Fred Frith - To Sail, To Sail (Tzadik, 2008)

This is my favorite Frith album, much preferred to his earlier compositions this year. This is a balance of a lot of things, from Bailey tangents to Fahey patterns. Frith is a phenomenal player, but here his ideas fuse to emotions, and you get an album of almost all solo guitar that is sort of jazz, very free, compositional at times, and many more things. Frith is such an established player that no long introduction is needed, but I would say that if you're looking for a 2008 record, and a good way to get into Fred, this is the album.

Vessels - White Fields and Open Devices
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?veeu3h5ydxdPost rock des de Leeds. Así a primera escucha, entre Explosions, mogwai y Battles, Foals y demás, nada mal, apenas parece que sean ingleses. Un buen 1r disco que tiene toda la pinta de ir ganando a cada escucha.

Vessels are a 5-piece Leeds based band who have just finished recording their debut album, White Fields and Open Devices. Vessels forge together their influences of post-rock, math-rock, electronica and indie into a disparate but cohesive mix. They have been compared to bands as diverse as Talk Talk, Battles, Mogwai, I Was A Cub Scout and Broken Social Scene. Their incendiary live set, which utilises a great understanding of light and shade, has won them many fans. Radio support has been shown by Huw Stephens (for whom a session was recorded), Stuart Maconie, Steve Lamacq, The Organ and John Kennedy.

Lauded singer/songwriter, Ray LaMontagne is set to release his much-anticipated third album, Gossip In The Grain, on October 14th on RCA Records. Recorded with returning producer, Ethan Johns in Box, England, and touching upon a range of styles and musical settings- spanning pastoral folk, railroad blues, front porch country, and plangent balladry - Gossip In The Grain proves to be his most creative and emotionally expansive collection to date. Whereas LaMontagne's two previous albums, 'Trouble' and 'Till The Sun Turns Black', were largely solo affairs, with Johns serving as multi-tasking instrumentalist, Gossip In The Grain sees him joined by members of his touring band, bassist Jennifer Condos and guitarist Eric Heywood (with Johns largely handling drum duties). Along with his band members, LaMontagne is also joined on two tracks - "A Falling Through" and "I Still Care For You" - by singer/songwriter Leona Naess. As LaMontagne explains "It was time to open up a little bit more, not be quite so reserved in my choice of songs that I wanted to record." Recently called by Vanity Fair "a fresh reminder that the genuine artist is not yet an extinct species," Gossip In The Grain reconfirms Ray LaMontagne as an artist and a craftsman without limits, a songwriter who is able to work his melodic gifts and distinctive lyricism through any of the myriad musical traditions that catches his fancy.

últimamente a las bandas les está dando con Bruegel (no sé si la imágen del de Chesnutt es del pintor holandés, pero tiene una estética y un rollo turbador similar), bien bien, mucho mejor que el fluor de los cojones.

Claro, el hecho que salga el Wyatt es mucho más rotundo que cualquier opinión, de todas maneras yo creo que el resto del disco no desmerece. He leído en la rondelús que corre por ahí un single con remezclas de "Come to Berlin", no sé si alguno de los filtradores lo tiene por ahí y lo puede subir, en el sordo no lo he encontrado.

no a ver… lo que salga wyatt es una razón para que me lo baje si, xo he seguido bastante tiempo lo que hacía esta chica y los ultimos trabajos ya me aburrían bastante... por eso, ha sido el gancho de que me lo baje.

pues para mi solo es un plus lo de Wyatt. Cualquier cosa de la Morgenstern es mínimamente bajable, y casi todo una maravilla. Este en concreto, solo lo he escuchado una vez por falta de tiempo, y la primera escucha ha sido de chapeau.
