**Weyes Blood and The Dark Juices - The Outside Room LP [2011]

Limited edition of 480 copies Natalie Mering (Weyes Bluhd/Jackie-O Motherf*cker) presents a compelling debut solo LP of forlorn “narcotic drifter ballads” for NNF. ‘The Outside Room’ is like a haunting acid flashback to late ’60s Nico, only distorted by time and a drug-degraded memory. Undeniably her vocals bear a genuinely uncanny resemblance to the folk-pop heroine, a fact doubtless enforced by her musical morphosis from murky FX riddled experiments as Weyes Bluhd towards death-folk guitars, doom-laced drums and stark ambience. But it’s possibly the final mix and recording from The Shadow Ring’s Graham Lambkin which really brings her songs into bleakly spacious relief. However, it’s not like she’s totally abandoned her old sound, it’s just been rendered in a different, yet more sepulchral light and with more space to swoon and float between her ghostly words. Most notably, her anachronistic style really stands out from the warped, sideways futurism of NNF’s current crop, and feels far more like some exhumed classic. Includes 11 x 17″ lyric sheet and ace artwork by Mering herself. Highly Recommended!

"Air Museum" blurs the lines between acoustic and electronic music even more without sacrificing melody or the delicacy of their sound. It is an album of firsts. It was the first album that the acoustic instruments were not processed via a computer. Instead, the processing of the instrumentation (acoustic and electric guitar, cello, accordion, piano, bass etc.) was done using a variety of pedals, modular synths, and other analog techniques. While acoustic instruments were used extensively, the album manifests itself sonically as their most ''electronic'' record yet. Air Museum is also their first record that was made in a studio. Working in the studio expanded their possibilities, giving more room for experimentation. While much of the album was recorded in real time with minor editing, the band took the opportunity to utilize the studio as an instrument of sorts, investing a great amount of time in customizing their approach to post-production.

Todo Muere is no ordinary comp, as five out of the eight songs are unreleased rarities including b-sides, alternate takes and one demo from not only current but future roster artists. The first song by Moon Duo is an unreleased bonus track from the Mazes sessions, not featured on SBR-050. Number two, the TRUST track is a yet unreleased epic dark dance affair. Cult of Youth’s, “Eihwaz” was recorded during the Chris Coady S/T sessions and did not appear on the album solely due to lack of space on the vinyl, otherwise it would’ve been the single. Side B features an unreleased demo version of a song by Jesse Lortz (The Dutchess and the Duke), for his new Case Studies project due out early summer. Interspersed we have a couple slept-on hits and highlights from the recently released EPs by Pop.1280 (SBR-41), Gary War (SBR-042) and Amen Dunes (SBR-035). The closer is a once-in-lifetime acoustic track by Zola Jesus whose original version appeared on SBR-032, Stridulum. This version was recorded during a Part Time Punks radio session on KXLU.
