            Jason Lytle - Your Truly, The Commuter

            Two years after Grandaddy’s quiet demise, Jason Lytle returns with Yours Truly, the Commuter. Immaculately crafted pop soundscapes mirror both the dramatic environment of Lytle’s newly-adopted Montana and the vintage twang of Central California farmland that provided the backdrop to all Lytle’s earlier work. Electronic flourishes collide with acoustic guitars and soulful piano parts, recreating Lytle’s signature lo-fi-electro atmospheres. The space-fuzz rocking of “It’s the Weekend” is balanced by the beautiful heartbreak of “Rollin’ Home Alone,” and the opening lines of the first song “Yours Truly, the Commuter” poignantly capture the past few years of Jason Lytle’s life, and his shining future as a solo artist: “I may be limping, but I’m coming home”

                    Neon Indian - Psychic Chasms EP

                    @16ej519z:

                    An elusive new project between a musician in Austin and a video artist in Brookyln. Neon Indian delivers equal parts synthetic nostalgia, Dreampop lullabies, and grinding guitar noise to create something eerier than the sum of its parts. After meeting one summer in Texas, the guy/girl duo decided to maintain correspondence via various individual projects until eventually starting a band. Using field recordings, record samples, and a collection of bizarre synth sounds, their bedroom ballads have already forged the upcoming Psychic Chasms EP, set for release early summer. They've been compared to New Order, Future Bible Heroes, and most recently said to sound like a saw-wave cutting a Doobie Brother's song in half. Expect much racket to be had from this fresh faced crew. It's merely the beginning.

                          Nuevo trabajo de los de Florida, esta vez en forma de corto EP que te dejará con ganas de más. Poison The Well continuan con su curiosa evolución y experimentación que ya comenzaron en su anterior trabajo Versions. Oiremos de nuevo esa melódica voz y pasajes lentos y llevaderos, además de momentos de locura y desenfreno como en el último y corto tema Run Desire Gone Clear.

                            Chain and the Gang - Down With Liberty … Up With Chains

                            Ian Svenonius (Make Up, Nation of Ulysses, Weird War) calls his band Chain and the Gang.
                            The songs he had created on Down With Liberty … Up With Chains are sing-alongs;
                            a call and response in the tradition of gospel tunes, work favorites and the girl
                            groups and vocal aggregates that once dotted the corners of the Mid-Atlantic United States.
                            It sounds as natural as a freak hail storm or the roar of a lion on the veldt.
                            The album is cunningly constructed - like a series of tone poems or work songs;
                            the remnants of time served, a universal debt paid to society.
                            It started with one lifer (Ian Svenonius) and grew to include a gang of small time
                            bandits with Calvin Johnson, Brett Lyman (Bad Thoughts), Sarah Pedal, Faustine Hudson (The Curious Mystery),
                            Brian Weber (Dub Narcotic Sound System), Veronica Ortuño (Finally Punk), Nicolaas Zwart (Desolation Wilderness),
                            Karl Blau, Chris Sutton (Hornet Leg), Sixx (The Vibrarians),
                            Arrington de Dionyso, Aaron Hartman and Benjamin Hartman (Old Time Relijun).
                            How do they describe their sound? Something they just found.
                            They dug it up from the ground. Essential to that soil: guitar, drums, organ, saxophone and chants;
                            paying off our collective debt to the universe.

                              Dreamdate - Patience

                              Dreamdate get right to their business of brightening our day with their
                              short, snappy tunes. The overall sound of Dreamdate can readily be spoken
                              of in the same breath as early ’90s crushworthy indie pop a la Lois, cub
                              and Tiger Trap. As the unaffected and uneffected electric guitars strum
                              away happily and the drums keep things simple with an uncluttered beat,
                              you might find yourself hummin’ along with these gals’ warm, smooth female
                              vocals.

                                  Fol Chen - Part 1: John Shade, Your Fortune’s Made

                                  Fol Chen is a project led by Samuel Bing, guitarist in Liars, a band whose members
                                  seem to be devoting their time to extra-curricular activities left right and centre.
                                  The album is alternately catchy and dark, following a typical story arc with
                                  moments high and low, jubilant and brooding.

                                        The Fresh & Onlys - Self Titled LP [Castle Face, 2009]

                                        @215294n4:

                                        The Fresh & Onlys shambles barefoot through Summer of Love-style guitar and tambourine jams, strewing lyrical oddities and flower garlands along the path that leads, if not to where Syd Barrett lives, at least to Dan Treacy’s neighborhood. Led by Tim Cohen, ex of the underrated Black Fiction, and now sometime supporter of Ty Segall, the band channels the zonked hippie overload of the 13th Floor Elevators and the lo-fi whimsies of Treacy’s Television Personalities. Shayde Sartin and Wymond Miles, both of the extended Skygreen Leopards family, join in for dense jangles of psychedelic guitar and half-tuned, echo-canyon harmonies. A plurality of band members seem to have worked with Kelley Stoltz at one point or another, and picked up a bit of his funhouse pop aesthetic.

                                        Lyrically, these songs are down to earth with none of the hearts and unicorns-style excesses of typical 1960s-influenced compositions. Things do turn a bit twee with “Imaginary Friends,” a song in the Barrett fey pop tradition, though it’s worth mentioning that the lyric is “I don’t have many imaginary friends / but if I did I would live with them until the very end.” Notice the “if” – even when Cohen turns fanciful, even when he imagines madness, he remains grounded in the real world. Later, he turns the very positive phrase, “What’s good for the body is good for the mind,” into a psych-redolent, reverb-shimmering chorus. This is a healthy, balanced kind of tripping, all 1960s excesses viewed through a practical prism.

                                        Production on this self-titled debut is rough and echo’d, giving guitar-vamped sing-alongs like “Shattered Moon” a mod, Pebbles aura. Squint sideways, and you could easily imagine these tracks turning up in a jumble sale crate, day-glo album art cracked and dog-eared from years of storage. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. “Feelings in My Heart” swaggers unsteadily on a giant Spector beat, its everyone-together-if-not-exactly-in-tune chorus swelling, its surf-psych guitars criss-crossing in paisley anarchy. Spooky menace lurks in the cavernous echoes of a good number of these songs. “Endless Love,” which is not a song from the Brooke Shields movie, drives as hard and slantwise as a Michael Yonkers’ song, breaking into group “na na na na nas” that have no intention of taking a sad song and making it better. “I looked in…the abyss…I saw him,” sings Cohen on the teeth-rattling, maniac-surf, shout-along “I Saw Him,” and you remember how psychedelia can turn scary in the right hands.

                                        Yet even when it’s a bit ominous, this Fresh & Onlys debut is pure tie-dyed fun, a guitar-strumming, tambourine rattling ramble through Nuggets-land that never sags into nostalgia.

                                            Bonnie 'Prince' Billy & Cheyenne Mize - Among The Gold

                                            Collaboration of covers from the years 1874-1913. Pretty cool idea, unique sound too with the blend of old-timey vocal lines and folky guitars.
                                            These older tunes are elegant, focused, and beautifully spun. Like a story that just keeps getting better with age, Among the Gold places us squarely in the past and present — drifting on a hushed sunbeam of song.
