Black Dice - Chocolate Cherry 7" [Catsup Plate, 2009]

@2uk8nbzi:
Black Dice's "Chocolate Cherry" seven inch comes hot on the heels of their album Repo (which is Catsup Plate's favorite Black Dice record) and finds the band pushing themselves further "out" and paradoxically making some of the poppiest sounds to come from their camp in some time.
If Repo was the sound of Black Dice making a funk record then "Chocolate Cherry" veers more towards soul, if you can believe that. The title track is all clipped ecstatic vocals and stuttering disco soul. "POP STD" pins a laconic guitar line and backmasked vocals onto a plodding drum line. And the record closes with the amazingly titled "Bob" which somehow merges insect like buzzing, an incessantly lazy rhythm and what this writer likes to think is a sitar drone (but probably isn't) into a piece of druggy brilliance.Silkscreened on heavy chipboard in four colors by the fine folks at VG Kids.
Single edition of 500 copies only. All initial copies are to be sold on the band's Spring 2009 US tour. Any remaining copies will be made available upon the band's return.

**Hard-Ons with Neil Hamburger - American Exports 7"
Punk Rock
@bmj2c8vb:
"American Exports" is a 4-song EP recorded last year in Sydney, Australia, while Neil was touring there. On this wonderful recording, Neil, who is by no means a "punk" vocalist, and much prefers the oldies-but-goodies heard on AM Radio, was paired up with Australia's most infamous and long-lasting punk rock band, The Hard-Ons. The results have been made available through the medium of "recorded sound", on a 7" vinyl record in a deluxe sleeve, released by the German record company Red Lounge Records. Only 500 of these were ever pressed, and supplies are bound to run low, since angry hate music is so popular now.

Joakim - Milky Ways (K7 - 2009)
http://rapidshare.com/files/251812792/J-_MW.zip
@enhv9kv5:
“You may know Joakim Bouaziz from his 2007 album Monsters & Silly Songs, a sui generis fusion of disco, post-punk and pop that became something of an instant cult classic. You may know him for his remixes of artists like Cut Copy, Simian Mobile Disco, Annie, Alter Ego, DJ Mehdi, Royksopp and Poni Hoax. You may know him from his years behind the scenes at Tigersushi, the iconic Parisian label at the crossroads between post-punk, dance music and the avant-garde. But whatever you think you know about Joakim, prepare to be very surprised by this, his third studio album.
Over the course of a tidy 51 minutes, Joakim and his band mates fold together bits of psychedelia, old-school computer music, exotica, electro-pop, blues, new wave, New Pop, Krautrock and more into an expansive, remarkably coherent album that refuses to be reduced to a single genre, much less a single idea. This is no pastiche: these are proper songs, and the whole album follows the kind of overall arc that’s rare in a contemporary longplayer. […] “

The Fresh and Onlys son muy grandes, es uno de mis grandes discos de debut de este año, todo lo que van sacando desde los EP's, al S/T en Castle Face, esta cassette en el subsello de woods y todo lo que viene, HoZac, Woodsist… con hitazos que van desde pop/rock psycodelico al revival garagero.

Jackie-O Motherfucker - Ballads of the Revolution [Fire Records, 2009]
Dark Ambient, Drone, Metal
@3hbevahx:
JOMF's tenth studio album, Ballads Of The Revolution is brilliantly poised in its capturing of the band's Americana otherness. So many of the veteran group's finest attributes are condensed here: their ethereal country tendencies, those prolonged Deadhead meanderings and in the sublime closing track 'A Mania' you get to hear them exercising their more traditional songwriting prowess. From the outset Ballads Of The Revolution shows signs of being a fairly special entry into the Jackie O MoFo discography, marking its beginnings with a shimmering, echo-lined arrangement of the traditional ballad 'Nightingale' before on 'Dark Falcon' moving into the kind of jumbled improv sound-shaping the band have become famed for, blending sweetly intoned vocals with free-country waves of noise, sample manipulation and surreal slide guitar gestures. Presenting one of the most unusual instances on the album, 'The Corner' is an oddly minimal affair, rich in atmosphere and occasional dubbed out wah-wah pulsations whilst turntablist movements interfere with Tom Greenwood's sleepwalking vocals. Ballads Of The Revolution does a great job of balancing this great band's experimental side with its more structured leanings toward traditional American folk musics, and because of that surely ranks among the most essential of all JOMF's albums.

Nadja / Black Boned Angel - S/T (2009)
http://www.rapidshare.com/files/254830174/nbba.rar.html@1ac90ukx:
The idea for a collaboration between Canada's prolific neo-doom duo Nadja and New Zealand's pitch black droners Black Boned Angel was first hatched in conversations between 20 Buck Spin and Nadja's Aidan Baker around the time Nadja released their Truth Becomes Death EP on Alien8 Recordings in 2006. 20 Buck Spin ran the idea by Campbell Kneale of Black Boned Angel, who at that point was unfamiliar with Nadja. After Kneale heard their material, the complimentary potential was realized, and the groups began their cross-continental collaboration by digitally sending music back and forth.
Both groups, along with Campbell's altar-ego Birchville Cat Motel, were extremely busy releasing their own material, but by the end of 2007, the collaborative effort had realized three fully formed tracks. One called "Christ Send Light" that included vocals was released in 2008 as a CD EP on Kneale's own Battlecruiser imprint; the other two make up this full-length release. With the CD being a collaborative effort, 20 Buck Spin convinced two close comrades, David D'Andrea and Stephen Kasner, to collaborate on artwork. Again, artistic collaborations take a great deal of time, and finally in 2009 both art and music have finally come together for this much-anticipated release.These two 20-plus-minute instrumental tracks have a less accessible vibe then the Jesu-like track on last year's Christ Send Light EP. They are comprised in equal parts of Nadja's fuzzed-out, lurching, hazy dream-doom, and Black Boned Angel's razor-sharp, metallic riff-shards. An extended passage of static noise bleeds one track into the next, while deep-space eerieness looms ever present in the shadows. Eventually, the whole thing collapses under the weight of its self-created black hole– the death throes of the whole damn genre. This is the end.
