GROUPER - Cover The Windows And The Walls (2009 Edition) [Root Strata, 2009]

@gfi6hlbz:
One of the releases we get asked about most often and an absolute treasure for anyone lucky enough to already own a copy. "Cover The Windows And The Walls" was Grouper's first vinyl-only release back in 2007 and fetches tidy wedges of cash on the second hand market, particularly over the last 12 months when Grouper's status has sky-rocketed. We've just never been able to contain our undying love for Liz Harris and over the last couple of years she has shot to the top of our favourite artists list with her inexplicably mesmerising blend of shoegazer signatures and psych-driven narratives. Put another way, her music partially fits into so many brackets - drone, ambient, doom, folk, acid folk, shoegaze, psych etc etc - and yet doesn't really sound like anything you'll have heard before. On this amazing album almost every piece has decomposed, feedback laden, almost drowned guitar sounds underpinning each note, creating a soup of electric noise not so far removed from My Bloody Valentine's classic 'Loveless'. This is breathtaking, heart trembling music. The opening title track is possibly one of the finest Harris has yet committed to record, with the curving waves of guitar perfectly matched against her unique vocals - still smothered in curls of smoking noise and crumbling ambience. I find it hard to articulate my feelings about this music, it's just the sort of record you can play and fall deeply into, becoming slowly enveloped in some of the most gorgeous and subtle harmonies this side of the spiritual plain. I won't say any more save that this is a strictly limited edition so don't hang about!

Sneakers - Children Into People 7''- Permanent

Jessie Evans "Is it fire"

@6q7c2r6n:
ni habiéndola visto en concierto sé cómo describirla, así que: IS IT FIRE ? ventures into an exotic world of rhythm, reaching from the flesh and beyond to a place where drums conjure up images of latin heroes Perez Prado, Yma Sumac, afro-beat, nu-no wave & a touch of Istanbul, saxophones like a flock of birds guide the traveler through familiar but unknown lands, and trumpets enter like parades of mariachi’s dancing down on Revolution St.

Budd Jersey - 'Wonderlands'

@25pnnwss:
Genuine optimism is hard to come by these days, but Jersey Budd is one man that’s determined to put a bit of positivity back into pop. Standing on the shoulders of such giants as Dylan, Springsteen and Cat Stevens, this 24 year-old singer, songwriter and guitarist offers a genuine alternative to the current malaise, blowing away the cobwebs with a lethal combination of talent, charm and pure will.
Still a virtual unknown at this stage, the new year offers Jersey a chance to shine. Forthcoming debut album ‘Wonderlands’ was recorded at the same time as fellow Leicester lads Kasabian were recording their third album, a stones throw away from Jersey’s studio. Tom Meighan, 3 school years above Jersey, contributing backing vocals to first single ‘She Came Back’.
The album was mixed by Paul Stacey (Oasis, The Black Crowes) and mastered by Ian Cooper (Oasis, The Verve) both of whom were recommended to Jersey by Noel Gallagher.
Aside from his expressive, powerful voice and knack for a good melody, it’s Jersey’s unique take on rock history that makes his music so compelling. On ‘Shotgun Times’ he updates southern rock with contemporary string and horn arrangements, while ‘She Came Back’ shimmers with the 60’s finest harmonies, featuring the same handclaps and ‘Sha-La-Las’ that punctuated The Hollies’ finest moments.
Jersey has also broken new ground with his unconventional record deal: a partnership between Jersey, his fans and innovative new service Bandstocks. The brainchild of music lawyer Andrew Lewis and assisted by B-Unique and Vinyl Factory, Bandstocks offers fans unprecedented access to Jersey and his music in return for investment in the production and marketing of 'Wonderlands' – a perfect partnership for a man with unshakeable faith in his ability to connect.
Gifted yet grounded, Jersey Budd is a working class hero in the making, matching Lennon’s looks with The Boss’ penchant for the epic. We’re sure that his voice, songs and most importantly his lust for life, will make welcome additions to 2009’s musical landscape.
My debut single "She Came Back" on iTunes now & 2nd single "Visions of You" available Feb' 16th 2009. My debut album "Wonderlands" is due May 2009.

Un poquito de folk de ese raro que tanto gusta. En la línea de Woods y publicado por Amish Records.
Theo Angell - Tenebrae

http://www.mediafire.com/?kgnyn1mdg4h@142ntug9:
Theo grew up in rural Oregon, was home-schooled along with his siblings by his minister father, which provided him little exposure to mainstream pop culture; the tunes on Tenebrae reflect these conditions, documenting both a reverence for and rebellion against isolation and spiritual absolutes. To that end, the title song, which is the Latin word for shadows, references a religious ceremony that involves the extinguishing of candles and a slamming of the book in advance of holy week. The album’s song-cycle reworks various primitive musical forms (tent revival, folk, psych, fill-in-the-blank with wildly counter-cultural outsider artist) to new and celebratory ends, twisting these styles into a unique brand of folk-psychedelia. For this outing, the Tabernacle Hillside Singers include, among others, Matt Valentine, P.G. Six, Tom Greenwood, Samara Lubelski and Tara Jane O'Neil. Tenebrae highlights again Theo’s unique poly-vocal pyrotechnics and will no doubt prove to be one of the most beautiful records of the year.
There are great sci-fi stories in the flesh of underground music, and Theo Angell is a monstrous storyteller—there can be no single universe to slay or streamline his genius. He cannot be contained within the medium, his voice becomes a giant amidst the twin peaks of yr speakers. Boasting an impressive amalgam of the sonic pH factor of the Pacific Northwest, sacred harmony singing/arranging and an extremely erudite upgrade on modern folk forms, Theo Angell's Tenebrae resonates deep in the annals of sonic architecture, the next step, or second tier, of the Cecil Sharp house. This addition is more like a modal bathysphere with a teleport than any kinda arcane "in the ground pool," tho' there is plenty here for one to deep one’s inner ear within the waters of tradition.
