Factums - "Guilding the Lilies" C45 [Night People, 2010]

Factums have several excellent LP's that have come out over the last few years on labels like Sacred Bones, Siltbreeze etc. Considered to be a truly great live band by many fans, this mysterious trio live in different cities and pop up a couple times a year to deliver a new record of tight post punk weirdness, post industrial soundscapes, and mutant science lab explorations. Another killer offering here with a bit of new territory staked out by the band. Strange almost world music sound zones are explored in parallel to a dark synth punk aesthetic that fluctuates between druggie rhythm machine punkers and droney sound worlds. Really great stuff of course.

Dan Melchior is a bit of a legend with heaps of releases on a variety of labels he shouldn't need much introduction. This tape is no exception and a good addition to Melchior's excellent catalog of albums. This tape is all over the place a searing blend of hot lava psyched out garage stompers and dirgey ballads smeared around Dan's dry absurd lyrics and shouted vocals. It seems like Dan used Night-People's esoteric and eclectic nature to get even more weird on this one, as good as anything he's done which is a very high mark.

su myspace en aquel sentido homenaje tras la muerte de
chilton; pensé que jamás la editaría y se perdería en ese
limbo de unreleased songs de dan melchior.- achtung!

Nisei & Za! s'han tancat un cap de setmana d'estiu a la masia dels avis de l'Alfons per gravar música de forma conjunta. La bateria a la sala d'estar, l'amplificador de guitarra en una habitació, el de baix al sotaescala i l'ordinador a la cuina. El resultat és Chez Alphonse #1, amb una cara del disc dirigida per Nisei i l'altra per Za!.
Nisei presenta dues noves cançons amb la col·laboració de Za! als vents i amb una segona bateria, i Za! presenta un tema de 7 minuts amb la col·laboració de Nisei a les veus, percussions i efectes sonors.
Nisei & Za! presentaran Chez Alphonse #1 a Barcelona el 5 de gener de 2011 (Nit de Reis) a La [2] d'Apolo, dins el cicle Caprichos de Apolo.

Billed as James Ferraro's 'pop' album, the much anticipated Night Dolls With Hairspray stands as a massive evolutionary step forward for his twisted H-Pop vision. Night Dolls… features some of Ferraro's most fully-realised songs, all steeped in a hazy off-the-dial FM production feel. Ferraro uses pitch-shift vocals to transform himself into a pubescent adolescent with masochistic fantasies involving getting flogged in front of the class (“Leather High School”), obsessing over monster movies and turning himself into an answering machine for mutant Valley Girls with toxic make-up. This is one of the most twisted visions of teenage ever to make it to tape and the production is pretty striking, with chiming Sixties garage band guitars twisting into weird “paranoid” style metal guitar while warped tape work mutates snippets of symphonic national anthems and advertising jingles into a fluorescent mass for 20th century 'youth culture'. There's a heavy masochistic vibe to the whole thing that works as the perfect metaphor for Ferraro's alternately hypnotised and horrified attitude towards the pop narcotic and the songs have a similar appeal, alternately macabre and soaringly beautiful, breaking down into scrunchy tape-noise one minute and exploding into euphoric fireworks the next. It's almost impossible to work out just how Ferraro creates this fantastically complex and multi-layered vision of new pop futures but I'll take his teenage symphonies to Transsexuals over any of Brian Wilson ’s work. A major evocation of contemporary demon channels and a singular work that leaves virtually all of his H-Pop contemporaries looking like duds with bad taste in music. Comes with a colour insert and a free download. Highly recommended.

con un par de escuchas solo te puedo decir que si, no es tan increiblemente grande como lo de antes, pero es un buen disco. tengo que escucharlo mas.
seria la polla que viniesen al primavera, igual que liquid liquid el año pasado, pero viendo la poca repercusion que esta teniendo el disco (no he visto ninguna reseña en ninguna de las revistas mas populares, y lleva ya unos meses en las tiendas) lo veo bastante improbable.
