a ver qué os parece, a mí me ha decepcionado un montón. es un poco más lento y chandalero que unsane o cutthroat. pero bueno, ya se sabe (todos a coro): tengo que escucharlo más.

bueno … es verdad que de primeras no te mata (ya habia oido hace semanas un par de temas en su my space) pero es que no es unsane, es chris spencer con peña muy diferente (aunque esta claro que el chris no puede dejar de hacer lo que mejor sabe hacer, el segundo tema es puritito unsane por ejemplo) ...
en general, asi de primeras me parece eso: que es el sonido de unsane pero con teclados y algo mas de melodia, lo cual me parece interesante, al chris spencer se le ven registros diferentes antes desconocidos como cierta melodia en la voz (muy bien resuelta por cierto, por algo el hombre ha desarrollado un buen chorro de voz).
por lo tanto eso, partiendo de que esto no es un unsane el disco no esta para nada mal, creo que tiene buenos momentos, aun asi me uno al coro, tengo que escucharlo mas, puede que me guste mas o me guste menos... gustar ya me gusta, aunque con chris spencer esa voz, esas guitarras,... y yo siendo ultra fan de unsane, aunque grabe un disco de pedos seguro que me gusta un poco...

podria haber comentado algo mas de las aportaciones de los demas musicos (que estan dando buena impresion, pero por ahora mas que nada me he quedado solo con los teclados) le tengo que dar mas escuchas…

a mi este disco me vale como racion de sonido unsane que cada cierto tiempo viene bien, ya que seguro que el siguiente disco de unsane (si es que lo hay ?¿?? ya que andan muy separados ahora, el chris spencer vive en berlin) podria tardar mucho en materializarse....

proyecto de improvisacion promovido por gente de los suizos shora con sthepen o´malley, gente de guapo,… y en este 3er disco con los geniales baterias (2) de buttercup metal polish.

el disco consta de varias sesiones de improvisacion grabadas en suiza, esto fue las bases en las que luego otros musicos grabaron sus partes (entre ellos sthepen o´malley, de hecho algunos musicos no se han visto en persona hasta despues de todo el proceso) y que fue mezclado todo y masterizado en un laborioso proceso de post-produccion en londres.
el resultado final es una jam en clave bastante apocalitptica, oscura y muy contenia que te mantiene en vilo en todo momento, con un speeching que parece que esta invocando al diablo decir que no se oye ni una guitarra pesada del o´malley, no va por ahi el tema, lo cual hace mas interesante el disco, mostrando otra faceta en su aportacion.
tambien muy a destacar las geniales 2 baterias free jazziticas de nicolas y alexandre de buttercup metal polish.

aunque por lo que me han contado el resultado tiene mucha mucha postproduccion (primero se grabo la base y luego otros musicos hicieron su aportancion y despues otra persona se ocupo de juntarlo todo) a mi me ha parecido muy muy interesante…

Fiery Furnaces: June 11, 2009 Le Poisson Rouge-Live

Its been almost a year since we last saw Fiery Furnaces live, at East River Park last July. In that time, the band has produced a new CD I’m Going Away, due to be released on July 1. At Le Poisson Rouge last night, the Furnaces performed “in the round”, or the center stage at LPR that permits the crowd to surround the performance area while the band can project in any direction — a set-up appropriate for this band.

The band consisted of the core touring band for the Furnaces, with Bob D’Amico on drums and Jason Loewenstein on bass, with Eleanor limited to vocals and Matt exclusively on guitar. It was strange to see the Furnaces without any keyboards on stage whatsoever (it was just 14 months ago at Southpaw when they were a two keyboard band!). As a guitar band, the quartet offered a straightforward rock version of the new I’m Going Away in its entirety, along with stripped down versions of nine other classics.

Regina Spektor: June 17, 2009 Beacon Theatre

Its been almost two years since we last saw Regina Spektor live, at Hammerstein Ballroom in 2007. We had a ticket to the McCarren Pool show last summer, but torrential rains kept us away. It was with that level of excitement that we entered the new Beacon Theatre to hear the first-ever live performances of much of Regina’s new CD, Far, due for release next week. As anticipated, the new material is more mature and elaborate — she played with a string section and drums — but still very much maintains the charming attraction of older Regina material. Of the new songs, the pre-released single “Laughing With” shined the brightest. The second half of the set was dedicated to many of Regina’s older and more familiar material — but also included three chestnuts, the infrequently played “Consequence of Sounds”, the b-side “Riot Gear”, and a new song preliminarily called “The Holocaust Deniers”. The latter song sounds like a straightforward rebuke of the title characters “who accuse the dying of lying”.

There's some great stuff on here too, with the title track marking itself out as especially alluring, steeped in a strung-out, middle-distance strangeness, populated by extreme violin glissandos and heavy detuning all round. More structured, rhythmic sounds are on offer too, and more full-blooded works like 'Jumping Over Fire' and the trance-like orientalisms of 'Ritual Prayer' stand out in particular.

For some reason unexpected pleasures are superior to the expected variety, at least 9 times outta 10. And so it was when we happened upon the dizzy/fizzy music of French loop enthusiast High Wolf for the first time, regarding whom we had zero preconceived notions. Cheers to open minds/ears then, cause the High Wolf audio worldview is weird and wobbly and one that should appeal to all lovers of tripped out, swelter-zone equatorial electronics. Animal Totem is High Wolf’s debut release, and it piles wavy, tranced keyboard melodies one on top of the other into a pulsing ritual heap of colored smoke. Elsewhere he slips in sunset fuzz-guitar lines and temple meditation tones and even dangles down some flanger-flecked synthetic percussion like a bunch of mellow yellow bananas. Take a look up/down/all-around. Overall it’s a rich, ripe rumble in the escapist-psych jungle. Future trips are booked on Long Beach drone/craft emporium Stunned Records, keep an eye open. Pro-dubbed cassettes in cases with full-color animal-collage artwork by Amanda. Hand-numbered edition of 100.
