The Ocropolis is Oneida's multidisciplinary studio/performance space in the basement of Monster Island located in Williamsburg Brooklyn.
Built by Oneida and their friends in 2005, this studio has quickly become a legendary source of recordings by Black Dice, Growing, Sightings, Trans Am, Psychic Ills and of course Oneida - it has also played host some intimate Oneida performances over the past year.For this special one of a kind all-day event, Oneida is transporting the impetus, spirit and community of the Ocropolis to the Flaming Lips curated All Tomorrows Parties <http> - for a full day of improvisation, collaboration, and recording which the festival attendees can witness first hand. Combined with the astounding Mighty Robot Visuals light crew and a scheduled series of ATP performer guests Oneida aspires to create a full day of collaboration in order to recreate the band's approach to recording and performing usually restricted to the smallest audiences.
The actual recording process and apparatus will be transparent and the focus of the piece will be on the EVENT, the audio/visual collision and fruits of collaboration. This will not be a recording session per se - simply a documented concentration of the experience of Oneida's Ocropolis.Oneida will perform at a small space on the festival grounds. Oneida will perform continuously throughout the day, sometimes with guests from the rich array of musicians also performing in the festival, sometimes alone and mostly improvised. The door will always be open to the ATP festival goers to experience the Ocropolis.
The performances will be recorded on the fly with a multi-track mobile recording unit by Gang Gang Dance producer and engineer Sean Maffucci. Oneida will then mix, edit and compile the best moments of the day for release as soon as possible. The resultant album will then be made available as an adjunct part of the Thank Your Parents series of releases on a limited basis.
Oneida heartily extends an invitation to all musicians involved with the festival to perform with us at this ongoing experimental audio/visual event.

We have some great new additions today to the Ten Years Of ATP Festival which we are very excited to tell you about. First up are past curators The Mars Volta. We're also very pleased to have Geoff Barrow from ex-curators Portishead who will be presenting his new band BEAK, and another ATP favourite in the shape of the amazing Afrirampo!
7 berth chalets sold out this week, so all we have now are 4, 5 or 6 berths.

Sonen a una barreja de tercer disc d'Aina, amb una mica de June of 44 quan estaven més esverats, i una mica de Shellac també potser. Postpunk tropical, és com ells anomenen el que sona al seu disc instrumental, Culture Vulture. Blue Tit (baix i guitarra), Yellow Belly (guitarra i baix), Red Rooster (bateria) i The White Swan (trompeta i guitarra) són els quatre ocells que pintaran l’escenari.

Estoy tentadísimo, las fechas me cuadran en el curro, pero no me apetece ir sólo. -

Que son tremendos. Hacen noise-psicodelia muy, muy espesa, a ratos tan densa que hasta resulta mareante. Yo les he visto en directo un par de veces, una de teloneros de Mogwai, que me gustaron mucho (Bardo Pond, no Mogwai; bueno, Mogwai también, claro), y otra, de la que no guardo ningún recuerdo, la verdad.
Si tienes que indagar en su discografía, yo te recomiendo el "Bufo Alvarius, 29.15 Amen" o el "Amanita", que son los dos primeros que sacaron si no ando equivocado. Si quieres empezar por el final, bájate el "Ticket Crystals", que es el último editado y que a mí no me dijo gran cosa.
Luego, For Carnation es (era?) un proyecto paralelo de Brian McMahon, de Slint; hacían un post-rock muy de bajona y a bajas revoluciones, al menos en el "Marshmallows" que es el que tengo yo. Ojo que hace unos 248 años que no lo escucho, pero es el recuerdo que tengo. Y Papa M es el alias de David Pajo, también de Slint (y de For Carnation maybe), te lo digo todo y no te digo nada.

Estoy tentadísimo, las fechas me cuadran en el curro, pero no me apetece ir sólo.va una nutrida representación de la organización del PS, si al final vas avisa que nos tomamos algo

Muy amable Coco, si voy os lo contaré por aquí.
Estoy intentando arreglar el tema del alojamiento para quedarme en uno de los hoteles de por allí (el Raleigh), la cosa está pelín complicada porque sólo quedan habitaciones de 4 y sale un pelín caro si voy sólo, pero todavía tengo las esperanzas intactas de buscar algún apaño. Es que con ese cartel si no voy me voy a estar arrepintiendo por mucho tiempo. Lo de Oneida promete ser brutal. Y Bobo Mould con No age…aghhh -

Por cierto, James Williamson levanta el culo de la oficina y se une a lo que queda de Stooges para tocar el Raw Power entero en el ATP.

Pues parece ser que los Dirty Three salieron a tocar en el ATP NY con un invitado de lujo: Nada más y nada menos que Nick Cave! (diría que no estaba anunciado).
Dejo por aquí un set de fotos de la actuación de uno de los próximos cabezas de cartel del PS '10:

el set de los dirty three fue increible. se pueden dar una idea si les digo que la estupenda performance de nick cave en piano fue la parte 'menos buena' del set,
segundo año que voy y, como lo esperaba, no fue la decepcion. el set de panda bear estuvo genial, toco varias nuevas canciones. the drones tocaron mucho mejor que el año pasado.
suicide.. mucha gente salio decepcionada de su set porque alan no estuvo tan 'agresivo' pero a mi me encanto. no se puede esperar la misma performance 40 años mas tarde.
the jesus lizard.. la locura total. estuve en el frente todo el set, me di con la sorpresa que randy y dean de no age estaban a mi lado. david yow bajo a cantar al medio del crowd, se lanzaba sobre nosotros, espectacular.
sufjan stevens tocando seven swans fue muy emocional. excelente set para abrir el dia sabado.
circulatory system.. divertidos. me esperaba una aparicion sorpresa de jeff mangum, pero no se dio. de cualquier forma, hace años queria ver a los circulatory y no decepcionaron.
black dice fue otro highlight del festival. animal collective armo la fiesta. literalmente, una fiesta, parecia un rave.
shellac.. 3ra vez que los veo y fue la mejor. fenomenales.
boredoms.. wow. wow. wow. hice linea desde una hora antes para estar en primera fila, y fue el show del festival para mi. eYe con una guitarra de 8 cuellos, y los 9 bateristas en stage. yamamoto entro cargado desde atras del local. hora y media de completa locura. por unos momentos eYe y yo nos gritamos cara a cara. genial.
caribou.. creo que hubieron ciertos problemas de sonido al inicio del set. o talvez fue que mis oidos aun seguian adormecidos despues de boredoms. me gusto bastante el set de caribou, y esos solos de marshalls eran para deleite. yo ya no podia sonreir mas de lo genial que se oia.
boris.. tocaron feedbacker. no me di cuenta que mis earplugs se me habian caido hasta 10 minutos despues de su set. durante the melvins, los miembros de boris estuvieron a mi lado en el moshpit.
no age w/ bob mould.. talvez mi set mas esperado junto con boredoms. me gusto mucho ver a bob riendo y con tanta intensidad. ya lo habia visto en el coachella pero aqui se le notaba mas metido en el show. bradford cox de deerhunter se les unio para tocar un cover de chinese rocks.
al final del festival, bradford cox, algunos miembros de circulatory system y ryan schrieber de pitchfork tocaron en un salon principal del hotel. sono canciones de microcastle, tiny dancer y girls just wanna have fun. muy divertido.
de entre tantas anecdotas y encuentros, me quedo con haber conocido a eYe y yoshimi de boredoms. saludar a nick cave en la maquina de video juegos. y jugar unos minutos de billar con martin de suicide a las 2.30am.
ahi nos vemos el proximo año. de seguro.
