en mi opinión el sponsor privado es una puta mierda, porque que tu festival se llame 'FIB Heineken' o 'San Miguel Primavera Sound', y la liga de fútbol 'Liga BBVA' es una cosa muy extendida pero indigna. Es raro que no se haya visto ya un 'Vans Green Day' o un 'Los Planetas Alhambra'.

y también me parecen muy discutibles aquellos argumentos que, enarbolando la bandera de la promoción cultural, piden dinero público sin atender a razones creyendo que el capricho de juntar a queens of the stoneage y a jamie cullum en una misma noche no admite discusión.

a mí me molestaba bastante que en toda sevilla no hubiese ni una sola sala que no fuese o carísima de alquilar o estuviese en el quinto pino o tuviese una calidad infernal, y que en cambio se trajese a bruce springsteen, a madonna y a U2 los veranos. me molesta que ahora en valencia vea que no hay una buena red de bibliotecas y ver luego el presupuesto que se ha empleado en la ciudad de las ciencias. y me molesta que a un festival vayan 10.000 personas y luego venga un grupo en furgoneta desde alicante y metan a 25 personas en una sala y que no saquen ni para la gasolina. hasta me molesta verme comprando verdura en el mercadona porque con el curro no tengo tiempo de pillarla en otro lado.

me molesta todo esto, no por el gasto de dinero, sino por la mentalidad que estos planteamientos plantean. todo es publicidad, cifras, aglutinar reclamos, consumo. un amigo me decía hace poco que era complicado saber cuántos espectadores habían visto 'avatar' y que en cambio es facilísimo que google te diga cuántos millones ha recaudado.

en sevilla ni siquiera se estrenó 'los límites del control' a pesar de que una parte de la película se había grabado allí. por lo que sé, no recibió un pavo de subvención del ayuntamiento. en cambio, para promocionar -sólo promoción, no hablo ya del rodaje- 'noche y día' hasta cortaron el centro y cerraron los reales alcázares para que se juntasen allí los productores, el alcalde y tom cruise.

VOIVOD TO CURATE ROADBURN FESTIVAL 2012

Roadburn is elated to announce the curator for the 17th edition of the festival: Voivod. After the band's widely acclaimed and artistically inspiring performances at the 2011 festival, Voivod has agreed to curate our festival on Friday, April 13, 2012.

As curator, Voivod will personally select the bands that will play during their special event at Roadburn and perform a special headline show. We had a revelation this year: namely, that Voivod and Roadburn are not only kindred spirits musically and artistically, but also on the same wavelength in other ways, too. Voivod personifies the laidback Roadburn vibe. Respected by fans and bands that span the festival's sonic spectrum, Voivod is the ideal pick as Roadburn's fifth curator. The band will carry on a tradition that began in 2008 with David Tibet, followed by Neurosis in 2009, Triptykon's Tom Gabriel Warrior in 2010 and Sunn 0))) aka Greg Anderson and Stephen O'Malley at this year's festival. After Voivod agreed to curate the Friday, we could not resist asking them to stay for a second show. It's on!

The band will appear on Saturday, April 14, 2012, too.

We are overjoyed to join forces with Voivod for the upcoming Roadburn festival. The band's take on thrash metal, hardcore, prog rock, avant-garde and punk has been honed to perfection for almost three decades. Captured in various stages and formations on more than 13 albums, including the legendary Killing Technology, Dimension Hatröss and Nothingface trilogy, the chilling Phobos and 2003's high energy self-titled release, what began as a desire to do their own thing is now recognized as groundbreaking. The band has strongly influenced scores of musicians practicing the kind of sonic alchemy that defies simple tags like "heavy metal" or "psychedelic."

We are truly looking forward to the new ideas and visions that Voivod will bring to the festival next year. If asked to sum up Roadburn in one word, "progressive" would be a fitting choice. Evolution is a big part of this.

The festival is a tribute to the open-mindedness of its bands, curators and audience. The joy comes from expanding musical horizons and looking at familiar territory from new angles. We will definitely be in for some artistic surprises with the always intrepid Voivod as our curator. We are excited to find out what they have in store for us!

Roadburn Festival 2012, including Voivod's special event, will run for four days from Thursday, April 12 to Sunday, April 15 (the traditional Afterburner) at the 013 venue in Tilburg, Holland.

Pre-sales will start Saturday, November 26th, 2011.

KILLING JOKE CONFIRMED FOR VOIVOD'S AU-DELÀ RÉEL AT ROADBURN 2012;

MICHAEL GIRA TO PLAY ACOUSTIC SOLO PERFORMANCE

Voivod and Roadburn are equally thrilled to announce that seminal post-punk pioneers Killing Joke will perform at Roadburn 2012 on Thursday, April 12th as part of the newly expanded Au-delà du Réel event.

Killing Joke was at the top of Voivod's wish list as soon as they accepted the curator invitation. Unfortunately, Jaz Coleman (vocals, keyboards and arrangements), Geordie Walker (guitar), Youth (bass) and Paul Ferguson (drums) could not make it to Tilburg on Friday, April 13th due to prior commitments. However, in the spirit of Roadburn and true to the Outer Limits theme, it was quickly decided to expand Au-delà du Réel and turn Voivod's dream of sharing a stage with Killing Joke into reality.

Please note that Voivod's second show originally scheduled for Saturday, April 14th has been moved to Thursday, April 12th as part of the specially extended Au-delà du Réel. The main stage line-up for Thursday, April 12th (in alphabetical, not official running order): Agalloch, d.USK/diSEMBOWELMENT, Killing Joke, OM, Ulver and Voivod.

While Swans intensely heavy headliner performance at this year's Roadburn is still resonating in our collective minds, we're elated to announce the return of Michael Gira for an acoustic solo performance on Thursday, April 14th at the Midi Theatre in Tilburg, Holland.
