El Goodo combines the mellow and melodious psychedelic sounds of the Beach Boys, The Byrds and Love with beautiful and lush arrangements that call upon the mystical countryside from whence they came. The result is the creation of a mysterious, sweepingly grand, and at times whimsical approach to their already eclectic soundscape. Their intoxicating sophomore release, Coyote, due January 2009 (Grease Records), is both sprawling and hauntingly deserted, evoking a sonic landscape both richly cultivated and desolate, with intensely poetic harmonies and darkly articulated instrumentation. “Aren’t You Grand”, “I Saw Her Today”, “Talking to the Birds”, and “Oh, to Sleep” feel cinematic, like a dark western cowboy soundtrack, juxtaposing surfy and at times summery melodies to create an ominous score. “Feel So Fine”, “Be My Girl”, and “I Can’t Make It” continue in El Goodo’s knack for beautiful beach harmonies, but opt for psych-breakouts and breakdowns reminiscent of efforts by Olivia Tremor Control and Lansic Dreiden. Coyote was produced by the band in a deserted theater and has brought together Cian Ciaran of the Super Furry Animals’ fame to mix the album, as well as renowned artist Pete Fowler to capture the eloquence of the music for the album’s artwork. I wish we were Pitchfork. I mean, I wish we were Pitchfork back last year or whatever when it could give something an ‘8.6’ and then that band would be immediately elevated to indie rock and roll stardom, I think the last people to do that were The Dodos or Fleet Foxes, which is maybe why I stopped trusting them so much (lol). But I wish we could be Pitchfork because then I could review this - this record by this band Eagle and Talon who I can barely find anything about even on the internet and rocket them to immediate indie rock and roll stardom because it really is that good.
But anyway what I heard when I was listening blind was this: I heard a band, I figured about four people, probs all girls for some reason- it wasn’t just the girl singer, it was the general Sleater-Kinneyery vibe that got me casting the most presumptions around about their gender. Guitar, bass, keyboard, drums? Probs. Coming out of some space in America. What I heard was also really really good. …only misstep being when they do that “brief silence then bonus track” thing on ‘We Were Figs’ (great title mind) at the end, which is never, ever acceptable. EVER.
“Eagle and Talon are an indie/art girl band made of wool. Their instrumentation includes guitar, drums, bass + casio. They currently live in LA.” There are two of them and they are called Kim and Alice. This is everything I know about Eagle and Talon. “Made of wool” is an amazing description of two people in a band though. NOW BUY THIS RECORD AND MAKE THEM HUGE. 86%

solo debut from singer/songwriter/guitarist Dan Auerbach—best known as half of The Black Keys—on February 10, 2009. While working on and touring in support of The Black Keys’ most recent album, Attack & Release, Auerbach also was writing songs that would become Keep It Hid. "This record is a mixture of things I like to listen to, psychedelia, soul music, country harmonies," says Auerbach. In February Auerbach will begin a national tour with performances in New York City, Boston, and Washington, DC. Opening acts for the tour will include Those Darlins and Hacienda—the latter also lending support as Auerbach’s backing band.
