      Helios– Caesura [2008]

      @2okrvu9r:

      YOU NEED THIS — A MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED UNDER THE SKIN EPIC ***** When me and my wife first met with Keith Kenniff it was on the road on tour with Khonnor in 2004. He was a shimmering humble star, a person that had a sparkle in his eyes, which has been shining through with all the music he pours through. After listening to his music, as Helios and Goldmund over four years time, we are again proud and happy to be able to offer his astounding moody compositions for all of you. Get this. He is a star.

      This is Keith Kenniff’s fifth gorgeous release. In five years Keith’s style has evolved constantly, with his drifting piano compositions taking the Goldmund label and the Helios sound moving out from undreneath the clipped beat-heavy electronics of ‘Unomia’ and into a more unique place, even incorporating vocals on the ‘Ayres’ mini album. ‘Caesura’ however is his ‘proper’ follow-up to the acclaimed ‘Eingya’, and sees Keith return to the instrumental sound he knows so well. In fact in many ways ‘Caesura’ is a more electronic work than its predecessors, blending layer upon layer of synthesizer and adding his assured drumming to come up with the perfect meeting of indie-pop and ambient music. The haunting cinematic element is still present of course, but these songs are more rounded and confident than any in Keith’s career.

      From the delicate bliss of ‘Hope Valley Hill’ which opens up the album with gauzy nostalgia and, as the title promised, hope, through the chunky pop of ‘Come With Nothings’ it is clear that Keith’s music is as arresting as it ever was. Taking cues from the lilting indie-electronics of Ulrich Schnauss and the unfussy ambience of Brian Eno, Keith manages to inject this with his knowledge as a composer. The epic harmonies of ‘Backlight’ for instance reveal a lightness of touch rarely heard in the genre with sweeping synthesized chords buzzing alongside Keith’s signature guitar.

      Accompanied by more gorgeous artwork from Matthew Woodson, ‘Caesura’ is a glowing record for the winter months, and a glimmer of hope to keep the seasons at bay.

        @32yetm6w:

        Some 12 years since the classic "Time Tourist" album (Warp), the rightful follow-up to B12s critically acclaimed and landmark first LP "Electro Soma" (also on Warp) the recently re-launched B12 are back as both label and seminal electronic act. The duo, Mike Golding and Steve Rutter release their first CD album consisting of new unheard material, tracks only ever heard at their live gigs and music only previously available on limited edition vinyl. Last Days of Silence sees the pair return in superb form with an album that rightly joins their first two highly rated electronic classics.
        Following recent comeback single "32 Lineup" the new album "Last Days of Silence" builds on the ethos set down by the duo in 1990, when they started their own music output on B12 Records, to provide music for listening and dancing. Both can be heard here with plentiful aplomb bridging perfect atmospheres, melodies and moods with beats and rhythms fitting enough for every forward thinking dance floor on the planet. From the warm and moody "Ashamed of Me" to the far eastern tinged strings on "Hall of Mirrors", echoic deep bass on the break infected "Magnetic Fields" and dancefloor groove of current single "32 Lineup" Steve Rutter and Mike Golding combine the classic B12 sounds into a new vision of the future. Also featuring a bonus disc of unreleased live recordings "Last Days of Silence" sees B12 rightly return to the UK techno throne.

        Bueno, parece un recopilatorio de directos y material no editado, pero hacía tanto que no sacaban nada que se pilla con ganas. Parece que está por salir uno de remixes y una colección en 7 entregas. Lo malo: suena a retirada.

                          @3vm7hu71:

                          Clocking in at 55 minutes, this blotter paper cascade is the work of Little Sparta’s Alan Boyd and Jonathan Twilight Orr, an erstwhile Irish Jihadi with a cape of crystal visions.

                          Having met in the rainforests of British Columbia some twenty years ago, it was not until late 2007 that the Jihadi climbed into his balloon and set course for Roman Londinium, floating for months before descending upon the Spartan in his clockwork tower. For one week they popped and fizzed, refracting light through hopeful wires and broken instruments to conjure this work of strange alchemical beauty. And what a joyfully peculiar creature it is.

                          Pastor of Oaks, is a shape-shifting dervish where pop mantras melt into vespers for broken angles and hymns for the dream brigades. It’s a cactus trance of ancient metronomes, ESP murmurs and pomegranate flavoured candy canes; kaleidoscopic drift giving voice to ashtray throwing poltergeists, grooving as they do, twisting the night away. An unborn baby’s heart beats next to a flurry of incandescent splendour and the vigilantes quote the poet Rumi as they stumble and skip. Histories without words are the cords that bind and (for now) Just is patron saint of opiate mystics; Sufi Strung Out, Shepherd of Stones.

                          This is a unique piece of genuinely progressive music that draws in a huge range of ideas and influences to create a long player that will appeal to fans of everything from Turkish field recordings and pagan folk to the skewed pop of the Flaming Lips and Granddaddy. Electronics and terrestrial instruments come together, blending songs with tone poems and wide-eyed melodies; at once beguiling and compelling, this release sets the trajectory for both St. Just Vigilantes and Transparent Face, a no nonsense boutique for home listeners and astral ramblers.

                          Va a publicarse en Static Caravan, así que ya os podeis hacer una idea de que puede ir

                                        Uno de Hot Chip se lanza al vuelo en solitario aburrido de tanta remezcla

                                        Alex Taylor - Rubbed Out

                                        @2hzvxz4g:

                                        Because, after all, putting out a record with your band, touring the hell out of the year, and remixing every damn song you hear isn't quite enough for some people, Alexis Taylor of Hot Chip– yes, the one with those glasses-- has just snuck out a solo joint.

                                        It's called Rubbed Out, it was created in "places, planes, hotel rooms, and at home" by Taylor, it includes a cover of Paul McCartney's "Coming Up", and it's available this very moment from Treader. A title like that for a release like this lends itself to lots of amusing gags; have at it, y'all.
