@1p79uc3s:
“Summertime Clothes”, the second single from Animal Collective's critically acclaimed LP, Merriweather Post Pavilion, will be available 29th June on 12” and digital. “Summertime Clothes” is a deliriously warm and instantly infectious track.

Blank Dogs - Slow Room! 7" [Captured Tracks, 2009]
@z5wv1m78:
Blank Dogs has definitely progressed in leaps and bounds since his earliest emissions. Having started out at the more messy indigestible end of the noise-pop genre, his knack for hooky, fizz-filled compositions seems to be getting more and more palatable, as demonstrated by two excellent cuts right here. In the wake of his Under And Under album, there seems to be a heightened focus on melody, and 'Slow Room' sounds like New Order playing a two-minute concert from inside a can of fizzy drink. It's all still thin and heavily coated in effects, but there's definitely a proper musician emerging from the rubble of cheap synths and even cheaper fourtrack recorders.

Celan "Halo" (2009, Exile on Mainstreet)
Rock Metal Noise
Nuevo grupo de Chris Spencer de Unsane con peña de Einsturzende y Oxbow, yay!
@2rbm32xe:
11 tracks, 51 minutes. The explosive masterpiece that only happens when a classically trained composer meets noise rock and they decide to tear the boundary walls down.
A common musical ground does not ultimately require coming from the same scene or style. It doesn't even require coming from the same musical universe, as long as there is a deep appreciation for each other's work and the ability and will to push some boundaries. Celan was conceived of in early 2008 when Ari Benjamin Meyers (of Redux Orchestra and Einstürzende Neubauten ) and Chris Spencer (Unsane, Cutthroats 9) met in a bar in Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin. Initially it was intended as a collaboration between a classically trained composer and someone who had been working and touring in a noise/rock band for years. It's quite an ironic side note that this collaborative idea was born in Germany, probably the last remaining country in the world where music reception, and thus broadcasting and media representation, is still determined by a separation between 'serious' and 'popular' music. Sure, bands like the aforementioned Einstürzende Neubauten have been working for decades on tearing these walls down and Celan might be another addition to this goal, although in a different manner. This album, titled Halo, is pure rock! It distills the genre to its core elements and channels pure emotion into sounds so thick and massive that one could only dream about them. It's fascinating how Ari Benjamin Meyers' skills stand up to the blistering noise blast created by the rest of the band. But let's talk history first:
After the initiation of the band at said Berlin bar, it became obvious that it was more than just a nice idea. The possibility of recording in the ex-Einstürzende Neubauten studio came up, and it seemed that it could indeed become reality. As months went by, the whole thing began to take shape with the addition of Philipp Körner and Xavi Thiem (both of ex- flu.ID-fame) on bass and drums. Chris, Philipp and Xavi met when flu.ID toured with Unsane in late 2007 and stayed in touch, becoming good friends. Chris also met Niko Wenner (Oxbow) during Summer 08, and the line-up was complete. In August 2008 they spent two weeks in the studio writing and recording, pretty much from the get-go. Forcing themselves into a fruitful jam/recording situation they laid a full album to tape in just two weeks. The songs are infused with this spontaneity and one can feel the chemistry between the band members which aided the creative process. Ideas use the musician and his instrument as a medium, creating stunning music literally by itself. Even though there is a lot of thought and creativity put into this album, it reveals its beauty through its compelling creative vibe.
And here we are: Halo is the debut album from Celan - a band you can pigeon-hole at your own risk - categorise as noise, rock or whatever you like. Please approach this masterpiece as we did : with an open mind, ready to be stunned by its sheer class, emotion and musical craftsmanship.

Young Widows "Split singles" (2009)
Noise Rock Biela
los cuatro splits con bonnie prince billy, my disco, melt banana y pelican en el mismo archivo. queda un ep de lo más correcto, hoye.
@278krjfy:
So Young Widows are jumping on the increasingly popular "split single" bandwagon and brought Pelican, My Disco, Melt Banana and even Bonnie Prince Billy along for the ride. I guess it's a good way to introduce some of your friends bands to new people. In this case with maybe the exception of My Disco none of these bands are particularly obscure. So I guess maybe it could work the other way around and it could be used as a way to introduce Young Widows to new people. Either way I guess it works out to be a win/win situation. I've been singing the praises of Young Widows many times already on this blog and they are probably my favorite band at the moment. What I love about these songs is that they're just as good as anything they've put out on their LP's. They don't have that "studio outtake/cutting room floor" feel to them like a lot of split singles do. If you put the 4 songs together it would make for a great EP.

Malachi / The Bastard Noise split - "The Immortals" [Housepig, Hear More!, 200mg, 2009]
Electronic, Rock, Hardcore, Noise, Power Electronics, Experimental@fcuuthry:
Three labels, two bands, one crushing release! Each group contributes two tracks, alternating between doom-laden hardcore and deep space sonic experimentation. Malachi (featuring members of Artimus Pyle, What Happens Next? and Fuck Face) brings together a mix of crusty hardcore and unstoppable doom, all shot through with mournful cello melody. The Bastard Noise lineup of Wood, Nelson and Rauf (also responsible for the critically-lauded "Rogue Astronuat" cd) come forth with their signature oscillator-based transmissions from the void, isolated communications from beyond Alpha Centauri. This split release is brought to you by Housepig, Hear More! and 200mg, in a heavy poly sleeve with a unique shifting-color six-panel insert by Thumbprint Press.

UNITED BIBLE STUDIES
The Jonah (Camera Obscura, 2009)@2yagneof:
Camera Obscura is proud to be able to present to the world the follow-up to the band's masterful "The Shore That Fears the Sea", and it's a cornucopia of sonic delights, covering the spectrum from delicate folk to sprawling progressive rock.
The album title is a reference to the James Herbert novel where a "Jonah" is a cursed person who brings bad luck everywhere, and is also the title of the 16 minute avant/progressive folk suite that forms the record's centerpiece. Richard Youngs' progressive rock project Ilk provided the impetus for the band to make a "Prog Album" (which was the working title) so they started with the everything-but-the-kitchen-sink opus "The Jonah". It was the first track recorded for this album during a two week burst of industry and creativity when the band locked themselves away in Mullingar. David's imagery for the first section was partially inspired by the Vin Diesel film Pitch Black and it takes flight in all kinds of different dream directions from there. Running the gamut from delicate acoustic guitar to Sunn 0))) style doom metal and back again, it's an extraordinary feat of the imagination.
Around this central track, a range of shorter tracks orbit, typically acoustic or folk-rock in nature with occasional experimental flourishes, they are characterized by glorious melodies and arrangements and a peerless array of guests. Ivan Pawle of Sea Dog and Scented Candle weaves hurdy gurdy through the title track. Richard Moult, who has worked with Current 93 and Sol Invictus provides synth and very David Tibet like vocals to opener "The Swallowing", and helps out with the space folk piece "A for Andromeda". Ex Mellow Candle singer Allison O'Donnell provides vocals for several tracks, including the climactic conclusion to a Dave Colohan and Sharron Kraus duet version of the traditional "Lowlands of Holland". Sharron's stamp is elsewhere as well, playing tin whistle on "Veilsong" and her unique parlor guitar was borrowed to bring instrumental "Mirror in Cherwell" to fruition.
With a sound like expiring infant suns weeping for worlds they'll never warm, "The Jonah" should appeal to lovers of the likes of Espers, Black Forest/Black Sea, Sharron Kraus, and Nick Castro, as well as darker matter like Current 93 and Sol Invictus… (Camera Obscura)

The Duke & The King - Nothing Gold Can Stay
folk, pop@21ceo79k:
Whereas Simone Felice and his brothers tapped into one of the richest veins of America’s folk tradition on their last three albums; for his debut with new band The Duke & The King, Simone and old friend and new partner Robert Chicken Burke together now combine elements of blue-eyed soul, Topanga Canyon and even Bolan-esque inspired acoustic musings.
“Nothing Gold Can Stay” was recorded in splendid isolation in a makeshift studio in Bearsville, New York State then taken down The Hudson to be mixed and mastered by Grammy award winning hip-hop maestro Bassy Bob Brockmann (Notorious B.I.G’s Ready To Die). It’s an album that is populated by those on the brink of fame and fortune, those just getting by and those who have lost their way. Inspired by the sights and sounds that surrounded them both as they grew up in New York City, from The Summer Of Sam and the beat box’s bass heavy boom to BB guns shooting Challenger from the sky - and by the flip side of the not-so-great American dream - boyhood friends turned scarred veterans. The Duke And The King’s debut album celebrates adolescence’s not so innocent times while grudgingly accepting the occasionally harsh reality of the streets of a city that they both grew up on.http://rapidshare.com/files/244455687/TD_TKNGCS_Vic.zip
