasper TX's music, the guitar plays a prominent role. This album sees every conceivable sound caressed and tortured from the instrument, from the romantic and direct chimes of "Pt. III" to the distant whisper of "Pt. IV." Rosenqvist states Oren Ambarchi, Jóhann Jóhannsson, Arvo Pärt and Tim Hecker amongst his influences – something that gives some insight into the sound and scale of this release. Impossible to explain in simple terms, comparisons could also be made to Deathprod, with sounds slowly emerging and disappearing into thick clouds of murky warmth. Black Sleep is also akin to a symphony – its orchestra made from guitars, pianos and synthesizers instead of the usual strings and brass. This release is possibly one of Rosenqvist's darkest moments, its bleakness somewhat in tribute to the soundtracks and visual artistry of David Lynch's Mulholland Drive. This is music for rainy days spent indoors, looking out towards a vacant street while tracing the build up and release of condensation droplets. This release is a stand-out for the Miasmah label and will undoubtedly be remembered as Jasper TX's most concise and accomplished album to date.

    Pocahaunted - Mirror Mics LP (Weird Forest, 2008)

    @se8c0cd3:

    The hardest working ladies in show business are back! Pocahaunted offer up two side long siren excursions into the otherworldy plains. On "One Another" our enchanted twosome ride a cindering tapestry of guitar string propelled by other-worldly beats of oblivion. And "Sister Calypso".. a hauting ode to the lovestruck daughter of Atlas or uncanny caribbean sea breeze lullabye that transmogrifies into full blown tropical thunder? Who can say? This dynamic duo is on a roll! Likes: Billy Joel, cuss words, candy corn, diamonds and furs, psychic connections, african percussion, and kombucha. Dislikes: flat tires, the ocean, and silent movies. Extra skronk and skree provided by Andy Spore and Bobb Bruno. Label art by B&A. Beautiful full color covers with artwork by Olga Balema.

    Kria Brekkan - Wildering 7" (2008)

    @2ql0h7di:

    Following the reactions to Kria and Avey's album last year (befuddlement, disappointment, outrage, malaise) this 7" sees the former Mum-ster in full form again. Steeped in creepy ambience with her otherworldly voice floating in
    nothingness above the din, "Wildering" is a true weird gem of a track. Followed up by the almost interlude-like "Pickup Sleepy" and backed on the flip by "Go¨mul vi´sa um vorid" a charmingly icy lullaby that's haunting and delicate with just the right amount of spookiness to keep it from becoming too precious. Hopefully this is the start of Kria's solo outings and from the sound they could be quite interesting indeed.
