Estoy dando un repasito a los discos de este 2008, y tengo la piel de gallina y los ojos llorosos escuchando el Litany of Echoes de James Blackshaw, Jöse igual estamos solos pero creo que lo voy a meter en mi top, se lo merece, ya desde su concierto en el centre de cultura me cautivó.

dejo esta lista si nadie lo ha hecho ya, me encanta la descripción de Emeralds (Vintage synths rediscovered, like lost alien technology, in the suburbs of Ohio and made to do the bidding of these three upstarts. Beautiful and visceral all at once)

1. África. Sería interesante saber cuántos grupos indies que citan África –así, a lo bestia– como influencia de verdad se comprometen con la música africana. Cuántos son los que, atraídos por una nueva pasión, y no una moda cosmética, han ido más allá de Fela Kuti, Youssou N’Dour o las recopilaciones del sello Strut o las retrospectivas del funk etíope. Se nos habla de ‘la creciente influencia de la música africana en el indie’, pero sólo hay turismo de ONG: la atracción de lo exótico, pero luego siempre de vuelta al club más cool de Brooklyn o Londres para hacer el pop de siempre con maquillaje. Otra cara de la colonización cultural –entiéndase colonización como expolio, sin apenas retribución– que tuvo el año pasado como precedente el “Kala” de M.I.A., un disco que trituraba el tercer mundo en beneficio del pop y no al revés (como “Arular”). Y, sin embargo, África es un concepto crucial de 2008, pero en sentido contrario: el continente negro está afectando de verdad a la música popular occidental cuando se permite el libre comercio, cuando se deja que las nuevas generaciones –las que disponen de tecnología– acudan con su música a dejar en evidencia la artrosis de Europa. Lo de Vampire Weekend es como el que se va de safari a Kenya y vuelve con una cornamenta para la chimenea. Lo de DJ Mujava –el maxi “Township funk”–, Buraka Som Sistema –el álbum “Black diamond”– o la labor de misionero de Maga Bo –“Archipielagoes”–, en cambio, es el comienzo de un más fructífero intercambio cultural que debe ir a más.

Las listas que han salido hasta ahora van a los dos extremos: o son completamente previsibles, poco originales, hechas en molde y sin ningún tipo de personalidad propia; o no conozco a ni un nombre y no puedo ni opinar.
