    Lee Ranaldo - “Noise recitation: Against Refusing”

    Live Barcelona, XXVII International Poetry Festival, 15th May, Virreina Palace

    Better than I expected, very good blending between the poetry reading, the soundtrack, the hanging guitar “playing” and the experimental film (“Visa de ensure no. X”, from Pierre Clementi).

    This is an audience recording.

    The venue was set in the court of the palace and, apart of the main audience area (around 150 seats), there were two small side aisles (around 15 seats), just next to the stage. I was sitting there, and that’s why the whole recording shows unexpected side views of the performance, not the usual frontal one.

    Lee Ranaldo - poetry reading, (mostly) hanging guitar, and small cymbals

    There’s no set list with every poetry reading, and the performance must be considered as a whole. The main reading included poetry of his spam inspired book, “Against Refusing”. At the beginning, Lee explains to the audience that it doesn’t matter if they don’t understand the english texts, because even he doesn’t understant most part of it.

    The audio quality is limited by the built-in still stereo camera mics, but it's overall A-.

    Open air, wonderful early gothic architecture, the best scenery for the type of performance you should expect from Diamanda Galas, she, the piano, and an eclectic audience.

    This is an audience recording, with handheld still camera so, expect some bad framings, strange movements, etc.

    Funny speech between Song 11 and 12 (middle of track 6), about journalists saying her she's gothic ("conyosos" great invented spanish word) and an unexpected or just casual joke saying "porque porque porque", a famous 2011 spanish soccer sentence from coach Jose Mourinho, was it casual or intentional? That's why the woman next to me laughs so loud. I think it's been unintentional. (let me say that this sentence was used by that coach to complain why his team, Real Madrid, was losing every important match, blaming referees and federations alike, but not his fault, of course).

  • Un colega esta pasando las cintas de cassete de los conciertos que grabo en los noventa a internete. Casi todos conciertos que fui con el, como estos que os dejo. El de Pennywise con la nota nacionalista nada mas empezar el concierto, que fue un conciertazo. Con los Radikal HC de teloneros. Ire colgandolos segun los cuelgue el. Estoy deseando que cuelgue el de Eskorbuto en la Sala Sukursal. Al poco la palmo Yosu.

    Yo también los he visto varias veces y siempre cumplen con creces, es de esos grupos que en casa ya no escuchas por pereza, porque te suena todo a lo mismo, pero en directo no sé como se lo montan para ser siempre tan disfrutables. Aunque sigo pensando que siempre es un poco de lo mismo (que si lo mismo es bueno, bienvenido sea!).
