  • aMUTE - Infernal Heights For A Drama

For more than 5 years now, Belgium-based Jerome Deuson has produced
post-folk/electronic music as his solo act, aMute. He has released two albums on the
Canadian label intro version and toured most of the European countries, Canada and
the USA. Since 2008, the project turned into a brand new band of four people, now
including Samuel Volan (bass), Thomas Venegoni (guitars, keys) and Stephane
Fedele (drums). This is their first release as such. Infernal Heights For A Drama is an
album full of introspective songs, psychedelic approaches, yet accessible
compositions. Their music draws a thin line between indie-rock, post-folk and
electronic, yet none of these genres can exactly apply to the rich array of artistry
heard here: loud, roaring, dark electronics, swathes of guitar wash, and echoing,
disembodied vocals. Using a wide diversity of sounds and instruments, aMute is now
ready for a fuller, fresher start. Featuring guest musicians such as Robert Toher (Apse), Joseph Costa (L'Altra),
Mitchell Akiyama (Désormais), Bryce Kushnier (Do Make Say Think, Vitaminsforyou), and Jean-Paul Dessy (Musiques Nouvelles).

  • A Shoreline Dream - Recollections of Memory

The name A Shoreline Dream emanates waves of blissful controlled feedback. Add
the fact that German producer Ulrich Schnauss appears on three tracks and one can
assume that Recollections of Memory is a meticulously layered affair with the
word 'SHOEGAZE' stamped in bold letters over the whole set.

  • Adam Franklin - Spent Bullets

From 1990 to 1998 Adam Franklin was the singer, guitarist and main songwriter for
London-based Swervedriver. Then from 1999 to 2006 Adam recorded and toured as
Toshack Highway, a gentler but no less inventive folky/electronic/film-soundtracky
hybrid. In 2007 an album that had started out as the next Toshack Highway release
became the first album to be released under the moniker Adam Franklin and was
titled Bolts of Melody. In 2008 Franklin found time to record the debut album of Magnetic Morning,
his new collaboration with Sam Fogarino of Interpol, and record
the second Adam Franklin release, Spent Bullets. The new album walks beyond the
ground broken on Bolts and is a more direct, varied and satisfying album than ever
before. In short, some of the most sonicly beautiful songs of Franklin s career
converge on one disc that aims straight for the heart.

  • Pele - A Scuttled Bender In A Watery Closet

This release is a celebration of the seven years, thirteen releases,
experimentation, and insanity known as Pele. Known for their blistering performances,
the group completed their run in 2004. Since then, the core members have been
playing as Collections Of Colonies Of Bees and will be releasing a collaboration with
Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) on Jagjaguwar. Pele left behind a legacy of work that was
often limited edition, always hard to find, and highly collectible. This release looks at
over a years worth of Pele's work, including over two hours of rare music from nine
different labels in the U.S. and Japan.

  • Madness - The Liberty Of Norton Folgate - 2CD

Lord, we are truly blessed. The full line-up of Madness reunited with
original producers Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley on their best batch
of songs since The Rise & Fall. Add in sessions at Liam Watson's Toe
Rag studios and this is truly manna from heaven.
The Liberty Of Norton Folgate is Madness's lengthiest album to date and
also boasts a 10-minute title track. The latter would have got the
nutty boys booted off stage in their '80s heyday and shows how far they
have progressed in their musical maturity.
For all the historical overtones that permeate The Liberty Of Norton
Folgate, this is at heart a pop album through and through. It is
everything you would expect of Madness and more. With age the group
seems to have nailed the mixture of jaunty beats and regretful
nostalgia that they struggled to master during the latter part of their
    '80s career.
In a year when Pet Shop Boys and Depeche Mode have returned with strong
albums, it is pleasing to report that Madness (often maligned as pop
lightweights) have matched both these groups blow for blow. The Liberty
Of Norton Folgate may just be the best thing they have ever recorded.

  • Samantha Crain & the Midnight Shivers - Songs in the Night

There is inspiration beyond the crutches of anxiety and self-contempt. A
soul realizing its full potential removed from a dim and murky den is a breeding-ground
for vision and artistry. Songs In the Night is the account of this excavation for
    Samantha Crain, a 22-year-old Oklahoma-based songwriter. Crain’s full-length debut
is the follow up to 2008’s The Confiscation EP – and her second effort to be released
on independent North Carolina label, Ramseur Records. Along with her band the
Midnight Shivers (Jacob Edwards, Andrew Tanz and Stephen Sebastian), Crain
recorded all twelve tracks in five days at Echo Mountain Studios with producer Danny
Kadar (Grizzly Bear, My Morning Jacket, The Avett Brothers).
Songs In the Night plays out to wander confidently in the badlands where abrasive,
jangly indie rock and smooth, whispery folk meet.

  • Broken Records - Until The Earth Begins To Part 7"

Armed with an onslaught of instruments including guitars, bass, violin, cello,
accordion, mandolin, piano, trumpet, glockenspiel and drums, Broken Records
are set to release their album Until The Earth Begins To Part on 4AD Records.
The first taste is the album’s title track, a lush and layered arrangement that has a
beautiful balance of horns, strings and lively, dynamic vocals.
In a statement the band said "we’re trying to do something different. People forget
that music doesn’t have to be just bass, guitar and drums. It can be just as loud and
exciting with glockenspiel and trumpet". After one listen we can safely say they’ve pretty much nailed it.

  • Birdlips - Cardboard Wings

The updated, sophisticated and polished version of everyone's favorite lo-fi
folk artists of the 60’s and 70’s. Were Nick Drake playing music today, he'd be
touring with Birdlips. Usher's voice is something like Jeff Buckley meets Andrew
Bird commanding and a little rough around the edges, with a strength and
maturity that belies his 20-something years. Pitts creative work on the keys
is the perfect complement; it is a soft fleecy layer that assures the overall
    warmth of the music.

  • Georgias Horse - The Mammoth Sessions

Georgias Horse features the skewed and magnetic vision of singer/songwriter Teresa
Maldonado but her brittle and skeletal songs are fleshed out by multi-instrumentalist
Tiziano Hernandez (bass/guitars), Brad Thomason (drums) and Melly Rose (cello).
But that’s not to say that this recording sounds like it was handled by some kind of
your mother’s your brother, lives in a barn hillman. Their recent collaboration with
hotly tipped Pitchfork favourites and electronic/dub step pioneers Various
Productions (‘As It Stops Raining’, Fire Records) has certainly influenced the group –
the title track and ‘Snake & Sparrow’, creak and echo as if recorded in a haunted
house, on haunted equipment. From the most basic of set ups, a deeply affecting and
    subtle beauty is achieved.
The Mammoth Sessions is redolent of the sun-baked vacant lots of Wim
Wenders’ ‘Paris Texas’, the gentle (ex pat) Americana of The New Pornographers, a
light dusting of the folk psychedelia of Smog and the torrid and threatening country
death songs of PJ Harvey’s ‘To Bring You My Love’.
