    The evocative title of this collaboration between Glasgow’s Pastels and Tokyo’s Tenniscoats neatly summarises its scope, cleanly articulating the twin creative impetuses and their distant origins on the banks of the Clyde and the Sumida. These titular skies cast shimmering reflections in the music’s deep pools of willowy sighs and gentle swells, with opening instrumental Tokyo Glasgow making the record’s duality unmistakable. There’s no abrasive culture clash here, only harmony.

    Tenniscoats singer Saya’s bilingual vocals demonstrate that listeners don’t necessarily need to understand the lyrics to be moved by the sentiment, but those couplets that are discernable are unabashedly lovely - in particular the fragile lament that glides on Song For A Friend’s intensely pretty melody. Elsewhere, Start Slowly So We Sound Like A Loch makes floating in icy waters sound positively lush, while Saya’s own description of Sodane’s flute as “like cherry blossom falling from a tree” might sound twee and pretentious if it weren’t so apt. Two Sunsets, then, is a tale of two cities: an enveloping delight both familiar and unusual, gentle in its tempo yet invigorating in its possibilities.

    Swords es una colección de caras B de los tres últimos discos. Los que conozcan bien la trayectoria de Morrissey se toparán con un montón de canciones que ya habían escuchado previamente (la mayoría son caras B de los singles y otra buena parte, del CD bonus de You are the quarry). A ver, me da miedo recomendarlo teniendo en cuenta el amor/odio que genera por todos lados, pero la verdad es que hay canciones que no entiendo cómo no entraron en alguno de sus álbumes, como por ejemplo, el flojillo Ringleader of the tormentors. "Children in pieces", "Ganglord" o"Christian Dior" son brutales.

    Horace Andy and Alpha - Two Phazed People (Don't Touch Recordings, 2009)

    To start, this is the album I have been waiting for since I heard Horace Andy on Massive Attack’s Protection album. Heavy dub bass pounding along with jumped-up beats and sci-fi electronics sparkling through the speakers would be more than enough for a dub-head like me but add in the always outstanding vocal contribution from Horace Andy and my day-month-really year has been made.

    The production is stellar with layered beats, funky grooves, and a confidence that matches the expectations associated with Horace Andy. This is future dub and makes no concessions or sacrifices in its focus. One refreshing element of Two Phased People is how Alpha places Horace’s vocals front and center with little to no effects on it. Horace’s voice is a distinct instrument that needs no studio-trickery to mesmerize the ear. So to hear it immaculately-recorded and presented front-and-center is a top priority on my checklist of satisfied listening
