Chuck Prophet - Let Freedom Ring (2009)
Chuck Prophet is an American singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer. A Californian, Prophet first achieved notice in the American rock group Green on Red, with whom he toured and recorded in the 1980s.
Chuck Prophet's genius lies in assimilating a wide variety of genres into hisessentially Stonesy architecture ahead of the standard curve. From the seminal'80s alt-country shimmer of Green on Red to his incredibly diverse solo sonic quilt - early Americana rocker/mid-period electronic folkie/latter-day style hybridist - Prophet has engagingly exemplified his surname. On Soap and Water,his Yep Roc debut, Prophet continues to defy easy categorization, seamlesslyweaving together his myriad roles: chunky rocker "Freckle Song", sensitive pop balladeer "Would You Love Me", sonic dabbler "Doubter Out of Jesus "All Over You". For his considerable talents as performer/arranger/stylist, the ribbon that neatly ties the package is Prophet's lyrical gift, as his beat story-songs pulse with novelistic detail, noirish humor and poetic ambiguity and bristle with pure, guileless rock abandon. Originality is not easy in the derivative rock world but Chuck Prophet has blazed genre trails for over two decades with no signs of running out of inspiration or desire.

otros que se apuntan al lo-fi, esta vez desde Melbourne y con canciones tan redondas y elegantes como "Airbrushed dolphins". La verdad es que el andergraun australiano tiene bastantes sorpresas, como Spider Vomit, Circle Pit, The Ooga Boogas o estos chicos/a. Habrá que seguir escarbando por los myspaces de esa zona.

Ayer me dejaron en la puerta de casa 150 kilos de vinilo y cartón, los componentes básicos del nuevo disco de Frànçois And The Atlas Mountains, que lleva por nombre Plaine Inondable. Un disco que seguro que no estará en ninguna lista de fin de año pero que a mí me tiene enamorado.
La edición en cd corre a cargo de Talitres para Europa y Fence para UK (el link se corresponde a esa versión), mientras que el vinilo lo sacamos en Lejos Discos con una cuidada edición en Gatefold (vamos, una auténtica ruína), que nos ha llevado más tiempo del que esperábamos pero que ha quedado incluso mejor de lo que habíamos imaginado. Aquí os dejo una fotico que le saqué ayer al desempaquetarlo (más fotos en este link al facebook):

Killer from nose to nuts, with 19-minute monster “Mothershift” taking top honors; it reminds us that one ton of feathers is just as crushing as one ton of lead, if properly positioned.
