The man behind The Sight Below (and, of course, the excellent Daydreaming album on Miasmah) returns with a gorgeous, limited edition 7" for new Chicago imprint, Immune. The Seattle-dwelling composer teams up with Dany Norbury for 'Hopes And Past Desires', a mesmerising, hauntingly beautiful piece of music comprised of exchanges between muffled electric piano chords and Norbury's otherworldly, reverberant strings. In terms of its constituent parts this is an incredibly simple piece of music, but there's magic in these grooves, and Irisarri's music makes a resoundingly haunting contribution to the realm of electronic/modern classical composition. Flip over and 'Watching As She Reels' is suggestive of a more upbeat take on Deaf Center's Pale Ravine, or perhaps a more minimal Library Tapes; there's a certain sepia-tinted quality to these sounds, and the whole exercise seems soaked in memory and a sense of nostalgia (for something or other) that always manages to avoid outright sentimentality. Absolutely sublime music - pick one up while you can. Boomkat

The latest project from Norman Cook, a.k.a Fatboy Slim, comes with a cute backstory about a group of friends dropping by a Brighton, England studio for ’70s-era jam sessions with Cook and producer Simon Thornton. The tapes had been sitting in a disused warehouse space and discovered as the building was to be knocked down. Though the timeline is fabricated, this mash of rock, soul, and rocksteady is distinctly collaborative.

This is genre bending music that was ahead of it s time and features collaborations with Iggy Pop, David Byrne, Jamie T, Martha Wainwright and Dizzee Rascal, amongst many others creating nothing short of a historic masterpiece.

... No sé que tal esté el disco, Cook no ha hecho nada remotamente interesante en más de una década; pero el video de "Toe Jam" con David Byrne es lo mejor que he visto en mucho tiempo.

merci!. es lo mismo que encontré yo, pero no me acaba de quedar clara la historia. en su página oficial no consta como disco. Por el texto parece que sea más spoken word que música. Voy a bajarmelo a ver que tal.

Proyecto de una bibliotecaria de los LA, Dee Dee de noise-pop, fuzzzzz, bonitas melodías vocales y un tono melancólico que atrapa bastante.
Tiene pinta de que en el 2009 se va a oir bastante su nombre, va a sacar cosas en el sello de Blank Dogs, en el sellazo HoZac etc y se esta moviendo bastante bien por internet.

aunque al ritmo que va este post este comentario pueda parecer desfasado dado el nº de páginas que han quedado atrás en mi humilde opinión este es un discarro de tomo y lomo, me gusta de primeras bastante más que Vampire Weekend, grazie, estoy encantadísimo.

Joder, esto lleva días filtrado y hasta hoy que me ha dado por escucharlo no he caído en lo que era (me hice con ello sólo por referencias):

El álbum, 'Petits Fours'; el grupo, GRAND DUCHY, o lo que es lo mismo, Black Francis con su mujer, Violet Clark haciendo de eventual Kim Deal (o casi). Y suena de putísima madre.

Tiene canciones a la altura de las del Frank Black más reciente: 'Fort Wayne', el single, es cojonudo, y 'The Long Song' es un hit como una catedral. También mola el casi-autoplagio del 'Gigantic' de Pixies en 'Break The Angels', con un bajo prácticamente calcado al principio. Eso sí, saltaros 'Ermesinde', con vocoder bochornoso de por medio.

A la venta en febrero. Ojalá lo presenten en el PS…
